RACE 1 – BALAKLAVA BOOKMAKERS / SABIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE – 1050 metres

MOON ROCK (C. Lindop) reared as the gates opened and was slow to jump.

GAZING (D. Cleaver) was slow to jump.

MOI (D. Gauci) raced greenly in the early stages of the event.

In the vicinity of the 550 metres DEVARIVA (M. Neilson) brushed the running rail.

Inside the 500 metres PROSPEROUS BID (NZ) (S. Katsidis) was obliged to steady off the heels of ABOYEUR (W. Kerford), which shifted in.

In the vicinity of the 400 metres PROSPEROUS BID (NZ) (S. Katsidis) was held up for some time, before shifting in and attempting a run inside of ABOYEUR (W. Kerford), resulting in ANTIQUE EDGE (D. Tootell) being taken in and tightened onto DEVARIVA (M. Neilson), inconveniencing both runners.

Near the 200 metres HOT FLICKS (S. Cahill) was inclined to lay in under pressure.

RACE 2 – YORK CIVIL CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1200 metres

HOUSE GUEST (C. Bryant) was slow to jump. Shortly after HOUSE GUEST commenced to race keenly and shifted in, turning the hindquarters of CHINA VICEROY (M. Neilson) and then shifted out on a number of occasions, brushing the hindquarters of YUNKINGCOLE (Darren Holland), resulting in that horse being obliged to race wider.

LORD MILN (C. Lindop) hung out throughout the event. LORD MILN was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, who reported no visible abnormalities. Mrs. C. Gellard, Trainer of LORD MILN, was advised that a repetition of the gelding’s behaviour would lead to action being taken against it.

HOUSE GUEST lost its near fore plate in running.

RACE 3 – YALUMBA CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1200 metres

On jumping away VILLAGE BOY (M. Neilson) lost its position when tightened between SEPARATOR (S. Price) which rolled out, at the same time as TASS (W. Kerford) shifted in.

Near the 900 metres TEMPESTO (Darren Holland), while being restrained, shifted in and tightened CROWNED LOVE (C. Lever) onto TASS (W. Kerford), resulting in both horses being inconvenienced. Although not entirely responsible for the incident, C. Lever was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.

The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon confirmed that VILLAGE BOY suffered a bi-lateral bleeding attack during the event. Mr. B. Mueller, Trainer of VILLAGE BOY, was advised the gelding would now be suspended from racing for a period of three months in accordance with AR 53A.

RACE 4 – WOODSTOCK CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1600 metres

MOUNT ZASKAR (NZ) (S. Price) laid in under pressure in the straight.

C. Bryant, rider of ZIPGAZER, reported the mare would not stretch out during running. A Veterinary examination of ZIPGAZER revealed the mare was sore in the wither and lower back.

Subsequent to the race ELAVION was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the mare was sore in the wither area.

Subsequent to the race MOUNT ZASKAR (NZ) was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

RACE 5 – BARDRILL DISTANCE CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 2200 metres

SIMULATE was withdrawn by Stewards at 2.41 p.m., acting on Veterinary advice that the mare was lame in the off fore leg.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on SIMULATE be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN 13 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE 12 cents in the dollar.
SP bets are subject to the deductions.

Racing inside the 1400 metres HOSTILE LAD (N. Tomizawa) shifted in and tightened ELEGANT RHAPSODY (B. Vale).

Subsequent to the race BALFADEZ was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding was sore in the lower back. Mr. R. Moore, Trainer of BALFADEZ, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required to be lodged prior to the gelding accepting for any future event.

RACE 6 – PRICE’S BAKERY / MALAYSIA AIRLINES BALAKLAVA CUP – 1600 metres

DANISH STORM (S. Price) reared as the gates opened and was slow to jump.

Near the 1400 metres NONE FOR THE ROAD (J. Holder) was obliged to steady off the heels of TERMINUS PRINCE (C. Lindop), which shifted in.

Near the 700 metres QUESTAMATIC (D. Tootell) became unbalanced and struck the fence when tightened by MUSTAAGEL (NZ) (B. Claridge), as a result of that horse being taken in marginally by DHOLIMA’S DAUGHTER (M. Hoppo).

Inside the 700 metres MUSTAAGEL (NZ) (B. Claridge) was inconvenienced when tightened by DHOLIMA’S DAUGHTER (M. Hoppo).

Near the 400 metres QUESTAMATIC (D. Tootell) shifted out, taking DHOLIMA’S DAUGHTER (M. Hoppo) out onto INKAMULLA (NZ) (M. Neilson), resulting in that gelding making heavy contact with SEREIN (D. Carney), which had been inclined to lay in. As a result, INKAMULLA (NZ) was obliged to steady off the heels of DHOLIMA’S DAUGHTER.

In the vicinity of the 300 metres S. Katsidis, rider of McBEAL, lost his whip when accidentally struck by the whip of another runner.

Inside the 300 metres DANISH STORM (S. Price) was held up for a short distance. S. Price reported that he had difficulty in obtaining clear running for the remainder of the event.

RACE 7 – COOPERS CLASS 5 HANDICAP – 1400 metres

Stewards considered an approach by Mrs. T. Dunlop, Trainer of BOURBON AND WATER, to replace Apprentice C. Bryant, owing to him being unable to claim a kilogram, as agreed when he was engaged. C. Bryant confirmed this undertaking. However, after considering options, Mrs. Dunlop advised Stewards that she was satisfied that C. Bryant could claim half a kilogram.

Approaching the finish SEA THE WAY (N. Tomizawa) shifted in under riding and tightened JEUNE’S HEART (S. Katsidis), which was obliged to steady, taking that mare in onto SO SAY ALL OF US (J. Maund), tightening that mare onto LADY GLENLEIGH (S. Price). N. Tomizawa was reprimanded and advised in future to take greater care when shifting ground.

RACE 8 – ARISTOCRAT CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1400 metres

Approaching the 900 metres YOUNG LOVER (W. Kerford) got its head up and raced ungenerously for a short distance, when being restrained off the heels of SHUKU HAI (N. Tomizawa), which was inclined to lay in and away from YAN YEAN (J. Bowditch).

Inside the 500 metres YOUNG LOVER (W. Kerford) was forced to steady off the heels of SHUKU HAI (N. Tomizawa), which shifted out. N. Tomizawa was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.
