Promising Adelaide Youngster Faces Surgery

Promising young Adelaide three-year-old Kelmark will undergo surgery and then be immediately spelled after is was revealed he'd broken down after his weekend run.

The gelding's trainer Stuart Gower reported to Adelaide stewards late yesterday that Kelmark would need to be operated on after a veterinary examination revealed a bone chip in the off fore knee.

Kelmark started the favourite in Saturday's Haigh's Chocolates Handicap at Morphettville and finished last behind the promising filly We Will Rock You.

Before Saturday the son of Keltrice was an impressive last start winner at Cheltenham, and two runs earlier he was a strong winner at Mildura.

So far from just six starts the gelding has netted his connections $32,780.
