RACE 1 – ELDERS REAL ESTATE / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE 3-Y-O & UP - 1200 metres

THE CON LADY was a late withdrawal at 9 a.m. due to a float breakdown.

TOLSINE (J. Potter) jumped away very awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. The gelding raced extremely greenly in the early and middle stages of the race.

RACE 2 – ELDERS MERCHANDISE CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1600 metres

GOLD RACER (NZ) was a late withdrawal at 8 a.m. after confirmed advice from the gelding’s Trainer, Mr. D. Meaney, that the gelding was sore.

DAMOCLES (J. Potter) jumped away awkwardly, making contact with the outside gate.

Shortly after the start DONTAINE (A. Stead), which began awkwardly, was inconvenienced due to WINESONG (J. Lyon) shifting out onto DONTAINE, which in turn shifted out onto EMMATINE (D. Monaghan), resulting in that mare being slightly inconvenienced.

Correct Weight for this event was delayed to allow D. Monaghan, rider of EMMATINE the 3rd Placegetter, to view the official head-on video over the concluding 100 metres of the race. After doing so, in conjunction with Stewards, D. Monaghan declined to proceed with an objection and Correct Weight was notified.

RACE 3 – ELDERS RURAL FINANCE CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1400 metres

BRIGHT ‘N’ EARLY (M. Neilson) jumped away awkwardly, making heavy contact with the outside gate. A subsequent Veterinary examination of BRIGHT ‘N’ EARLY revealed the gelding had an elevated heart rate and was exhibiting signs of the onset of a virus.

RACE 4 – ELDERS LIVESTOCK CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1200 metres

No report.

RACE 5 – ELDERS INSURANCE FLYING HANDICAP – 1200 metres

Veterinary examinations of KING’S CHOICE and TEE OFF TIME, prior to the event, revealed the geldings were fit to take their place in the field.

Shortly after the start PUISSANT KING (D. Monaghan) shifted out slightly, taking CANADIAN COMET (J. Burgess) out onto the heels of PARALINA (J. Potter), resulting in CANADIAN COMET being inconvenienced.

Racing inside the 1100 metres ONYX RIVER (C. Bryant) shifted in slightly onto RAINBOW THAI (B. Vale); at the same time as WHISTLING LASS (B. Grimston) shifted out, resulting in RAINBOW THAI being momentarily tightened and brushing together for a short distance, with ONYX RIVER. B. Grimston was advised of his obligations when shifting ground.

RACE 6 – ELDERS RURAL BANK CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1100 metres

ZACAZAR jumped away awkwardly, resulting in its rider, D. Monaghan, becoming unbalanced.

Upon jumping away LORD JAPATO (NZ) (B. Claridge) shifted in slightly; at the same time as RED TRICK (W. Kerford) shifted out abruptly, resulting in COZARVY (B. Grimston), which was racing between LORD JAPATO (NZ) and RED TRICK, being severely hampered and losing its position.

In the early stages of the race MONSOON BABY (R. Faehr) raced ungenerously, throwing its head in the air.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary examination of MISS COALPEPPER revealed the mare had sustained a fracture to its off fore sesamoid. Mr. L. Murray, Trainer of MISS COALPEPPER, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required to be lodged prior to the mare accepting for any future event. Mr. Murray advised Stewards that it was his intention that the mare would now be retired.
