RACE 1 – TONY CLEMENTS RACEDAY 3YO FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE – 1300 metres

PUSHING DAISIES (J. Holder) shifted out abruptly on jumping away.

PERSONAL DANCER (T. Creek) jumped away awkwardly and then was inclined to lay in for a short distance.

At the entrance to the straight PERSONAL DANCER (T. Creek) shifted out and brushed ROMANTIC LASS (M. McDonald).

Racing to the 200 metres DANCE FOR KATE (J. Maund), which had commenced to improve, was obliged to steady momentarily off the heels of TOPAVIC (C. Bryant).

J. Holder, rider of PUSHING DAISIES, explained that after jumping awkwardly he had elected to ride the filly back in the field and obtained a position three wide with cover, on the back of ROMANTIC LASS (M. McDonald), leaving the back straight. He stated that his mount had been under pressure to maintain the back of ROMANTIC LASS, and it was inclined to shift about when placed under pressure near the 600 metres.

RACE 2 – SPORTS BET BREAKFAST CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1000 metres

The start of this race was delayed owing to HIONDI proving difficult to load. Mrs. H. Lehmann, Trainer of the gelding, was advised that a repetition of its behaviour may lead to action being taken against it.

FINNISS RHYTHM (M. Hoppo) was inclined to rear on jumping away.

HIONDI (J. Holder) and CHAMPAGNE FINALE (C. Bryant) were inclined to race greenly in the early and middle stages of the race.

Near the 900 metres CHAMPAGNE FINALE (C. Bryant) was inclined to shift in and away from AROUND THE BLOCK (M. McDonald) and contacted GREG (J. Potter), which became unbalanced.

Near the 200 metres C. Buchiw, rider of NADEN, accidentally dropped the whip. C. Buchiw was advised that future incidents of carelessness would result in a penalty being imposed.

RACE 3 – TERRY McAULIFFE CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1650 metres

Acting on a confirmed telephone advice from Mr. T. Day, Trainer of STARLIT, the mare had sustained injuries when being plated, it was withdrawn by Stewards at 7.47 a.m.

RATHER GAZE (T. Creek) was slow to jump.

SOUND TYCOON (J. Bowditch) raced fiercely in the middle stages of the event.

In the vicinity of the 500 metres SEPARATOR (S. Price) was held up when unable to obtain a clear run while racing inside HINDRANCE (W. Kerford), and immediately behind EXTRA SPESH (B. Vale), which had commenced to weaken.

Approaching the 400 metres SEPARATOR (S. Price) shifted out and inconvenienced GILGAMESH (R. Faehr).

Subsequent to this event T. Creek approached Stewards and due to certain concerns about his health, stood down from his remaining engagements.

J. Bowditch was examined by the Club Doctor and ruled fit to fulfil his engagements.

RACE 4 – BRENTON YATES C, G & E CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1250 metres

CROWN SERDAR was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon on arrival on course and ruled fit to start.

ROAD CLOSED (C. Bryant) shifted out on jumping away, tightening MAJOR PORTION (S. Cahill), onto CROWNED SERDAR (G. O’Loughlin), which was inconvenienced.

CROWNED SERDAR (G. O’Loughlin) was inclined to race ungenerously in the middle stages.

Approaching the 300 metres MAJOR PORTION (S. Cahill) broke down, resulting in that rider attempting to restrain his mount. In attempting to avoid MAJOR PORTION, MIKAJA (J. Maund) shifted out abruptly and as a result WOLF TRAP (C. Lindop), PRIOR LEADER (N. Tomizawa) and BEVAN (S. Price) were all severely hampered.

RACE 5 – JOHN LETTS CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1400 metres

Acting on a confirmed telephone advice from Mr. M. Noonan, Trainer of HEART STARTER, the gelding had been involved in a road accident, it was withdrawn by Stewards at 11.49 a.m.

DUA AWALI was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon prior to the start and ruled fit.

CHERRY ORCHARD (NZ) (M. Hoppo) jumped away awkwardly.

