RACE 1 – WALKER & KEIPERT REAL ESTATE DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE - 1950 metres

The identity of TRUCE D’ETOILE was confirmed by the Stewards own records and permitted to start. Mr. D. Halliday, Trainer of TRUCE D’ETOILE, was fined $50 for not having the papers available as required by AR 59A.

Approaching the 600 metres TRUCE D’ETOILE (N. Tomizawa) rolled out and brushed GHAAZI (NZ) (S. Price).

GHAAZI was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, who reported no visible abnormalities.

RACE 2 – NEW WAVE SEAFOOD / GAWLER SOUTH BAKERY / SABIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1050 metres

COUNTRY EAGLE (N. Paine) was slow to jump and shortly after was severely hampered by WRANGLE (B. Claridge), which shifted out abruptly and GROSS INJUSTICE (C. Bryant), which shifted in.

COUNTRY EAGLE (N. Paine) raced greenly throughout the event.

At the entrance to the straight CAROL ANNE (A. Stead) shifted out onto LEGALLY BLONDE (W. Kerford), which shifted away abruptly, resulting in COUNTRY EAGLE (N. Paine) being obliged to check off its heels.

RORY’S TYPHOON was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, who reported who reported no visible abnormalities.

RACE 3 – WATER SEARCH MAIDEN PLATE – 1200 metres

SMYTZER’S LEADER was withdrawn by Stewards at 7.44 a.m., acting on confirmed advice from Mr. J. Murray, representing Trainer Mr. J. T. Hall, that the gelding had an elevated temperature. Mr. J. Murray was questioned regarding the reasons for the scratching occurring outside the Scratching Time. After considering the explanation tendered, Stewards advised Mr. Murray, representing Mr. Hall, they would impose a fined of $100 under AR 114.

ACT SURE (Darren Holland) and IRISH BLESSING (J. Potter) were slow to jump.

Approaching the 1100 metres ROYAL BELL (S. Cahill) was obliged to steady off the heels of REGARDLESS (W. Kerford), which shifted in.

Near the 500 metres FINA DAZE (NZ) (B. Vale) was obliged to steady off the heels of IRISH BLESSING (J. Potter), which shifted in. J. Potter was advised to take greater care when shifting ground in future.

ROYAL BELL and PRIMED FOR GLORY were examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, who reported no visible abnormalities.

ANTIQUE EDGE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, who reported the gelding exhibited a poor post-race recovery.

J. Holder, rider of PRIMED FOR GLORY, which performed poorly, explained that his mount had been marginally slow to begin, and from his wide draw he had elected to ride his mount quietly with cover. He stated that he had been obliged to race four wide, and that after leaving the 600 metres his mount had struggled under pressure and had given him the impression that it was disinterested in its work. PRIMED FOR GLORY was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, who reported no visible abnormalities.

RACE 4 – AUSTRALIAN BUSINESS INSURANCE AGENCIES CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1600 metres

ENHANCER (D. Carney) was slow to jump.

RACE 5 – POLARCLAD CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1200 metres

THE BARON was withdrawn by Stewards at 10.17 a.m., acting on a confirmed telephone advice from the Trainer Mr. J. Letts the gelding was running a temperature.

SOGNARE (S. Price) was slow to jump.

NEVER DIEU LET UP (W. Kerford) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, inconveniencing MISS NALA (M. Hoppo).

In the vicinity of the 1000 metres FINGERPRINT (C. Bryant) shifted in onto NEVER DIEU LET UP (W. Kerford), which was obliged to check and in doing so over reacted and contacted BURZAM (J. Bowditch), which became unbalanced. C. Bryant was severely reprimanded and advised to give riders on the inside the room to which they are entitled.

Near the 200 metres SOGNARE (S. Price) was obliged to steady off the heels of BURZAM (J. Bowditch), which shifted out.

J. Bowditch, rider of BURZAM, explained that after being inconvenienced in the vicinity of the 1000 metres his mount had never travelled and was always chasing. He felt the speed of the race was beyond BURZAM. BURZAM was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, who reported no visible abnormalities.

RACE 6 – 2002 WOLF BLASS BAROSSA CUP – 1600 metres

SCENICY was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon on arrival on course and found to be lame in the off fore leg. Acting on that advice SCENICY was withdrawn by Stewards at 12.06 p.m.

DORADOS (N. Tomizawa) was slow to jump.

On jumping away NONE FOR THE ROAD (J. Holder) shifted in and inconvenienced SIMPLY MAGICAL (S. Price).

In the vicinity of the 1300 metres DORADOS (N. Tomizawa) brushed the running rail.

COCUS suffered a bi-lateral bleeding attack during the event. Mr. P. Stokes, Trainer of COCUS, was advised the gelding was now suspended for a period of three months in accordance with AR 53A.

RACE 7 – CRITERION TAVERN, GAWLER CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1400 metres

YOU LITTLE BEAUT (S. Price) jumped away awkwardly.

RACE 8 – PROFESSIONALS PLAYFORD CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1050 metres

CHEVITA (C. Bryant) was slow to jump.

Near the 800 metres MURIETTA (B. Vale) rolled in and inconvenienced GRAB A GRANNIE (J. Maund).

Approaching the 500 metres DUBAI CLARE (C. Lindop), which had made the turn awkwardly, shifted out, obliging VINTAGE SECRET (M. Hoppo) to race very wide.

Near the 100 metres NIGHT FANCY (C. Buchiw) was inclined to lay in under pressure.
