Stewards ordered that pacifiers be removed from all runners

at today’s race meeting due to the HEAVY track rating.

 *          Jockey K Dodge advised Stewards that his car had a puncture en route to the race track, which delayed his arrival for the first race.

**        Jockey S Maskiell advised Stewards that he was feeling ill and would be unable to fulfil his riding engagement in Race 1.  After continued follow-up by the on-course ambulance officers after each race, Jockey Maskiell was declared unfit to fulfil his riding engagements following his ride in Race 6.  Stewards advised Jockey Maskiell that he must present a medical certificate declaring him fit to ride before he resumes riding in track work, trials or races.

RACE 1 –  JOHN DEGRAVES MAIDEN PLATE (3YO & UPWARDS – SET WEIGHTS) - 1400 METRES

Jockey K Bandy tendered a medical certificate of fitness prior to taking his ride in the first race.

As the start was affected, DAALY POWER (B McCoull) jumped inwards and bumped with JUST REMEMBER (K Bandy).  JUST REMEMBER (K Bandy) then jumped inwards and brushed with MISS SEVEN OF NINE (A Keating A).  Apprentice Keating reported that she lost her off-side stirrup iron on jumping, and she was unable to regain her iron until approximately the 1000 metres.

Over the last 150 metres, DUCHESS OF MARL (J Borrett) shifted in abruptly under pressure, resulting in Jockey Borrett having to stop riding and straighten her mount on several occasions.

MISS SEVEN OF NINE (A Keating A) blundered in the going over the concluding stages.

DAALY POWER (B McCoull) jumped a bare patch of turf on the outside of the track adjacent to the winning post.

Stewards questioned Jockey Michaelides (BELLE DA MOUR) as to why he elected to shift ground inwards to the middle of the track at about the 800 metres where, in the opinion of Stewards, the going was not as good as where he was travelling at the time.  Jockey Michaelides stated that the filly was not travelling well and he thought that he was making the right decision by saving some ground and also avoiding some of the heavy clods that were coming back at him.  Stewards noted Jockey Michaelides’ comments.  A post-race veterinary inspection of BELLE DA MOUR (Trainer Charles Pirotta) revealed the filly to have a slow recovery rate.

A post-race swab sample was taken from the winner of the race TARBO (Trainer John Hill).

The on-course ambulance officers examined Jockey S Maskiell and passed him fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements at today’s race meeting.

RACE 2 –     J Z BIDENCOPE CLASS 1 HANDICAP -  1200 METRES

Trainer C Goggin was charged $27.50 for the use of the Club’s colours on STAR PROFILE.

As the start was affected, STAR OF PERSIAN (GB) (M Taylor A) got its head up and jumped awkwardly.

DREWONEE (G Hodges A) blundered as the gates were released.

Approaching the 900 metres, ESTATE KING (R Bradley) shifted out, resulting in AZURE MELODY (S Maskiell) being tightened for racing room.  Jockey Bradley was shown the video of the race and reminded of her obligation to ensure that she gives her fellow riders the racing room they are entitled to.

Over the concluding stages, DREWONEE (G Hodges A) shifted in under pressure carrying WASTED DAZE (K Bandy) inwards resulting in Jockey Bandy having to steady his mount just prior to the finishing line.

After leaving the 450 metres, ESTEREL (S Hamer A) was held up behind runners in front for a number of strides.

TASMAID (R Bradley) appeared to blunder on the home turn and thereafter failed to make ground.  Jockey Bradley reported at scale that she felt there may have been something amiss with the filly.  A post-race veterinary inspection of TASMAID (Trainer Jack Green) failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities with the filly.

IRON CLAUS (S Maskiell) was inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.

On return to scale, Jockey Kingston (XIAO LI) reported that he was disadvantaged by being trapped in the worst part of the track down the back straight and, in his opinion, the filly failed to handle today’s track conditions.

RACE 4 –  SIR JAMES AGNEW - 3YO MAIDEN PLATE SET WEIGHTS – 1200 METRES

ACTIONPACKJACKSON (P Michaelides) was a little slow into stride.

FANTA’S RETURN (S Hamer A) returned to scale with blood in its mouth.  A post-race veterinary inspection revealed that the gelding had bitten itself inside its mouth.

Jockey L Goodrick reported that in her opinion ALIZACK failed to handle today’s heavy track conditions.  A post-race veterinary inspection of ALIZACK revealed the filly to have a minor laceration on the inside of the left hind leg.

The on-course ambulance officers again examined Jockey S Maskiell and passed him fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements at today’s race meeting.

RACE 5 – JOHN LORD CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

Stewards granted permission for Jockey C Kingston to ride CHIEF CITATION one kilo over its allotted weight.

A post-race swab sample was taken from the winner of the race KAY TEE (Trainer Douglas Brazendale).

RACE 6 –   DUNGEON BAR CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

RACE 7 –     ROYAL HOBART BOWLS CLUB HANDICAP – 2400 METRES

The announcement of correct weight was delayed as Jockey D Pires, the rider of the second placegetter BAILEE’S BABE wished to view the official photo-finish image.  After viewing the image, Jockey Pires advised that he was satisfied with the Judge’s decision.

Stewards granted permission for Jockey J Borrett to replace Jockey P Michaelides on STARRED after Jockey Michaelides was found to be overweight.  At a subsequent inquiry, Jockey P Michaelides was fined $100 under AR-120(b).

Stewards granted permission for Jockey S Brazil to replace Jockey S Maskiell on FOLLOW THE BAND after Jockey S Maskiell was declared unfit.

OUR BOY GEORGE (D Pires) was slow to muster early speed.

Rounding the home turn, ASFAHAN (S Hamer A) was held up behind the tiring LADATAC (L Goodrick).
