Wednesday's Gawler Races Report

Dominic Tourneur got the new season to a good start when he rode a treble at Gawler on Wednesday.

Tourneur’s first winner came courtesy of the Fred Meuring stable when Mean Jean led all the way to be the two and three quarter length winner of the second race which was contested over 1114 metres.

A Bellotto seven year old mare from the St. Covet matron Mean Green, Mean Jean beat the John Dunn prepared apprentice Scott Westover ridden Olivia Lass $4.40.

Just Tess $4.40 was another three quarters of a length away third for Brian Mueller and Justin Potter.

The David Jolly trained Kid Sister gave Dominic Tourneur the middle pin of his treble when he saluted the judge in the 1717 metre third race.

Starting the $3.20 favourite the Street Cry four year old mare, from Miss Akatone, an Akhadan mare, Kid Sister was well placed and, coming down the centre of the track over the concluding stages, beat the Dion Koch prepared Scott Westover ridden Dreamin’ Nina $7 by a head.

Holy Shemoley $4 was a farther neck away third for John MacMillan and Justin Potter.

Dominic Tourneur rode his third winner for the day when Tuscan Wonder, carrying top-weight of 58kg and starting from the outside in barrier number fourteen, gave his trainer Kirsten McGowan a seven and a quarter length win in the 2015 metre sixth race.

Starting at $4 the Grass Wonder sired Tuscan Wonder, from the Alzao mare Laudemio, came from well back in the early stages and powered home down the extreme outside of the track to beat the Ken Matson prepared Jordan Frew ridden Lord Chiefly $18.

Two Timing $6.50 was a farther two and a quarter lengths away filling the minor placing for Leon Macdonald, Andrew Gluyas and Clare Lindop.

The More Than Ready sired first starter More Alluring gave trainer Mark Kavanagh and apprentice Mitchell Speers a one and a quarter length win in the opening event of 1214 metres.

From the Semipalatinsk mare Eureka Jewel More Alluring, the  $2.60 public elect, came with a powerful run in the home straight after being slowly away and beat Call Me Biscuit $2.80 for the combination of Stuart Gower and Michael Hoppo.

Von Radetzky $8 was a farther one and a half lengths away filling the minor placing for John O’Connor and Todd Pannell.

The US bred Bellotto brought up a siring double when Owdatay $9 gave Strathalbyn trainer Phillip Cole and rider Damian Robinson a one and a half neck win in the 1214 metre fourth race.

From the Hand Crafted mare Handsign, Owdatay was on the pace throughout and beat the Peter Moody prepared Todd Pannell ridden Mystic Morn $21 giving the Strathalbyn track a race quinella.

Where’s Tim $4.40 was a farther neck away third for Dion Koch and Justin Potter.

After coming from well back in the field Target Explorer $10 thundered home over the concluding stages to give horse carer John Hickmott and apprentice Jackson Matthews a one and a quarter length win in race five which was run over 1717 metres.

A Taos seven year old gelding from the Regal Classic mare Brightly, Target Explorer, for whom the win was his fourth from thirty-five starts, beat King of Piano for the training combination of Kevin and Heather Frew and jockey Clare Lindop.

Eagle’s Glory $21 was another length away third for Brian Lear and Wayne Kerford.

Winning his second race from four starts Triple Tee, the $2.50 favourite, sent punters home on a winning note in the final event of 1114 metres.

Being under the care of Mark Minervini and having the services of Matthew Neilson, Triple Tee - a Tayasu Tsuyoshi sired gelding from the  Bellotto mare Truly - came from the middle of the field and, going to the better ground on the outside of the track, recorded a nose victory over the Kristi Evans trained Clare Lindop guided Folau $7.

Starting at $8 Bar Room Belle provided local trainer Sharyn Ratch and jockey Damien Robinson the minor placing being a farther one and a half lengths away third.
