Wednesday's Balaklava Races Report

First to greet the judge at her second race day appearance the $6 returned See Sparky gave her trainer Bill Bogarts and apprentice Libby Hopwood a long head victory in the opening race of 1050 metres at Balaklava on Wednesday.

From the Bellotto mare Festival Parade the Gallo Di Ferro sired See Sparky settled well and, after surviving a protest lodged by the rider of the fourth placegetter Avail for interference at the 200 metre mark, beat the Trevor Dansie charge, the apprentice Amy Herrmann mount Lucy Lou $6.

Silken Thread $4 was another half neck away third for Gary Searle and Simon Price.

The mentoring team of Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas together with rider Clare Lindop chalked up a win when Jet Beau came from a rearward position and powered home down the outside to have a head advantage over his rivals in the 1400 metre second event.

Fathered by the American bred entire Fusaichi Pegasus and mothered by a daughter of Waajib - Al Rosolini, Jet Beau $16 recorded a neck win over the Ken Sweeney cared for Adrian Patterson guided Perfect Crown $26.  Starting at $21 Lord Ashford was another neck away filling the third place getter’s stall for Ken Matson and apprentice Jordon Frew.

After riding the third placegetter in the previous race Jordon Frew rode the Mark Minervini cared for Womby Princess to a two length win in race three which was contested over 1400 metres.

Quoted at $4 the four year old daughter of the Irish bred Lacryma Cristi and the Soviet Lad mare Womby Queen, Womby Princess was well placed early in fourth position before going on to beat the Amy Herrmann mount, the Trevor Day prepared Saintly Glow $21.  The $2.80 punters choice Fashion Wah Wah was another short half head away third for Leon Macdonald, Andrew Gluyas and Clare Lindop.

Having his first start for trainer Barry Woosnam the Wayne Kerford piloted Taj Maher $31 was the head winner of race four which was run over 1050 metres.

A four year old son of Al Maher from the Royal Academy matron Crystal Draw, Taj Maher came from last and beat the Matthew Neilson piloted, Ken Sweeney provided Edge Off $5.  Weholdtheace $4.40 was a farther one and a quarter lengths away third for Craig Stewart and David Tootell.

In a desperate finish Success Dostta $4.60 gave the training duo of David and Scott Brunton and jockey Matthew Neilson a short half head win in the fifth event which was contested over 2200 metres.

From the Night Shift matron Fringe the Success Express gelding Success Dostta came from a mid field position and, unleashing a strong outside run, beat another fast finisher the Darryl Hewitt cared for Jordon Frew mount Merlot Now $9.

Starting at $4.20 King Of Piano was another three and three quarter lengths away third for Kevin and Heather Frew and Paul Gatt.

The two Simons - mentor Simon Casey and jockey Simon Price - enjoyed success when the $4 returned Gift Of Knowledge gave them a nose victory in the 1200 metre sixth race.

Settling well in the middle of the field the Knowledge sired Gift Of Knowledge, from Doutole, a Double Century mare, came from a mid field position and defeated the Lloyd Kennewell prepared Shayne Cahill piloted The Eighth Maker, the $2.50 punter’s choice. Ring Me Not $5 was a father length away third for Stewart Padman and Jordon Frew.

Punters were kept on their toes when the judge could not separate the Mark Kavanagh prepared Todd Pannell piloted Bagman and the Mick Huxtable cared for Amy Herrmann ridden Conduction in the 1400 metre seventh race.

Starting the $2.80 favourite the Easy Rocking sired Bagman, from the Dehere mare Bada Bing, was well placed while the Reset fathered Conduction $4.60, from the Rubiton mare Great Manners, was no farther back than third.

Ace or Joka $7 was a farther neck away third for Lloyd Kennewell and Shayne Cahill.

The Ken Sweeney prepared Paul Gatt ridden Jeunealistic $8 scored a long neck victory in the final event which was contested over 1600 metres.

A Jeune gelding from Classy Looker, a Euclase mare, Jeunalistic came from third and, with the aid of a rails run, beat Golden Schnaps $51 for Trevor Day and Libby Hopwood.

Scene in Pink $4.80 was another long neck away third for Simon Casey and Simon Price.
