Saturday's Morphettville Parks Races Report

After a string of minor placings of late preceded the win of the Mark Kavanagh prepared Dean Yendall ridden Tropic Thunder when the gelding broke through for its first listed win in the 1000 metre Redelva Stakes on the Parks track at Morphettville on Saturday.

Being unwanted by punters at $41 when the starter released the field Tropic Thunder, a More Than Ready three year old from Miss Shakira, a snippets mare, came from fourth to record a three quarters of a length victory over Kulgrinda $3.50 for Caulfield trainer Peter Moody and lady rider Linda Meech.

The $3 favourite Obsidian Dragon was another half neck away third for David Balfour and Todd Panell.

Speaking for his father Mark, Sam Kavanagh said that Tropic Thunder will appreciate the roomier big track when he has his next start in the 1200 metre Group 2 Yallambee Classic for three year olds on Adelaide Cup Day.

Stabled at Richard Jolly’s the Lee Freedman trained Simon Price ridden Ani’tnofallenstar was the one and a quarter length winner of the listed 1400 metre H.C. Nitschke Stakes.

From Ain’t Seen Nothin’ a Nothin’ Lieca Dane matron and fathered by Starcraft Ain’tnofallenstar $4.40 came with a late run to  beat the Michael Hickmott trained Mark Pegus steered Always Discreet $9. 

Starting at $20 Addiction To Rock was a farther two and a half lengths away filling the minor placing for Mark Minervini and Adrian Patterson.

Trainer Mark Minervini and rider Damien Robinson got the day off to a good start when the Charge Forward two year old gelding Universal Bolt was the one and a quarter length winner of the 1000 metre opening event.

From the Quest of Fame mare Storytime and  purchased for $40,000 as a yearling the two year old was having his first race day outing.  Universal Bolt $26 was well placed and beat Draw Forward $12 for the combination of mentor Richard Jolly and apprentice  Libby Hopwood.

Another Richard Jolly runner, the $2.50 public elect Shoctonic with Chad Lever in the saddle, was a farther short half head away third.

Showing a liking for the Parks track the Galileo four year old Bacchus Eagle brought up a two and half length win for the mentoring double of Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas in the 1950 metre second race.

Having the services of Clare Lindop and mothered by the Lure mare Wedgetail Eagle, Bacchus Eagle $2.60 came from a mid field position and beat the $2.50 punter’s choice, the Mick Huxtable trained Paul Gatt piloted Magnificat.  Exalted Beauty $6 was a father three quarters of a length away third for Jim Smith and Simon Price.

Trainer John Thompson scored the first leg of a back to back double when Dean Holland piloted Mother’s Milk $5 the one and a half length winner of race three which was run over 1250 metres.

A four year old daughter of Savabeel and the O’Rielly matron Bailey’s On Ice, Mother’s Milk held down a better than mid field position and went on to beat the Daniel Clarken mentored and his apprentice Lauren Stojakovic ridden Ultramarine Blue $21. Cruziero was a farther length away third for David Jolly and Justin Potter.

Starting the $2.50 punter’s choice the Matthew Neilson guided Nevzlin scored a half length win in the 1400 metre fourth race giving John Thompson his second winner.

The  progeny of the United States bred Dehere and the Nureyev mare Ruski Rose, Nevzlin was in the leading division throughout and went on to record a win over the Simon Casey prepared Simon Price mount Eureka Reign $9.  Egyptian Lova $7.50 was a farther half length away third for David Hayes and Paul Gatt.

Punters were wide of the mark when the David Jolly cared for Paul Gatt mount Budriguez $31 was the one and a quarter length  winner of the 1400 metre fifth race.

From a St. Covet mare Deni and fathered by Al Maher Budriguez was a near all the way winner and beat the Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas mentored Clare Lindop piloted Majestic Music $5.50.   The $9 chance Ocean Challenger was a half length away filling the minor placing for Darren Magro and Simon Price.

David Jolly said that Budriguez, who is now the winner of six races from ten starts, is likely to contest a 1600 metre event on Adelaide Cup Day, March 14.

Apprentice Libby Hopwood added another winner to her tally of city winners when she guided She’s Swings to a neck victory in the 1000 metre final event for her master Richard Jolly.

Starting at $10 the Court of Jewels four year old mare She’s Swings, from the Monde Bleu mare Stallard, came from well back and beat the Craig Stewart trained Dean Yendall ridden Ciro Prince $14.  Palace General $14 was a farther one and a quarter lengths away third for Kerry Petrick and Paul Denton.
