Saturday's Morphettville Races Report

GuynoThe winner of the 2007 Western Australian Derby and last month’s Mornington Cup, the seven year old gelding Guyno, added another black type victory to his record when he was the nose winner of the Group 3 Lord Reims Stakes of 2600 metres at Morphettville on Saturday.

Starting the $2.80 second favourite, trained by Lou Luciani and ridden by Jason Whiting the O’Reilly sired Guyno, from the Centaine matron River Century, put in a slashing Adelaide Cup trail when he came from third to defeat the four time Morphettville winner Maunatrice, the $2.40 favourite, for mentor Darren Weir and his apprentice Jacob Rule.

In a tight finish Lady Avacan $17 was a farther half head away third for Sue Jaensch and Craig Robertson.

Fathered by Choisir and mothered by the daughter of Rory’s Jester Bella Jewel the Robert Smerdon prepared apprentice Jason Maskiell ridden two year old colt Rockshaft won his first back type race when he was the long neck winner of the Group 3 Marsh Breeders’ Stakes of 1200 metres.

Returned at $3.80 Rockshaft was in the first two throughout the event and beat the Matthew Ellerton and Simon Zahra trained Chris Symons piloted Redangelo $5. The $2.10 public choice Rescue Mission was another one and three quarter lengths away third for Lee Freedman and Chad Lever making the result a Victorian training triffecta.

Das MachenThe trend of interstate trained and ridden winners continued when the Mick Price prepared Des Machen, the $2.40 equal favourite with the Darren Weir trained Dean Yendall ridden Time Matters, was the two and a quarter length winner of the listed 1200 metre Matrice Stakes.

A Flying Spur mare from the daughter of Kaaptive Edition, Lili Marlene, Das Machen was an all the way winner. The consistent placegetter A Wee Dram $51 was a farther two lengths away third for David Balfour and Todd Pannell.

The Lloyd Kennewell prepared three year old gelding Rialya $7 was the two and a half length winner of the 1800 metre opening event giving apprentice Billy Egan the first leg of a double.

Sired by Kempinsky and mothered by Ettu Blu, a Prince Echo mare, Rialya held down a good position throughout and went on to defeat the $2.40 punter’s choice Trust In Magic for horse carer Rob Wilkinson and jockey Damien Robinson. Tureen $26 was another two lengths away third for Barry Brook and apprentice Claudia Lions.

RockshaftComing from the Flemington stable of Mark Kavanagh the $2 favourite War Ends was the half length winner of race two over 1200 metres and gave rider Chris Symons the first leg of a double.

A Redoute’s Choice fathered four year old gelding out of a Don’t Forget Me mare Good News, War Ends came from the middle of the field and beat the last start winner, the Richard Jolly prepared and his apprentice Libby Hopwood mount Mr Good Cat $4.60.

Regalina $12 was a farther one and three quarter lengths away third for Karen Byrnes and Dominic Tourneur.

Billy Egan rode his second winner when the Leon Wells trained Tibooburra Travis $4.60 was the half length victor of event four which was contested over 2600 metres.

From the Bronx Bomber mare Harlem Angel and sired by the New Zealand bred Sealed Bid, Tibooburra Travis settled well in a mid field position before going on to record a win over the Gary Searle mentored Adrian Patterson steered Stakhanovite $4.60. The last start Strathalbyn winner Sandhill Lad $5 was a farther four lengths away filling the minor placing for Barry Dunn and Justin Potter.

Trainer John Thompson and the Patinack Farm Racing Syndicate managed by Nathan Tinkler brought up the first leg of a double when My King Oath $21 was the nose winner of the 1200 metre sixth race.

War EndsA three year old Exceed And Excel gelding from the daughter of Don’t Say Halo, St. Clemens Belle, My King Oath came from a mid field position and beat Belle Chantecler $3 for mentor Lee Freedman and rider Simon Price.

The $31 chance Lilgiggleo was another nose away third for Paula Trenwith and her apprentice Amy Herrmann.

Mentor John Thompson and the Patinack Farm Racing Syndicate were successful again when the Dean Holland ridden Public Holiday $5.50 was the length winner of the 1600 metre final event.

The win of Public Holiday, who is out of the Generous mare Thanksgiving gave his sire Choisir a double. Public Holiday beat Puerto Banus $12 for mentor Paul Seater and rider Dale Smith.

Adoptme Two $4 was a farther length away filling the minor placing for Dennis O’Leary and Amy Herrmann.
