RACE 1 – SCOTT’S GROUP OF COMPANIES / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE (1st Division) – 1100 metres

FULL GLOW (C. Lindop) jumped away awkwardly.

RACE 2 –CUB / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE (2nd Division) – 1100 metres

FULL ON RED, which raced the previous day, underwent a Veterinary examination and was declared fit.

FABIAN BAY (C. Lindop) and LAKE PLACID (S. Harrison) raced greenly in the early stages of the event.

Racing to the 600 metres BON TRUCE (P. Marks) shifted out, resulting in FABIAN BAY (C. Lindop) being taken out and having to ease to avoid the heels of CARD STAR (G. Hoobin). P. Marks was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

SPIRIT WIND (B. Neville) commenced to hang out approaching the 800 metres and racing to the 400 metres the gelding hung out and as a result B. Neville was unable to ride SPIRIT WIND out in his normal manner. Mr. S. Turner, Trainer of SPIRIT WIND, was advised that a repetition of the gelding’s racing behaviour could lead to action being taken against it.

RACE 3 – PETER NORMAN DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE – 1700 metres

TKACHEV underwent a Veterinary examination at the barrier and was declared fit.

GOLDEN TAOS (D. Missen) jumped out at the start and bumped TKACHEV (D. Mittiga), which shifted out and hampered SPECTACULAR RUN (NZ) (D. Yendall).

Racing to the 1000 metres CADILLAC MISS (NZ) (B. Blacker) had to ease to avoid the heels of GOLDEN TAOS (D. Missen), when that mare shifted in. As a result, CADILLAC MISS (NZ) shifted out and raced wide throughout. D. Missen was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

Racing to the 600 metres SPIDER HENRY (C. Lindop) had to be eased to avoid the heels of NON NEGOTIABLE (S. Harrison), and as a result SPIDER HENRY became unbalanced for a short distance.

RACE 3 – PETER NORMAN DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE – 1700 metres

Correct Weight was delayed to permit C. Puls, rider of WHY RITA, to view the Official head-on film of the race.

Racing to the 200 metres GOLDEN TAOS (D. MIssen) shifted in and brushed RULE BY CHARM (NZ) (G. O’Loughlin), which shifted in, causing WHY RITA (C. Puls) to be eased, and in consequence avoid the heels of BOOMCHAIN (M. Hagley), which shifted out. D. Missen and M. Hagley were advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

NON NEGOTIABLE underwent a Veterinary examination subsequent to the race, which revealed no visible abnormalities.

RACE 4 – NOEL BARR TOYOTA / SABIS F & M CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1300 metres

RACE 5 – GALPINS ACCOUNTANTS & BUSINESS ADVISORS DISTANCE CLASS 2 HANDICIAP – 1700 metres

A. Darmanin was severely reprimanded for arriving late on course and advised a repetition could lead to action being taken against him.

Racing to the 200 metres SKAGNETTI (C. Lindop) rolled in and brushed INDIGO ISLE (K. Post) and as a result that gelding was obliged to change course and shift inwards. In consequence INDIGO ISLE hampered PANNING FOR GOLD (S. Wyatt).

Mr. R.V.J. Nicholson, Trainer for PATANGAR, was asked if he could offer any explanation into the gelding’s apparent improved performance today as against its previous start at Penola. Mr. Nicholson stated that he was of the opinion that PATANGAR’S first up start at Penola on the 8th of December was quite a good run; the gelding being beaten eight lengths and with the improved fitness and suited by the longer distance had contributed to the gelding’s improved form.

RACE 6 – SNEATHS TRANSPORT HANDICAP – 1600 metres

Racing to the 900 metres PERSIAN STING (D. Yendall) brushed the running rail.

K. Post, rider of SPIRIT OF DEMUS, was severely reprimanded for returning to Scale over the weight at which he had weighed out at and advised that a repetition could lead to action being taken against him.

RACE 7 – GRAHAM SAVAGE CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1400 metres

POETIC WALK (C. Puls) was slow to begin.

RACE 8 – STEVE HENWOOD MAIDEN PLATE – 1300 metres

ECHO ETOILE (G. O’Loughlin) jumped away awkwardly.

Racing to the 400 metres SIMBI KALA (K. Walters) had to be eased to avoid the heels of ZIGDAN (C. Lindop).
