Egan Outed For Six Weeks

Billy EganApprentice Billy Egan will not be able to ride until mid-September after TRSA stewards handed down their verdict for a positive swab.

Egan produced a urine sample at Morphettville on Saturday, 16 July 2011, in which the substance Phentermine was detected.

Phentermine is an appetite suppressant. The substance is illegal under the rules of races should Phentermine be present at a concentration above 500 µg/L.

In giving his evidence at Monday’s inquiry, Egan admitted to taking the substance the previous evening and consequently pleaded guilty to the charge.

Stewards then suspended Egan for six weeks but backdated the penalty to 29 July, the day he was stood down from riding. He will be able to ride trackwork and in official trials from this Friday onwards while he’ll be free to ride competitively on September 9.

Furthermore, stewards also directed Egan to provide evidence from an approved medical expert regarding his optimum riding weight prior to riding in races.
