Saturday's Morphettville Races Report

Apprentice Lauren Stojakovic won the best race of her career when she guided the Brian Mueller trained Just Sybil to a long neck win in the Listed W.H.Wylie Handicap of 1100 metres at Morphettville on Saturday.

An Alannan six year old mare from the Opera Prince mare Opera Symbol, Just Sybil $26 came from a midfield position and defeated the Alison Bennett trained Reece Wheeler ridden King Hoaks $41 with Curtana, the $2.90 favourite, being three quarters of a length away third for Peter Moody and Linda Meech.

Jockey Steven King brought up his second winner for the afternoon when he steered the $1.85 favourite Tai Tai Tess to a half length win in the Listed Morphettville Guineas of 1600 metres.

Being under the care of Caulfield trainer Robert Smerdon the Magic Albert sired filly, from the Last Tycoon mare Tycoon Tess, Tai Tai Tess settled well early before going on to beat the Peter Moody mentored Linda Meech ridden Hurriyet $4.40.

Lipari $12 was a farther long head away third for Pat Hyland.

Punters were in good form early when the Grant Craven prepared Jordan Frew ridden Great Player, the $1.50 favourite, was the four length winner of the opening event of 2500 metres.

A Galileo gelding from the The Minstrel mare Queen’s Minstrel, Great Player led all the way and defeated the Joe Lockyer prepared apprentice Jackson Matthews ridden Sparkling Victory $9.

Starting at $31 Virvacity was a farther three quarters of a length away third for Darren Weir and Mitchell Speers.

After having the third placegetter in the opening event Darren Weir broke through for a win when the apprentice Jake Duffy ridden Most Husbands, the $2.40 favourite, was the one and a quarter length winner of race two which was contested over 1200 metres.

From the Celestial Dancer mare No Say and sired by Testa Rossa, Most Husbands was well placed and beat Noir Rasoir $31 for trainer David Balfour and rider Todd Pannell.

Highly Recommended $3.80 was a farther short half head away third for Peter Moody and Linda Meech.

Trainer Robert Hickmott kept the momentum going for the interstate trainers when his charge Excluded $1-45 was the two and a quarter length winner of race three which was run over 1800 metres.

Piloted by Melbourne hoop Steven King the High Chaparral sired Excluded, from the Kaapstad mare Cruziero, was always well placed and beat the Tony McEvoy prepared Kate Mallyon ridden Foxham $5.

The consistent Manganese $9 was another one and a half lengths away third for Ken Sweeney and Paul Gatt.

Starting at $6 Keep Cool brought up its second successive win at Morphettville when the three year old was the neck winner of the 1600 metre fourth race.

Being under the care of Flemington trainer Danny O’Brien and having the services of apprentice Mitchell Speers, Keep Cool brought up a race to race double for his sire High Chaparral.

From the Casual Lies mare Casual Chick, Keep Cool came from a worse than midfield position and beat Navillus Superman for the combination of trainer Andrew Noblet and apprentice Kate Mallyon.

Roy Rajas $71 was a long head away third for Stuart Padman and Todd Pannell.

Mr Good Cat gave local stables their first win of the day when the five year old gelding took out the 1050 metre sixth race.

Starting at $5 the Tale of the Cat sired Mr Good Cat, from the Slew City Slew matron Rose a Slew, came from well back to beat the Stuart Gower prepared Jackson Matthews ridden Sequallan $31.

Also at $31 Strong Campagne was a farther one and a half lengths away third for Mick Whittle and Troy Baker.

The win of the David Hayes trained Nathan Rose ridden The Blues $3 capped off a big day for Victorian stables when he was the half length winner of the 1200 metre final event.

Now a winner of his last two starts the Fastnet Rock sired four year old gelding from the Bluebird mare Blue Music, The Blues led all the way and beat the Stephen Brown trained Alana Brown ridden Tuscan Breeze $7.

Test Century $10 was a farther length away filling the minor placing for Mark Minervini and Jackson Matthews.
