Saturday's Strathalbyn Races Report

Five local trainers, David Jolly, Brian Mueller, Peter Moody, Greg Lesnikowski and Shane Oxlade each had winners and local hoop Justin Potter rode a double at Strathalbyn on Saturday.

Having its first race day outing Military Dan gave trainer David Jolly and rider Justin Potter a long neck win in the 1200 metre third event.

Starting at $5.50 Military Dan brought up a siring double for his sire Akhadan.  From the Military Plume mare Lithiasis, Military Dan started well before drifting back to a mid-field position but was able to muster enough speed to go on and defeat another David Jolly runner Our Danchi $3.50 with apprentice Claudia Lions in the saddle.

The John Macmillan mentored Amy Herrmann ridden Holy Shemoley, the $2.70 public elect, was a farther four lengths away third and brought up a trifecta for the Strathalbyn track.

Strathalbyn trainer Brian Mueller was the second local mentor to meet with success when the Dom Tourneur guided Just Tess scored a seven length win in the 1200 metre fourth race.

Owned by Mueller’s wife Lorraine the Devaraja sired Just Tess, from the Oenjay Star metre Oivia’s Delight, led all the way and beat the Fred Meuring prepared Nathan Rose ridden Salvation bringing up another quinella for the local track.

Call Me Count was a farther two and a quarter lengths away third for former jockey now trainer Michael Vassallo and Dale Evens.

The Peter Moody prepared Nothing Shall Pass $7 brought up a hat trick of wins for Strathalbyn in the 1600 metre fifth race.

Having the services of Libby Hopwwod the Fraar sired Nothing Shall Pass, from the Blushing Scribe mare Amy’s Blushing, led all the way and defeated the Colin Baker trained Amy Herrmann piloted Rikbat $4.80.

Cadasha $4 was another half neck away third for Stuart Padman and Clare Lindop.

The Greg Lesnikowski trained Sturgis $3.50 kept up the winning momentum for Strathalbyn trained horses when the six year old gelding was the three and a quarter length winner of the sixth race.

Sired by the Irish bred sire Generous from the Shy Rambler mare Shy Lizzie, Sturgis was well served by the start and went on to defeat Asso Bello $3 for trainer Dennis O’Leary and rider Libby Hopwood.

Dictatorial, the $2.50 favourite, was a farther half length away third for John Croucher and Jordan Frew.

Trainer Shane Oxlade completed a good day for the Strathalbyn training brigade when his charge Sandquill, with Justin Potter in the saddle, won the last race which was contested over 1350 metres.

From the Brondesbury mare Bronquill, the Blevic sired Sandquill $9 came from a rearward position and beat Devasent $26 for Sue Nolan and Michael Hoppo.

Love a Giggle, the $2.30 favourite, was a farther three quarters of a length away third for Brian Mueller and Dom Tourneur.

The $1.80 favourite That’s All Gold gave punters a good start when the three year old gelding was the half length winner of the opening event of 2050 metres.

Recording her first win from four starts the Dash for Cash sired filly, That’s All Gold, from the General Nediym mare Nova Gem, is trained by Stuart Gower and was ridden by Michael Hoppo. That’s All Gold was well placed and defeated the Leon Macdonald/Andrew Gluyas prepared Clare Lindop ridden Two Timing $2.05.

Giant Victory $5.50 was a farther three and a quarter lengths away third for John A O’Connor and Jordan Frew.

The combination of Oakbank based trainer Claudette Rose and jockey Simon Price scored a one and a quarter length win when Harry High Pants $4.20 was victorious in race two which was contested over 1350 metres.

An Akhadan sired three year old gelding from the Staaraq matron Goodie Too Shoes, Harry High Pants led throughout and beat No Doubtfire $3.30 for local trainer Barry Dunn and rider Dom Tourneur.

Exalted Filly, the $2.60 favourite, was another long neck away third for Roy Rogers and Michael Hoppo.

Jockey Clare Lindop brought up her 998th career winner when she guided the Len Smith prepared Instructor $7 to a long neck win in the seventh race which was run over 1350 metres.

A Pins gelding from the Centro mare Excelo, Instructor was well placed and, going wide on the turn, finished too strongly for the Darryl Dodson prepared Holly McKechnie guided Bonindi, the $2.30 equal favourite with the third placegetter Zizz who was a farther three quarters of a length away filling the minor placing for David Jolly and Simon Price.
