RACE 1 – CASCADE DRAUGHT MAIDEN PLATE (4YO&Up SW) – 1400 METRES

LEICA HUNKA (S Brazil) dislodged the rider on the way to the barrier and ran loose for some time before being captured by the Clerk of the Course.  LEICA HUNKA underwent a pre race Veterinary examination and was found fit to take its place in the field.  Jockey Brazil was checked by the Ambulance Officers and passed fit to take her ride.

AGNELLI (S Maskiell) was kicked in the barrier, underwent a pre race Veterinary examination and was found fit to take its place in the field.

LEICA HUNKA (S Brazil) jumped outwards and bumped with AL CIELO (C Kingston).

ARUNDEL CASTLE (J Geard (a)) was slow into stride and unable to muster early speed.

KAY TEE (D Oakford) and AL CIELO (C Kingston) over raced in the early and middle stages of the event.

At approximately the 500 metres FANTA’S RETURN (B McCoull) was carried wider on the track when WASTED NIGHTS (K Bandy) shifted out to obtain a clear run.

BUSTER ROAD (T Atkin) raced greenly in the home straight.

Stewards spoke to Trainer Dianne Ray-Luttrell in relation to the improved performance of LEICA HUNKA (S Brazil) in today’s event.  Trainer Ray-Luttrell stated that she had altered the filly’s work during the week to freshen her up and that the filly’s last start was better than the form suggested as she had been held up at a critical part of the race. 

RACE 2 –SHAW CONTRACTING CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

SANARELLE (C Kingston) over raced and hung out rounding the 1200 metre turn.

At approximately the 800 metre turn, SANARELLE (C Kingston) hung out onto MAXLIN STAR (B McCoull).

MAXLIN STAR (B McCoull) and SANARELLE (C Kingston) bumped at approximately the 500 metres.

Trainer John Luttrell stated that since WHISPERING WARRIOR has been travelling to Brighton for track work, his work has been disappointing and the gelding has not been eating well.  Stewards informed Trainer John Luttrell that in future he must notify Stewards of any condition or irregularity, which may affect the horses’ performance prior to the horse racing.  A post race Veterinary examination of WHISPERING WARRIOR (Trainer J Luttrell) revealed this gelding to have a very high heart rate and appeared to be heavily fatigued.  Trainer Luttrell was advised that a blood count be taken and a Veterinary Certificate is required prior to this gelding’s next official trial or race start.

A swab sample was taken from WHISPERING WARRIOR (Trainer J Luttrell).

RACE 3 – SOUTHERN CROSS CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1100 METRES

INLUCK (B McCoull) jumped inwards at the start onto ALL ON BLACK (S Maskiell) who then stumbled.

JUMBURRAN BAY (C Kingston) was slow into stride.

At approximately the 950 metres LISETTE (S Hamer (a)) was momentarily inconvenienced when SUNJOY (K Boxall (a)) shifted ground inwards.

MANTLE TALK (C Quilty) steadied off the heels of SUNJOY (K Boxall (a)) at approximately the 800 metres turn.

Rounding the turn at the 800 metres SUNJOY (K Boxall (a)) slipped behind and as a result HILLS OF HOME (S Brazil) had to be checked wider on the track to avoid that mare’s heels.

INLUCK (B McCoull) brushed the running rail at the home turn when LISETTE (S Hamer (a)) was racing tight to his outside.

JUMBURRAN BAY (C Kingston) was held up for a run rounding the home turn.

MOXOON (G Hodges (a)) was momentarily held up for a run at the top of the straight.

Apprentice Kasey Boxall reported that she was taken marginally wider on the track by LISETTE (S Hamer (a)) when rounding the 800 metre turn, and had to steady off the heels of MOXOON (G Hodges (a)).

RACE 4 – TASMANIAN TURF CLUB SIRES PRODUCE 2YO SUPERVOBIS (TAS) PLATE (SW)  – 1400 METRES

CONQUERING (B McCoull) proved difficult to load into the barriers.

AUTUMN SUN (M Ball (a)) blundered at the start and as a result jumped inwards and bumped with MY MISSY ROSE (K Boxall (a)).

SANTORINI SKY (S Maskiell) bumped with MISS GUIDED (T Atkin) on several occasions between the 400 and 500 metres.

Over the concluding stages MISS GUIDED (T Atkin) shifted ground outwards abruptly away from AUTUMN SUN (M Ball (a)) who had layed out, as a result MY MISSY ROSE (K Boxall (a)) was carried wider on the track.

