RACE 1 – MERSEY COMMUNITY HOSPITAL SUPPORT GROUP HANDICAP – 1600 METRES

JONES (B McCoull) reared prior to the start being affected.

Approaching the 150 metres ZEVA ROYALE (S Hamer (a)) shifted in and as a result Apprentice Shaun Hamer was accidentally struck by the whip of Apprentice Marc Ball (SAFIN) who was racing to his inside.

RACE 2 –TIM JEFFRIES SUPERVOBIS (TAS) 2YO MAIDEN PLATE   – 990 METRES

BINALONG BAY (S Brazil) was inconvenienced at the start by ESPARTO (K Dodge), which jumped out, as a result this gelding lost ground.

ISOMORPH (J Nevin) was inconvenienced at the start by SHESADRAMAQUEEN (K Boxall (a)), which jumped in, ISOMORPH then raced greenly in the early stages.

MAMA MIRA (D Oakford) hit the rail approaching the 600 metres.

Jan Cameron (MAE’S PARTY) was reprimanded under AR 137(a) careless riding for allowing her mount to shift in at the 600 metres causing ISOMORPH (J Nevin) to be checked.  In not issuing a more severe penalty Stewards took into account that Jan Cameron had attempted to relieve the pressure on ISOMORPH.

SHESADRAMAQUEEN (K Boxall (a)) raced fiercely in the early stages of the event and had to be continually checked off the heels of the runners in front.  The filly then hung out severely on the home turn and continued to do so in the home straight resulting in the rider being unable to ride her mount out to the finish line.  A post race veterinary examination of SHESADRAMAQUEEN (Trainer – L Porter), revealed no abnormalities. Stewards stood this filly down from racing until it completes a satisfactory trial for its unacceptable racing manners.

Jockey B McCoull reported that AUTUMN SUN brushed the rail on several occasions at approximately the 600 metres.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of this event MUSICOLOGY (Trainer – K Laurence).

RACE 3 –PHILLIP LAMONT MAIDEN PLATE – 1175 METRES

BELLE CLAUSE (D Pires) was slow to begin.

TAL SPRING (S Brazil), which raced in a forward position early in the race, tired over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination, revealed no abnormalities. Stewards issued a warning regarding this gelding’s performance.  Trainer Len Porter advised Stewards on the morning of 28 February 2005 that TAL SPRING had pulled up shin sore and would be spelled. Stewards have ordered this gelding to be inspected by the Veterinary Surgeon prior to its next start.

BELLE CLAUSE (D Pires) shifted out abruptly on the home turn and made contact with MISS QUICKSCORE (R Bradley).

A swab sample was taken from the winner of this event LA VAIN (Trainer – Patricia Quarrell)

RACE 4 – VALE WADE SUPERVOBIS (TAS) 3YO MAIDEN PLATE  – 1175 METRES

Jockey D Pires (HIDDEN FACE) was reprimanded under AR 137(a) careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift in near the 600 metres resulting in INNER CALM (S Brazil) being tightened for racing room between HIDDEN FACE and BOUQUET OF ROSES (S Hamer (a)) which was on the rail.

S Maskiell (FANTA’S RETURN) was found guilty under AR 137(a) careless riding in that approaching the 500 metres he allowed his mount to shift in resulting in BIG CHEESE (J Cameron) being tightened for room and as a result QUESTJON (D Sparks) which was racing on the rail being severely checked and losing its position.  Jockey Maskiell’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of two (2) race dates commencing midnight tonight and expiring at midnight on 13 March 2005.

BIG CHEESE (J Cameron) was held up for a clear run approaching the finish line.

RACE 5 –MEDIBANK PRIVATE CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1380 METRES

MATTINGLY (G Hodges (a)) was slow to begin. When questioned Apprentice Hodges stated that after being slow to begin he did not muster speed early but ran on well in the home straight, until being held up for a clear run over the concluding stages.  Stewards noted Apprentice Hodges’ comments but advised him they expected to see him exercise more initiative and vigor in similar circumstances in future.

B McCoull (GALAHADS GOLD) dropped his whip at approximately the 100 metres.

BEAUCLOU (M Ball (a)) raced fiercely and shifted in near the 1000 metres resulting in NORELLA (S Maskiell) having to be eased to the outside of this horses heels.

MILLIONAIRE MAX (J Nevin), which had led, tired upon entering the home straight.  A post race veterinary examination revealed this gelding to be lame in the near fore leg.  A Veterinary Certificate of soundness is required prior to the gelding racing.

A post race veterinary examination of BELLEEK (Trainer T Roles) revealed an elevated heart rate.  A Veterinary Certificate of soundness will be required prior to the mare racing.

Correct weight was delayed when B McCoull (GALAHADS GOLD) the second placed horse lodged a protest against the winner NORELLA (S Maskiell) alleging interference on four occasions from entering the home straight until approaching the winning post.  After taking evidence from all concerned parties and viewing the official films the protest was upheld as Stewards were of the opinion that the material extent of the interference had been greater than the margin (a short half head) at the end of the race.  Stewards established that on several occasions after entering the home straight NORELLA had shifted in resulting in GALAHADS GOLD being contacted, put off balance and hampered as a result.

Correct weight was again delayed when S Maskiell (NORELLA) lodged a protest against B McCoull (GALAHADS GOLD) alleging interference near the 1000 metres.  After taking evidence from all concerned parties and viewing the official films the protest was withdrawn by S Maskiell.  Correct weight on the amended numbers was then announced.

S Maskiell was issued with a warning regarding his conduct during the protest hearing.

RACE 6 –ROSLYN & CHELSEA HEALEY MAIDEN/CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1600 METRES

The start of this race was delayed due to the protest hearing in the previous race.

The start of this race was again delayed due to HILLTOP SUPREME becoming fractious at the barriers rearing dislodging D Pires and getting loose. Stewards ordered that the filly be a late scratching at 3.59pm.  Stewards ordered that all monies wagered on the horse be refunded in full and betting deductions of 2 cents for a win and 2 cents for a place be made on all other win and place bets.  A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.  Stewards ordered that HILLTOP SUPREME must trial satisfactorily before racing.  Trainer T Roles advised that this mare is to be retired.

LIBERAL LOVER (G Hodges (a)) began awkwardly and lost considerable ground at the start.

SCOTCHIE (J Cameron) over raced approaching the 1200 metres.

MELAMEE (K Boxall a)) and SHE’S WICKED (K Dodge) bumped at the 1000 metres.

RACE 7 – BRONWYN DUDFIELD CLASS 2 HANDICAP  – 1800 METRES

Trainer J Green was charged for the use of the club colours on LADETO.

HOTSHOE (S Hamer (a)) jumped in and inconvenienced SOLIS (J Geard (a)) at the start.

RACE 8 – BEANIE KIDS CLASS 6 – 1175 METRES

CUVIER BAY (L Goodrick) dwelt at the start and lost considerable ground.

Apprentice Marc Ball (ALBRONQUEST) was reprimanded under AR 137 (a) careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift in approaching the finish line resulting in D Pires (PARIS RHYME) having to stop riding.

S Hamer (a) (INVERMAY GIRL) shifted out approaching the winning post inconveniencing BAZZA GOLD (K Dodge).  Apprentice Hamer was advised to exercise more care in future when shifting ground.
