RACE 1 – SCOTT’S GROUP OF COMPANIES DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE – 1900 metres

Racing to the 600 metres EYE CONTACT (D. Tootell) had to be eased and was held up for a run behind SIR MAVARICK (A. Stead).

Racing to the 100 metres SIR MAVARICK (A. Stead), which was under pressure, was disappointed for a run due to LUCKY VEINE (P. Marks) rolling out.

A Veterinary inspection of SIR MAVARICK revealed no visible abnormalities.

RACE 2 – HAYMAN CONTRACTING / SABIS COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE – 1200 metres

After being placed in the barrier BIDDYUP (D. Cleaver) broke through the front of the stalls and galloped to the winning post. Stewards ordered the withdrawal of BIDDYUP at 1.05 p.m. to avoid any further delay.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on BIDDYUP be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN 23 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE 18 cents in the dollar.
SP bets are subject to the deductions.

When the gates were released SEXY SENOR (K. Post) attempted to buck and was very unruly in the early stages. Mr. R. Wilson, Trainer of SEXY SENOR, was advised the gelding must complete a Barrier Trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before accepting for any future event.

PASSION PLAY (A. Stead) was hampered on jumping away, when the starting gate, after opening, failed to secure correctly.

TELDALE (G. O’Loughlin) commenced to hang out from the 600 metres and as a result that rider was unable to ride the gelding out in his normal manner over the concluding 200 metres. Ms. B. O’Loughlin, Trainer of TELDALE, was advised that a repetition of the gelding’s racing manners could lead to action being taken against it.

RACE 3 – MT GAMBIER TRACK OPENING 30 MARCH 2003 CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1100 metres

EDVOKIA (C. Lindop) was slow to begin.

B. Vale, rider of ZOHAR, explained to the Stewards the mare had a tendency to over-race in the middle stages of the event and from the 400 metres it commenced to lay in, and as a result he was unable to ride ZOHAR out in his normal manner.

Stewards reclassified the track at 1.50 p.m. from GOOD to DEAD.

RACE 4 – YALUMBA CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1100 metres

MARSCAY EARL (J. Maund) jumped away awkwardly and inconvenienced I’M A PEST (C. Bryant) and MONSOON BABY (D. Tootell).

RACE 5 –GAMBIER EARTH MOVERS DISTANCE CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1900 metres

J. Potter, rider of ZIPGAZER, reported his barrier gate had swung back when the start was effected but had no effect on the mare obtaining a fair start.

When the gates were released KAZOO (NZ) (N. Tomizawa) and MARIZZIQUE (C. Bryant) brushed.

CELLAY (B. Claridge) over-raced in the early stages of the event.

C. Bryant was examined by the Club’s Doctor and as a result was declared unfit to fulfil the remainder of his engagements.

RACE 6 – CUB CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1300 metres

Mrs. E. Cruttenden, Trainer of CITY PRESS, approached the Stewards requesting permission to scratch the mare due to the downgrade of the track. Stewards agreed to the request. CITY PRESS was withdrawn at 2.31 p.m.

PANNING FOR GOLD (G. Hoobin) was slow to begin.

MISS DANGER (P. Marks) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

Racing to the 1200 metres GOLDEN KOLOLO (A. Stead) rolled in and brushed BOUND AND GAGGED (S. Harrison), which was racing greenly.

RACE 7 – TREVOR LITTLE LIFE MEMBER HANDICAP – 1300 metres

Mrs. E. Cruttenden, Trainer of MAZUMA MIRAGE, approached the Stewards requesting permission to scratch the mare due to the downgrade of the track. Stewards agreed to the request. MAZUME MIRAGE was withdrawn at 2.31 p.m.

SOVEREIGN COURT (D. Missen) was slow to begin.

H. McKechnie, rider of COOL CONDIE, was severely reprimanded for allowing her mount to shift in racing to the 900 metres, resulting in CONSIDEMUS (A. Stead) being tightened for room and having to be steadied to avoid the heels of COOL CONDIE and as a result shifting in and inconveniencing TRAMSTOP (C. Lindop), which in turn shifted in and made contact with MAGNUM OF PRAISE (NZ) (D. Yendall).

RACE 8 – PETER JENNINGS PUMPS / SABIS FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres

The explanation by Mr. P. Preusker, Trainer of JANEY JUGAH, for failing to produce the Document of Description for the mare was accepted.

FLY FOR ME (N. Tomizawa) jumped away awkwardly and as a result inconvenienced DAME DUVESSA (J. Maund), which in turn shifted out, inconveniencing TWIG PRANCER (C. Robertson).
