Stewards accepted Trainer David Brunton’s explanation that he was unable to contact riders for his horse IMAGE CONSCIOUS.

Stewards accepted Trainer G E Blacker’s explanation that he was unable to contact riders for his two horses LONELY SHORE and OCEANO.

Stewards advised Jockey P Crich that he must produce a medical certificate before he resumes riding in trackwork, official trials or races.

RACE 1 – TSUNAMI RED CROSS APPEAL MAIDEN PLATE – 3YO & UPWARDS – SET WEIGHTS 1400 METRES

PERCEPTIVE (N Stanley) jumped awkwardly.

DIPLOMATIC TERTIAN (J Borrett) was slow into stride.

RAMRAIDER (P Michaelides) and KAY TEE (D Oakford) both over-raced in the early stages.

At approximately the 1000 metres, PERCEPTIVE (N Stanley) laid out and carried SUPER POWER (J Cameron) wider.

BOUNDARY ROAD (S Snell) over-raced in the middle stages of the race.

Jockey S Snell (BOUNDARY ROAD) reported at scale that his mount over-raced from the 600 metres until the home turn.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race STAR OF PERSIAN (GB) (Trainer David Brunton).

RACE 2 – TSUNAMI RED CROSS APPEAL MAIDEN PLATE – 3YO & UPWARDS – SET WEIGHTS 1400 METRES

At the start, CHIKKA (E Cassar) jumped outwards and as a result inconvenienced LAURIKAN BAY (P Michaelides) and SHOWER OF RUBIES (J Borrett).

TWOFOLD (N Stanley) jumped out at the start, brushing with FANTA’S RETURN (J Cameron) then shifted in and bumped with PRIMA CAVALLO (M Ball (a)).

LAURIKAN BAY (P Michaelides) and LITTLE SAD (D Oakford) were both a little slow into stride.

PRIMA CAVALLO (M Ball (a)) over-raced and threw its head in the air rounding the 1200 metre turn.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race PETITE OISEAU (Trainer Mark Ganderton).

RACE 3 – BERT WICKS  2-Y-O SUPERVOBIS MAIDEN PLATE – SET WEIGHTS  -  1100 METRES

ESTEREL (J Borrett) was slow into stride.

MY MISSY ROSE (D Oakford) jumped in at the start.

At approximately the 800 metres KARMONITE (S Hamer (a)) laid in.  As a result COSTA DIAMOND (B McCoull) shifted in away from that gelding and momentarily inconvenienced ESTEREL (J Borrett).

WEST SPECTOR (S Snell) hung out in the home straight.

Stewards spoke to Jockey J Borrett (ESTEREL) and reminded her of her obligations in that she must ride her horses out over the concluding stages.

A post-race veterinary inspection of PARLANTI (Trainer Gary White) failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities with the gelding.

A post-race veterinary inspection of BOHEMIAN             (Trainer Charlie Goggin) revealed the filly to have slight shin soreness.  The Club’s veterinary surgeon advised Trainer Goggin to have BOHEMIAN re-examined on Monday.  He also advised Trainer Goggin to spell the filly.

RACE 4 – BUDGET CARPET CHOICE KINGSTON  – CLASS 1 HANDICAP 4-Y-O- & UPWARDS 1200 METRES

Apprentice S Hamer (AL SHIRAZ) was fined $50 under AR 175(k) negligence in that he weighed out without his irons.  Prior to the race he was re-weighed.

FOREVER ROSE (J Borrett) stood flat-footed as the gates opened and missed the start about six lengths.

BOW SHE GOES (K Dodge) was held up at the top of the home straight.

Over the concluding stages, NATIVE PLUME (J Cameron) shifted ground inwards and bumped with MILITIA (K Boxall (a)).  As a result MILITIA shifted ground inwards and brushed with CLAUSE TWO (N Stanley).  Jockey Cameron (NATIVE PLUME) was shown the video and advised that she must straighten her mounts and not allow them to shift in future when insufficiently clear.

The farrier reported that BELLEEK (D Pires) lost its offside hind shoe during the running of this race.

Jockey L Goodrick (EDGED IN RED) reported that her mount wanted to laid out from the 500 metres onwards.

Stewards spoke to Apprentice Jockey M Ball (IMAGE CONSCIOUS) and reminded him of his obligations in that he must ride his horses out over the concluding stages.

RACE 5 – TOTE SPORT RADIO HANDICAP  – 1400 METRES

Stewards questioned Trainer Mr G E Blacker and Jockey S Maskiell on the performance of OCEANO in today’s event.  Trainer Blacker stated that it had been a month between runs and that the filly had suffered minor set-backs during this preparation which may have contributed to today’s performance.  Jockey Maskiell stated that his plan was to follow LONELY SHORE (B McCoull) but when the field quickened at the 700 metres, the filly was left flat-footed and raced flat.  Thereafter when placed under pressure OCEANO failed to run on in her normal manner.  A post-race veterinary inspection of OCEANO failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  Stewards noted their explanations.

RACE 6 – WAKEFUL CLUB SUPERVOBIS 3-Y-O CLASS 6 – 1400 METRES

The start of this race was delayed when ON CURFEW (E Cassar) was a late scratching by order of Stewards on when Jockey E Cassar was examined by the on-course ambulance officers and was not fit to fulfil his engagement.  Prior to the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested on ON CURFEW to be refunded in full and all win and place bets made after the official scratching time of 3.20 pm to be paid less five cents in the dollar on the face of the win ticket and five cents in the dollar on the face value of all place tickets.  Stewards advised Trainer Ian Hay that ON CURFEW has been stood‑down until the filly can pass a barrier jump-out to Stewards’ satisfaction. 

