RACE 1 –SMOKE-FREE MAIDEN PLATE - 1600 metres

In the vicinity of the 600 metres MAGIC DANE (B. Grimston) shifted out slightly and at the same time DEFINING (K. Louca), which was showing a tendency to shift about, rolled in slightly, resulting in TRUE D’ETOILE (B. Claridge), which was racing between MAGIC DANE and DEFINING, being tightened for galloping room and forced to ease and lose its position.

BOWOOD ROAD (C. Bryant) showed a tendency to lay in under pressure over the concluding 200 metres of the race.

RACE 2 – NORTHERN PLUMBING SUPPLIES CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1100 metres

Upon jumping away MITOBY (N. Tomizawa) shifted in onto VELVET LAKE (C. Bryant), who in turn shifted in onto LINE OF GOLD (W. Kerford), resulting in that gelding being inconvenienced.

In the early stages of event MONSOON BABY (D. Oakford) raced ungenerously and threw its head in the air, and approaching the 300 metres again threw its head in the air and shifted ground outwards.

Approaching the 400 metres VELVET LAKE (C. Bryant) became unbalanced when that mare improved onto the heels of MITOBY (N. Tomizawa).

LINE OF GOLD (W. Kerford), which tailed the field throughout, underwent a Veterinary examination subsequent to the event, which revealed the onset of a virus.

RACE 3 – J B Y & G MARTIN PAINTERS & DECORATORS HANDICAP – 1200 metres

A Veterinary examination of CARNIVOROUS subsequent to the event revealed the gelding had soreness in its near fore fetlock.

B. Grimston, rider of WHISTLING LASS, was advised by Stewards of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the finish of a race.

RACE 4 – A H PLANT HIRE CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1200 metres

When the gates were released KENSARM (K. Louca) was slow into stride.

METAL GOLD (C. Lindop) showed a tendency to lay in rounding the home turn and over the concluding stages of the race.

RACE 5 – BERNARD SMITH CHEM-MART CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1500 metres

DAMOCLES (N. Tomizawa) jumped away awkwardly.

When the gates were released C. Buchiw, rider of BENARDO, lost her near side iron momentarily and quickly retrieved it.

Shortly after the start BLIGHTY (D. Tootell) shifted out, resulting in TRUCENT’S TOUCH (B. Grimston) being inconvenienced.

RACE 6 – FLINDERS HOTEL SOCIAL CLUB HANDICAP – 1850 metres

M. Neilson replaced B. Grimston on TEHRIER, due to B. Grimston being excessively overweight. He was subsequently fined $100 under ARR 120(b).

N. Tomizawa, rider of GRETROBY, reported to Stewards the gelding never travelled well at any stage, and was hard ridden for the majority of the race today. When put under pressure at the 800 metres under the whip, GRETROBY had failed to respond. A Veterinary examination of GRETROBY revealed the gelding had a heart murmur. Mr. L. K. McDonald, Trainer of GRETROBY, was advised the gelding was suspended from racing for a period, and until such time as a satisfactory ECG was lodged and GRETROBY would be required to trial to the Stewards satisfaction in an Official Trial.

RACE 7 – WEST END DRAUGHT / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1200 metres

FUMINO BRIGHTIA was a late withdrawal by Stewards at 11.30 a.m. due to a float breakdown.

When the gates were released DAME DUVESSA (J. Burgess) bounded in the air and as a result was slow to begin.

FAIR IMAGE (C. Lindop) was slow to begin and tailed the field throughout

HILLBILLY FLYER (C. Bryant) was slow to begin.
