RACE 1 – BONNETT’S SADDLERY HANDICAP 3036 metres
ASTRO GUARDIA (K Wynne) and COMELY KING (G Preston) both jumped away awkwardly.
CLASSIC COUP (NZ) (S Pateman) jumped the hurdle in the vicinity of the 200 metres on the first occasion awkwardly.
LOVE OF BRANDY (J Julian) struck the hurdle near the 1600 metres.
CLASSIC COUP (NZ) (S Pateman) struck the hurdle near the 300 metres.
SUPER COBRA (NZ) (B Scott) attempted to run off at the last hurdle.
ASTRO GUARDIA (K Wynne) struck the hurdle near the 200 metres and dislodged K Wynne. ASTRO GUARDIA was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon following the race and found to have an abrasion to its off knee.
LOVE OF BRANDY was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and found to have a haematoma above the off knee, which required first aid.
K Wynne the rider of ASTRO GUARDIA was examined by the Club’s Doctor who reported he had sustained a bruised left foot.
RACE 2 – BLACKWELL FUNERALS HANDICAP 1366 metres
Near the 1100 metres STAR JOE (NZ) (N Tomizawa) was obliged to steady off the heels of PEPPI THE PUG (D Tootell), which shifted in.
Approaching the finish PEPPI THE PUG (D Tootell) was forced to ease when tightened by JEZARICH (S Price), which shifted in.
RACE 3 – POPE PACKAGING HANDICAP 1817 metres
PURA SEDA (J Bowditch) jumped away awkwardly.
ETERNAL DESIRE (C Bryant) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out on to GOLD EMERALD (A Stead), which shifted away abruptly.
Approaching the 200 metres ENTICE (S Price) was disappointed in attempting a run inside ETERNAL DESIRE (C Bryant), which shifted in and PURA SEDA (J Bowditch) which rolled out after being inclined to lay out.
Inside the 200 metres GOLD EMERALD (A Stead) was inclined to get its head up and raced greenly.
Approaching the finish GOLD EMERALD (A Stead) shifted in abruptly and severely hampered CHERRY BAY (N Tomizawa). A Stead was advised to take greater care when shifting ground.
C Bryant the rider of ETERNAL DESIRE reported that filly was inclined to lay out throughout the race.
TRACERLINE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding had suffered a sprained off-fore flexor tendon during the event. Mr P Seater the trainer of TRACERLINE was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness would be required before the filly is accepted for a future event.
GOLD EMERALD suffered a lesion to the near hind leg during the race.
RACE 4 – LIZ DAVENPORT HANDICAP 1313 metres
CROSS ME NOT (B Claridge) was slow to jump.
Approaching the 1300 metres MISS VODKA (M Neilson) shifted in on to CARISSA ANN (M Gatt) taking that mare in on to BELIKELY (J Maund), which was forced to check. Shortly after MISS VODKA continued to shift in taking CARISSA ANN in on to NAVARAC (C Bryant), which was forced to check. M Neilson was found guilty of a charge of Careless Riding under ARR 137 (a) and was suspended from riding for a period to commence at midnight on Thursday 10 October and to expire at midnight on Thursday 24 October, a period of seven meetings. In accessing this penalty Stewards took in to consideration that this was the fifth occasion that M Neilson had been charged with careless riding in the previous ten months.
Near the 1000 metres MISS VODKA (M Neilson) was obliged to steady away from the heels of INDECORUM (S Price), which shifted in.
Inside the 1000 metres BURZAM (J Bowditch), which had commenced to race keenly was obliged to steady off the heels of JEUNE ROYALE (C Lever), which rolled in.
Near the 600 metres CARISSA ANN (M Gatt) shifted out in attempting to improve and made contact with JEUNE ROYALE (C Lever) on a number of occasions.
Shortly after entering the straight INDECORUM (S Price) was obliged to steady off the heels of MISS VODKA (M Neilson), which shifted in.
CARISSA ANN lost its near hind plate and sprung its near fore plate during the running of the race.
RACE 5 – TERRIFIC@MANNER LODGE HANDICAP 1822 metres
PETITE ETOILE (W Kerford) was slow to jump.
SIMPLY MAGICAL (J Bowditch) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in inconveniencing VICHENO (J Maund) and KURTRAY (N Tomizawa).
Inside the 1500 metres GEM TRADER (S Price), which was inclined shift in and away from DAPPERSTAN (C Bryant) on its outside, shifted in tightening SIMPLY MAGICAL (J Bowditch) on to WILLIAM OF OZ (D Tootell), which was forced to check and lose its position.
Approaching the 400 metres SIMPLY MAGICAL (J Bowditch) and LOCHI (M Gatt) brushed.
