RACE 1 – KILIKANOON / SKILLOGALEE WINES DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE – 1700 metres

SLEEK FIGHTER (T. Creek) raced ungenerously for a short distance and threw its head in the air in the vicinity of the 1400 metres.

In the vicinity of the 300 metres ROSZAMA (J. Potter) was held up for a short distance when caught behind the tiring TRUCE D’ETOILE (B. Vale).

RACE 2 – BRIAN BARRY WINES / SEVENHILL CELLARS / SABIS C, G. & E. MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres

BUSIRIS (Ms. M. Henderson) jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin, and shortly after the start shifted in abruptly towards the running rail, dislodging that rider. Mr. R. Hannigan, Trainer of BUSIRIS, was advised the gelding was now suspended for a period until it could prove in an Official Barrier Trial that it is tractable in a field. Ms. Henderson was uninjured.

TOLSINE (C. Buchiw) raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages of the event.

In the vicinity of the 100 metres RIVER CHI (C. Lindop) shifted out under pressure, making contact with MADISON GARDENS (B. Claridge), resulting in both geldings becoming unbalanced.

RACE 3 – JEANNERET / STRINGY BRAE WINES CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1100 metres

HORSLEY ROAD (C. Lindop) was slow to begin.

In the vicinity of the 600 metres BUICK (A. Stead) shifted in when insufficiently clear of ROYAL JEUNE (B. Claridge), resulting in that mare being forced to check to avoid the heels of BUICK, and lose some ground. A. Stead was found guilty of a charge of Careless Riding under ARR 137(a) and suspended from riding in races to commence at midnight on the 27th October 2002 and to expire at midnight on the 2nd November 2002. A period of three meetings.

Racing to the 500 metres MARSCAY EARL (D. Tootell) shifted in slightly, resulting in NOONETRON BELLE (B. Grimston) being tightened for room and having to be steadied. While being steadied that mare got her head up and raced ungenerously for a short distance and shifted in, making contact with BUICK (A. Stead).

HORSLEY ROAD (C. Lindop) was eased out of the event over the concluding 300 metres. HORSLEY ROAD underwent a Veterinary examination subsequent to the event and as a result that gelding’s Trainer, Mr. W. Bencic, who advised the Stewards the gelding had been previously treated for a respiratory infection, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required to be lodged prior to accepting for any future event. Mr. Bencic was also advised the results of a blood test are to be forwarded to the Veterinary Surgeon at Thoroughbred Racing SA.

A. Stead, rider of BUICK, accidentally dropped his whip just prior to the winning post. A. Stead was warned that a repetition would lead to a penalty being imposed.

RACE 4 – ELDREDGE / PAULETT WINES DISTANCE CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1800 metres

BILLY’S CHOICE (C. Buchiw) was slow to begin.

R. Faehr, rider of DANGER CHARGER, was fined $200 under ARR 137A (2a) when that rider struck his mount with the whip in the vicinity of the head.

RACE 5 – KNAPPSTEIN WINES CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1200 metres

Inside the 600 metres EDVOKIA (C. Lindop), which was racing tight on the inside of ON THE STEEL (S. Price), became unbalanced for a short distance.

Racing to the 200 metres SHORTAZ (N. Tomizawa) had to be eased for a short distance when caught behind the weakening HEARTEN’S MAGIC (B. Claridge).

RACE 6 – JIM BARRY WINES FLYING HANDICAP – 1100 metres

Correct Weight for this event was delayed to allow J. Potter, rider of STRETTA 3rd Placegetter, to view the official head-on film over the concluding 150 metres of the race. After doing so, in conjunction with Stewards, J. Potter lodged an objection against IRISH JANTEE (C. Lindop) the winner and also SIR ARCHER (B. Vale) 2nd Placegetter, for alleged interference in the vicinity of the 150 metres. After taking evidence from all parties, viewing the official films and on the observations of the Stewards, J. Potter’s objections were dismissed.

In the vicinity of the 600 metres GRUMANS (S. Price) shifted out slightly, resulting in STRETTA (J. Potter) being inconvenienced.

Racing inside the 200 metres STRETTA (J. Potter), which had taken a run between SIR ARCHER (B. Vale) and IRISH JANTEE (C. Lindop), became tightened and eventually forced to check his mount due to IRISH JANTEE shifting out slightly; at the same time SIR ARCHER, which showed a tendency to lay in slightly, shifted in abruptly. Stewards took no action as they believed no one rider was responsible for the incident. Shortly after STRETTA shifted ground to the inside of IRISH JANTEE, resulting in PADARICO (J. Maund) shifting in and away from STRETTA and in consequence PARALINA (C. Buchiw), which was weakening and racing inside of PADARICO, was inconvenienced.

RACE 7 – CLARE VALLEY WINEMAKERS CUP (CLASS 6 HANDICAP) – 1700 metres

MR. SPIELBERG (NZ), which was restless in the gates, prior to the start, reared and became cast in the gates. As a result MR. SPIELBERG (NZ) and DAPPERSTAN, in an adjoining stall, underwent Veterinary examinations prior to the start, which revealed both geldings were fit to take their place.

DAPPERSTAN (C. Bryant) jumped away awkwardly.

NASTIVE EDITION (B. Claridge) and TEHRIER (J. Potter) were slow to begin.

RACE 8 – PHOENIX ESTATE / – 1100 metres

HILLS OF FIRE was a late withdrawal by Stewards at 11.20 a.m., acting on Veterinary advice. Ms. R. Williams, Trainer of HILLS OF FIRE, was advised she would be required to attend an inquiry at a date to be fixed, in relation to the incorrect manner in which the mare was withdrawn.

CHASING DESTINY was a late withdrawal by Stewards at 11.05 a.m., when the filly sustained injuries in the float en route to the racecourse and was not fit to race.

On jumping away LOTTIE (J. Maund) and BALANNE (M. Hoppo) bumped together.

In the vicinity of the 600 metres HAPPEN CHANCE (J. O’Connor) began to race ungenerously and became unbalanced for a short distance.

In the vicinity of the 500 metres MAGIC MINNIE (R. Faehr) shifted in, resulting in MURRAY MAGPIE (B. Vale) being tightened and having to be eased.
