Smith Suspended For Winning Matrice Ride

Jockey Dale Smith has been suspended and will be unable to ride at this Saturday’s Super Saturday meeting at Flemington or Monday’s Adelaide Cup program.
Smith was outed for four meetings (from March 6 to March 14) for his winning ride aboard the Mick Price-trained Das Machen in the $80,400 Listed Matrice Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville last Saturday.
Shortly after straightening Das Machen ducked in sharply and severely hampered Dean Yendall aboard Time Matters, who was almost put through the running rail as a consequence.
Das Machen went away to win by 2-1/4 lengths with Time Matters finishing second. Yendall viewed the head-on footage of the incident post-race but decided against protesting in a bid to reverse the result.
Although Smith couldn’t escape incurring the wrath of the TRSA stewards, pleading guilty to a charge of careless riding.