Inside the 200 metres KURTRAY (N Tomizawa) shifted out on to SIMPLY MAGICAL (J Bowditch), which was forced to check. N Tomizawa was found guilty of a charge of Careless Riding under ARR 137 (a) and was suspended from riding for a period to commence at midnight on Thursday 10 October and to expire at midnight on Wednesday 16 October, a period of three meetings.
SIMPLY MAGICAL was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding had sustained a wound to the upper suspensory ligament of the off foreleg, which required first aid.
RACE 6 – HILL SMITH STAKES 1822 metres
CAIUS (C Bryant) jumped away awkwardly.
In the vicinity of the 1500 metres, LA SUPREME (S Price) shifted in onto ANACARDE (J Holder) taking that filly in on to MOUNT KOSCIUSKO (NZ) (C Lever) tightening that gelding on to WISTTRAKOWE (M Gatt) resulting in MOUNT KOSCIUSKO (NZ) being hampered and WISTTRAKOWE becoming unbalanced.
Near the 1400 metres WE WILL ROCK YOU (J Bowditch) which was inclined to lay in shifted in on to LIFELONG DREAM (J Maund) resulting in that filly shifting in hampering MOUNT KOSCIUSKO (NZ). Shortly after LIFELONG DREAM (J Maund) got its head up and raced ungenerously.
WISTTRAKOWE (M Gatt) was inclined to get its head up and raced ungenerously in the middle stages of the event.
Approaching the 1100 metres LIFELONG DREAM (J Maund), which had commenced to race keenly, got its head up whilst being restrained off the heels of LA SUPREME (S Price).
J Holder the rider of ANACARDE was cautioned against permitting his mounts to shift in when gesturing after the line.
RACE 7 – IGT MEGABUCKS HANDICAP 1463 metres
BROTHER’S JEST (S Price) stood in the gates and missed the start by several lengths.
On jumping away LEMONADE PARADE (D Tootell) shifted out and tightened NEWTOWN JET (USA) (C Lever).
Shortly afterwards, NEWTOWN JET (USA) (C Lever) was further hampered as a result of AL ZIMER (J Maund) shifting in.
LEMONADE PARADE (D Tootell) was inclined to race ungenerously and lay out in the middle stages of the race.
Near the 1000 metres AL ZIMER (J Maund), which had commenced to race keenly got its head up whilst being restrained off the heels of LEMONADE PARADE (D Tootell) and shifted in, tightening NEWTOWN JET (USA) (C Lever) which became unbalanced. In being restrained, AL ZIMER shifted out and contacted CATHEDRAL END (J Bowditch).
Approaching the 800 metres AL ZIMER (J Maund), which continued to race ungenerously, was obliged to steady off the heels of CRASHER MCCAULEY (J Holder).
Near the 300 metres, in attempting a tight run, LEMONADE PARADE (D Tootell) shifted out on to PRINCE RAJA (W Kerford), which shifted away and inconvenienced LAND RULE (M Gatt)
CRASHER MCCAULEY was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and showed symptoms of an elevated heart rate and a slower than normal recovery.
RACE 8 – YALLAMBEE STUD HANDICAP 1263 metres
SOGNARE (D Carney) was slow to jump.
Approaching the 1100 metres SCENARAJA (J Bowditch) shifted in and tightened YOU LITTLE BEAUT (S Price) on to KEYMARK (N Tomizawa) and shortly after KEYMARK lost its position.
In the vicinity of the 1100 metres BAGOTRIX (M Gatt) shifted in on to SCENARAJA (J Bowditch) taking that gelding in on to YOU LITTLE BEAUT (S Price), which was obliged to check and struck the running rail. In consequence, KEYMARK (N Tomizawa) was severely hampered. M Gatt was found guilty of a charge of Careless Riding under ARR 137(a) and suspended for a period to commence at midnight on 7 October and to expire at midnight on 19 October, a period of seven meetings.
Near the 200 metres YOU LITTLE BEAUT (S Price) shifted out and brushed SCENARAJA (J Bowditch).
Over the concluding stages SCENARAJA (J Bowditch) and YOU LITTLE BEAUT (S Price) brushed on a number of occasions.
Correct weight for this event was delayed owing to S Price the rider of the second placegetter YOU LITTLE BEAUT and N Tomizawa the rider of the fifth placegetter KEYMARK requesting to view the official footage in the vicinity of the 1100 metres. After doing so both riders lodged an objection against BAGATRIX (M Gatt) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference in the vicinity of the 1100 metres. After hearing submissions from all parties, viewing the official footage and acting on their own observations Stewards dismissed both objections as they were not convinced that BAGATRIX had been the sole contributor to all the interference which occurred at this point of the event.
