Stewards last Thursday concluded an inquiry into the analysis of a pre-race blood sample taken from the racehorse Value As prior to this event recording a total carbon dioxide (TCO2) level at a concentration greater than 36 mmol/L in plasma as prescribed by the Rules.

Evidence was taken from Dennis O’Leary, the Trainer of Value As, TRSA Steward, M. Santoro, TRSA Veterinary Surgeon, Dr. P. Horridge, Racing Analytical Services Limited Laboratory Director, Dr. J. Vine and Racing Science Centre Manager, Analytical Services, Mr. Mark Jarrett.

Mr. O’Leary pleaded guilty and was fined $7,000.
