Trainer Mr. R. Angelo and Jockey Darren Holland were both questioned regarding the apparent poor performance of UNDERCHARGE GIRL in today’s event. Darren Holland informed the Stewards that UNDERCHARGE GIRL raced closer to the lead in today’s event, as the pace was not as solid today as it was in the mare’s last start, when she had won the race over 1200 metres. Darren Holland further stated that UNDERCHARGE GIRL had failed to respond to his riding from the 400 metres and that he had stopped riding the mare from the 200 metres, as he was not satisfied with her action. Trainer Mr. R. Angelo reported that he was very disappointed with the run of UNDERCHARGE GIRL, as the mare had worked well leading into the race, and he had advised the connections to substantially support her today. The only explanation Mr. Angelo had for the poor run was that he believed UNDERCHARGE GIRL may have swallowed her tongue during the running of the race, as she had returned breathing very heavily. He further advised that before UNDERCHARGE GIRL’S next start he would experiment with different bits and may race her with a change of gear. A Veterinary examination of UNDERCHARGE GIRL revealed no visible abnormalities.
