Factors Conspire To Cause Meeting Cancellation

Thursday's meeting at Port Lincoln was abandoned in bizarre circumstances.

Stewards inspected the track prior to the first race and noticed “areas of deterioration” alongside the track, close to the running rail.

These areas of deterioration were predominately surrounding sprinklers.

TRSA stewards also took into consideration windy conditions from the north-west with gusts up to 65km/h.

Upon hearing a submission from a group of riders, acting chairman Matt Santoro determined the degree of risk to be “unacceptable” and abandoned the meeting at 1:15pm local time.
