RACE 1 – DAWSON LOKAN HURDLE - 2950 metres

NASTIVE EDITION (G. Young) was slow to jump.

LOVE OF BRANDY (N. Dunn) jumped the fence in the vicinity of the 500 metres awkwardly.

Inside the 400 metres J. Julian, rider of OLD DUNCAN, accidentally dropped his whip. J. Julian was advised that similar occurrences of carelessness would result in a penalty being imposed.

TOP KALA suffered a bi-lateral bleeding attack during the event. Mr. J. A. O’Connor, Trainer of TOP KALA, was advised the gelding was now suspended from racing for a period of three months in accordance with ARR 53A.

Subsequent to this event Stewards upgraded the track rating to GOOD.

RACE 2 – LAKEWOOD STUD DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE – 2050 metres

The start of this race was delayed several minutes owing to BOWOOD ROAD (W. Kerford), which became restless and got its head under the gate, undergoing a Veterinary examination. BOWOOD ROAD was ruled fit to start.

FULL SPEC (J. Holder), which got down in the barriers, was withdrawn by Stewards, acting on Veterinary advice at 1.03 p.m. Mr. G. Lesnikowski, Trainer of FULL SPEC, was advised the gelding would be required to perform satisfactorily in an Official Trial prior to accepting for a future event.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on FULL SPEC be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN: 20 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE 16 cents in the dollar.
SP bets are subject to the deductions.

THE BILL KEEPER (H. McKechnie), which was in an adjoining stall to FULL SPEC, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and ruled fit to start.

BARONESS OF BAMBRA (M. McDonald) was slow to jump.

After passing the winning post, on the first occasion, the saddle on BOWOOD ROAD (W. Kerford) shifted forward. W. Kerford explained that inside the 1300 metre, due to BOWOOD ROAD being reluctant to settle and his own predicament, he was obliged to allow his mount to stride forward.

Near the 800 metres RANGERINE (B. Claridge) brushed the running rail.

Inside the 500 metres THE BILL KEEPER (H. McKechnie), which was inclined to be reluctant to hold its position, was inconvenienced by QUITE EASY (NZ) (N. Tomizawa), which rolled in.

Over the concluding stages CARRAJA (P. Marks) was inclined to lay in under pressure. P. Marks reported that his saddle had rolled to the off side in the straight. CARRAJA was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, who reported the gelding was sore in the near side wither.

RACE 3 – FIELDERS STEEL ROOFING / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1350 metres

SAPPHIRE FLASH (NZ), which had been involved in a minor floating incident, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon on arrival on course and ruled fit to start.

On arrival at the barriers SAPPHIRE FLASH (NZ) was further examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who felt the filly was stilted in its action and therefore ruled it unfit to start. Acting on that advice SAPPHIRE FLASH (NZ) was withdrawn by Stewards at 1.34 p.m.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on SAPPHIRE FLASH (NZ) be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN: 31 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE: 21 cents in the dollar.

ACT SURE (M. Hoppo) and SLEEK FIGHTER (D. Carney) were slow to jump.

SEPARATOR (S. Price) was inclined to race greenly in the early stages of the race.

OSH (J. Maund) over-raced in the early stages of the event.

In the vicinity of the 800 metres MOON ROCK (C. Lindop) was obliged to steady off the heels of SEPARATOR (S. Price), which shifted in.

Inside the 600 metres SKYCOUP (J. Bowditch) was forced to check when tightened by BLACKJACK (T. Creek), as that gelding had been taken in by LADY ASHLYN (B. Vale), which was inclined to shift about. B. Vale was reprimanded and advised in future to take greater care when shifting ground.

Near the 400 metres ACT SURE (M. Hoppo) was held up momentarily and obliged to steady off the heels of POWER TO RULE (Darren Holland), which shifted in.

Shortly after entering the straight B. Vale, rider of LADY ASHLYN, dropped his whip. B. Vale was fined $50 in accordance with ARR 137(a).

Correct Weight for this event was delayed to allow J Bowditch, rider of SKYCOUP, to view the Official footage in the vicinity of the 700 metres.

RACE 4 – WEST END CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1200 metres

COZARZY (H. McKechnie) was slow to jump.

BOLD REEF (J. Lyon) jumped away awkwardly.

On jumping away FLIRT WITH DANGER (C. Bryant) was hampered by DEVITO (Darren Holland), which shifted out abruptly.

BOLD REEF (J. Lyon), which had been inclined to lay out throughout the event, shifted out on making the turn into the straight and continued to lay out under pressure. BOLD REEF was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, who reported the gelding was sore in the off side neck.

At the entrance to the straight FLIRT WITH DANGER (C. Bryant) got its head up, became ungenerous and shifted out.

RACE 5 – THE SMITH FAMILY CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1350 metres

PEKOE (J. Lyon) and AWAY WITH FAIRIES (J. Holder) were slow to jump.

Inside the 300 metres SO SAY ALL OF US (J. Maund) was held up for some distance prior to being able to steady off the heels of KAMWAY (B. Claridge), which had commenced to weaken.

AWAY WITH FAIRIES was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, who reported the mare was sore in the lower back.

RACE 6 – FINNISS LODGE STRATHALBYN CUP – 2050 metres

CLARENDON’S CURSE (C. Bryant) was slow to jump.

RUSTY DUSTY GREY (C. Buchiw) jumped away awkwardly.

VANDECLARE (C. Lindop) got its head up and raced fiercely in the middle stages, and in the vicinity of the 800 metres was obliged to steady off the heels of DHOLIMA’S DAUGHTER (M. Hoppo).

At the entrance to the straight VANDECLARE (C. Lindop) shifted out and brushed MANILOW (D. Carney).

C. Lindop, rider of VANDECLARE, reported the mare had hung out from near the 800 metres. VANDECLARE suffered a puncture wound to the off hind cannon during the race, which required First Aid. VANDECLARE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, who reported no other visible abnormalities.

C. Bryant, rider of CLARENDON’S CURSE, was questioned regarding his riding of the gelding approximately 40 metres from the finish. C. Bryant was found guilty of a charge under ARR 137 (c), in that he had committed a celebratory gesture prior to the finish and fined $200.

FRENZEL RHOMB (J. Bowditch), which had performed poorly, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding to be very sore in the lower back.

RACE 7 – YALUMBA HANDICAP – 1350 metres

SCENICY (B. Claridge) was inclined to over-race in the early and middle stages of the race.

Inside the 200 metres YOU’RE JOKING (H. McKechnie) shifted out abruptly under pressure and contacted ZED FILES (T. Creek) on two occasions.

RACE 8 – O’CONNOR HARVESTING CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1600 metres

The start of this event was delayed to permit REKORB to have its near fore plate replaced.

COLORADO EXTREME (C. Buchiw) was slow to jump.

On jumping away SALEM (J. Holder) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, tightening EXCLAIMER (B. Vale) onto TEMPESTO (B. Claridge), resulting in both runners being inconvenienced.

Near the 100 metres TEMPESTO (B. Claridge) shifted in under riding and inconvenienced COLORADO EXTREME (C. Buchiw).