Jockey Maskiell (SANTORINI SKY) stated that the filly was unable to muster early speed and when attempting to improve its position resented the whip.  A post race Veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race TIZ CANNY (Trainer G White).

A post race Veterinary examination of SCRUFFY (Trainer P Luttrell), which tailed the field revealed no obvious abnormalities.  Stewards advised Trainer P Luttrell the SCRUFFY has been stood down to a satisfactory barrier trial.

RACE 5 – ELITE PROTECTIVE SERVICES CLASS 1 HANDICAP  – 1400 METRES

Correct weight was delayed when Jockey L Goodrick (MY BROWN DOG) wished to view the official film in relation to lodging a protest.  After viewing the film, Jockey Goodrick was satisfied and correct weight was declared.

MATTINGLY (G Hodges (a)) had to be steadied off the heels of MY BROWN DOG (L Goodrick) at approximately the 1200 metres.

NORELLA (S Maskiell) was held up for a run in the home straight.

At approximately the 200 metres MATTINGLY (G Hodges (a)) layed inwards carrying MY BROWN DOG (L Goodrick) in, who in turn bumped with NORELLA (S Maskiell).

Apprentice G Hodges (MATTINGLY) was found guilty AR 137 (a) careless riding, in that he allowed his mount to shift ground inwards over the concluding stages when insufficiently clear of NORELLA (S Maskiell) who had to be checked by its rider.  Stewards suspended Apprentice Hodge’s licence to ride in races for a period of 1 race meeting in Tasmania to commence at midnight 20 March until midnight 26 March 2005.

A post race Veterinary examination of ROYAL SNATCH (Trainer T Blacker) revealed no obvious abnormalities.

A post race Veterinary examination of CHU FENG (Trainer J Blacker) revealed this gelding to have pulled up sore in both front legs.  Trainer Blacker was advised that a Veterinary Certificate is required prior to this gelding’s next official trial or race start.

RACE 6 – ALUMINATES CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES HANDICAP– 1100 METRES

SPRING WARRIOR (L Goodrick) was slow into stride.

DRUM TIME (D Pires) and MORNINGTON INN (C Quilty) bumped shortly after the start.

Rounding the turn at the 850 metres BROWNEYED BOY (S Hamer (a)) layed out.

MORNINGTON INN (C Quilty) was inconvenienced and lost its position at the 800 metres when CELTIC FLING (K Boxall (a)) shifted in marginally.

Apprentice S Hamer (BROWNEYED BOY) was found guilty AR 137 (a) careless riding, in that at approximately the 200 metres he allowed his mount to shift ground outwards when insufficiently clear of DRUM TIME (D Pires) resulting in that gelding being carried out and bumping with CELTIC FLING (K Boxall (a)).  Stewards suspended Apprentice Hamer’s licence to ride in races for a period of 2 race meetings in Tasmania to commence at midnight 20 March until midnight 28 March 2005.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race TOTNESS (Trainer J Blacker).

RACE 7 – THE EXAMINER NEWSPAPER CLASS 2 HANDICAP  – 1600 METRES

Pre race swab samples were taken from the following runners - GALAHAD’S GOLD (Trainer Troy Blacker), EXTENDER (Trainer J Green) and BRAGANZA (Trainer G McCulloch).

As the start was affected BRAGANZA (D Pires) jumped inwards onto EXTENDER (J Cameron).

GALAHAD’S GOLD (B McCoull) jumped outwards onto EXTENDER (J Cameron).

EXTENDER (J Cameron) over raced and threw its head in the air at approximately the 1200 metres.

At approximately the 200 metres, LAKE DOUGLAS (S Maskiell) laid in and inconvenienced BRAGANZA (D Pires).

RACE 8 – PROSPECT SELF STORAGE CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1100 METRES

Rounding the home turn LEANNAMAREE (K Boxall (a)) had to be steadied off the heels of LITTLE STUART (C Quilty).

ANDRE THE GIANT (M Ball (a)) layed in in the home straight.

After a disappointing performance Trainer N Richardson advised Stewards that STORMIN’ ABASSI would be leaving his stable.  Stewards will advise Trainer Richardson that STORMIN’ ABASSI would be required to perform a satisfactory trial prior to its next race start.

Stewards spoke to Apprentice G Hodges in that he was unable to claim a portion of his allowance on MOXOON and MATTINGLY.  Apprentice Hodges was reminded of his obligation in that he must claim a portion of his allowance and that if he re-offends, Stewards may take stronger action.