As the start was affected, SHE’LL GET BY (D Pires) jumped in and FUN ALLY (J Cameron) jumped out and brushed with TAXI TOM (J Borrett).

PHARAOH’S DAUGHTER (M Ball (a)) was a little slow to muster early speed.

An inquiry into the reasons why STRATHMORE MAID (K Dodge) was checked and lost its racing position at approximately the 1200 metres, was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

After leaving the 1200 metres, STRATHMORE MAID (K Dodge) had a tendency to over-race.

At about the 800 metres STRATHMORE MAID (K Dodge) shifted out abruptly and made contact with NO LAUGHING MATTER (L Goodrick) resulting in that filly having to be checked by its rider to avoid heels.

Rounding the home turn STRATHMORE MAID (K Dodge) shifted out resulting in NO LAUGHING MATTER (L Goodrick) having to steady off that filly’s heels.

Jockey J Cameron (FUN ALLY) reported that her saddle slipped during the running of this race.

RACE 7 – SIR TRISTRAM TROPHY  3-Y-O  SET WEIGHTS + PENALTIES – NO CLAIMS 1600 METRES

Jockey E Cassar (VISCOUNT CAMERON) was re-examined by ambulance officers and passed fit to ride.

The Club’s veterinary surgeon inspected MY UNCLE TED (M Ball (a)) prior to the start and passed the gelding fit to take its place with the field.  However, the start of this race was delayed 4 minutes due to the saddle breaking when MY UNCLE TED fell in its race-day stall and the jockey had to re-weigh and the saddle had to be replaced.

SENSATIONAL JACK (J Cameron) was slow into stride.

VISCOUNT CAMERON (E Cassar), STUYVESANT (S Maskiell) and BRAEQUEST (N Stanley) over‑raced in the early stages.

Rounding the turn at the 1400 metres, BRAEQUEST (N Stanley) shifted out, carrying STEAMBOAT ROCK (J Borrett) wider on the track.

STEAMBOAT ROCK (J Borrett) laid in in the home straight.

On return to scale, Jockey B McCoull reported that MAGGIE BEE was disappointing in today’s race.  A post-race veterinary inspection of MAGGIE BEE (Trainer Charlie Goggin) failed to reveal any abnormalities with the filly.

A post-race veterinary inspection of MY UNCLE TED (Trainer Gary White) failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race BAILEE’S BABE (Trainer John Luttrell).

RACE 8 – CHEAPER FURNITURE SUMMER CUP HANDICAP – 2100 METRES

The start of this race was delayed when KRAVITZ (N Stanley) was a late scratching after Jockey Stanley injured his leg after being dislodged from KRAVITZ behind the barriers.   Prior to the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested on KRAVITZ to be refunded in full and all win and place bets made after the official scratching time of 4.30 pm to be paid less fifteen cents in the dollar on the face of the win ticket and fifteen cents in the dollar on the face value of all place tickets. 

As the start was affected, RILEY REDWING (S Hamer (a)) reared.

MAN IN BLACK (J Cameron) jumped awkwardly.

BLACK LIGHT (K Boxall (a)) jumped awkwardly and shifted out, tightening HEARTLESS (J Borrett) out on to SANCHEZ (R Bradley) who shifted in marginally.

OUR DASHING DANE (E Cassar) over-raced in the early stages and had to be steadied off the heels of BRAINPOWER (B McCoull) after leaving the crossing at the 700 metres.

At about the 300 metres, OUR DASHING DANE (E Cassar) was momentarily tightened when BLACK LIGHT (K Boxall (a)) shifted ground inwards.

At about the 200 metres, CHARZARD (D Pires) shifted ground inwards resulting in Jockey Pires having to stop riding and straighten his mount.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race CHARZARD (Trainer John Luttrell).

RACE 9  - TASMANIAN JOCKEYS’ ASSOCIATION CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

Trainer Mr Charlie Goggin advised Stewards that LULUANNA was a late scratching due to injuring herself in the float before arriving at the race track. He also reported that the mare is currently in season.  Stewards advised Trainer Goggin that he must tender a veterinary certificate for LULUANNA before the mare starts in a trial or race.

ANDRE THE GIANT (E Cassar) jumped in and made contact with MATSERATI (J Borrett) at the start.

After leaving the 1300 metres, CELTIC FLING (L Goodrick) shifted out and made contact with CORINDHAP (K Dodge).

ANDRE THE GIANT (E Cassar) over-raced in the early and middle stages of the race.

ALVA (D Pires) laid in over the concluding stages.

CATBOY (NZ) (S Snell) laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.

MANCHA (S Maskiell) was eased out of the race over the concluding stages as the gelding had bled from both nostrils.  Trainer G White was advised of the provisions of AR 53A in that as this was the first occasion MANCHA had bled, the gelding will be stood down for a period of three months following which MANCHA must gallop over a distance of 1000 metres in the presence of a Steward.

GENERAL

Stewards spoke to Trainer Mr P Daly and Trainer Mr John Luttrell about their behaviour whilst at today’s races and advised them in the strongest possible terms that they must conduct themselves in a professional way at all times.

Jockey Stephen Maskiell was found guilty under AR 87B in that he used a vest that did not conform with the relevant standards prescribed by the Board.  Acting under AR 87C was fined $250.

Jockey Stephen Maskiell was found guilty under AR 83(a) misconduct in that he used abusive language towards a Steward who was attending to his duties as directed by the Chairman of Stewards in the Jockey’s room and then continued to act in an unacceptable manner in the scales area.  Jockey Maskiell was fined $500.