In the vicinity of the 900 metres CART LURE (N. Tomizawa) rolled out onto NEVADA GOLD (S. Price) on a number of occasions, resulting in NEVADA GOLD being inclined to get its head up and race fiercely.

Inside the 500 metres LORD ARLINGTON (J. Bowditch), which had been inclined to race keenly, was obliged to steady off the heels of NEVADA GOLD (S. Price), which rolled in, at the same time as CHERRY ORCHARD (NZ) (M. Hoppo), which had been inclined to lay out, shifted out.

Approaching the 200 metres LORD ARLINGTON (J. Bowditch) was inconvenienced when tightened between CAPO DEL OPO (D. Tootell) which shifted in, and CART LURE (N. Tomizawa) which shifted out.

Inside the 100 metres TEMPESTO (G. O’Loughlin) was obliged to restrain when tightened initially by CHERRY ORCHARD (NZ) (M. Hoppo), which was inclined to lay in, prior to being taken in by NEVADA GOLD (S. Price). Shortly after TEMPESTO was forced to check when pressured by DUA AWALI (B. Claridge), which shifted out across the heels of SPINNING EAGLE (NZ) (J. Maund), when attempting to improve its position. B. Claridge was severely reprimanded and advised in future to only take runs where there was sufficient room.

RACE 6 – RADIO TAB CLASS 6 HANDICAP – 1000 metres

Mr. A. McEvoy, Trainer of ROYAL LIFTOUT, was questioned regarding the Document of Description not being available for the gelding. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by Mr. McEvoy. As Stewards were able to confirm the identity of ROYAL LIFTOUT from their records, the gelding was permitted to start.

HERACLES (N. Tomizawa) shifted out on jumping away and inconvenienced BONNIE GOLLIE (J. Potter).

Near the 900 metres BIOCARD (J. Bowditch), which was inclined to shift in and SCENICNICK (C. Lindop), which was inclined to get its head up and lay out, brushed.

Racing to the 600 metres BIOCARD (J. Bowditch), which had been racing tight on the outside of SCENICNICK (C. Lindop), rolled in, resulting in SCENICNICK shifting away abruptly and being inconvenienced when obliged to restrain off the heels of ROYAL LIFTOUT (S. Price). J. Bowditch was advised of his obligations when shifting ground.

Racing to the 200 metres ROYAL LIFTOUT (S. Price) was obliged to steady when tightened by BIOCARD (J. Bowditch) and shortly after BIOCARD shifted in and brushed AMBROC (G. O’Loughlin).

RACE 7 – MORPHETTVILLE EQUINE CLINIC HANDICAP – 2000 metres

Mr. J. Hickmott, Trainer of FRENZEL RHOMB, was questioned regarding the late notification of rider for the gelding. Mr. Hickmott advised that it was his belief he had declared the rider at Acceptance Time with the Trainers’ Service Centre as required. Mr. Hickmott was advised the Stewards would investigate the matter. However, in the event that his advice could not be confirmed a $50 fine would be imposed.

GLENOLA (N. Tomizawa) was slow to jump.

Inside the 500 metres STAR’S JEWEL (D. Tootell) became held up and was unable to obtain clear ground until in the vicinity of the 400 metres.

Approaching the 300 metres STAR’S JEWEL (D. Tootell) again was held up and then brushed by FRENZEL RHOMB (J. Bowditch), which shifted out.

J. Potter, rider of PITT BOSS KISS (NZ), was found guilty of a charge under ARR 137(A)(2) in that he had continued to use his whip when his mount was out of contention and not responding. J. Potter was fined $100.

N. Tomizawa, rider of GLENOLA, pleaded guilty to a charge under ARR 137(A)(2) in that he had continued to use his whip when his mount was out of contention and not responding. N. Tomizawa was fined $100.

RACE 8 – MERCEDES HOWARD FILLES & MARES CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1250 metres

ROSE OF CAITLIN (G. O’Loughlin) missed the start several lengths.

NIGHT FANCY (C. Buchiw) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, inconveniencing BAROSSA CAN CAN (D. Carney).

CACCIANI (NZ) was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, who reported the mare was lame in the near fore leg.
