It will be a while before Obsidian Dragon races again following her below par effort in the $40,000 Maxwell Cooper's Memorial Sprint (1050m) at Balaklava last Wednesday.
Trained by David Balfour at Morphettville, Obsidian Dragon ($2.50-$3) finished a well-beaten seventh in the event won by Basil Da Man ($3-$2.90 fav).
Balfour has since advised TRSA stewards that pathology tests undertaken subsequent to the race have identified the onset of a virus.
Consequently, the four-year-old daughter of Hidden Dragon will receive veterinary treatment and her trackwork load will be eased to permit recovery.
Obsidian Dragon, placed three times in stakes company, has raced 17 times for five wins and six placings with prizemoney standing at $237,250.
