RACE 1 – FIELDWICKS MAIDEN PLATE– 1800 METRES – 9 RUNNERS

Following an injury at Elwick on 24 November 2002, Jockey Mr Mark Goring was examined by the on course paramedics and passed fit to ride at today’s meeting.

Trainer Mr R Carr was fined the sum of $10 for use of the Club colours on RAILTON.

As the start was effected TOLDO (NZ) (Leah Goodrick) jumped outwards as POWER OF PETITE (John Robertson (a)) jumped inwards. As a result RUN FOR MITCH (David Pires (a)) was tightened and lost ground as a consequence.

RIENOD (Phil Michaelides) and DALWINA (Shane Quilty) were both inclined to over- race in the early stages.

At approximately the 200 metre mark RAILTON (Simon Snell), when under pressure, was inclined to shift ground in wards and in doing so momentarily hampered RUN FOR MITCH (David Pires (a)).

Over the concluding stages POWER OF PETITE ((John Robertson (a)) was inclined to lay in on a number of occasions, resulting in Mr Robertson having to stop riding and straighten his mount. As a result SWEET MAMA (Jodi Borrett) was hampered.

Stewards queried Jockey Mr Phil Michaelides ((RIENOD) with regard to this gelding’s apparent disappointing performance. Mr Michaelides stated that in his opinion RIENOD was inclined to over-race in the early stages and when placed under pressure failed to respond. Stewards ordered a veterinary inspection of the RIENOD, which revealed that the gelding blew significantly but there was no other abnormality.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race, DALWINA, (Trainer Mr Leon Wells).

RACE 2 –SPREYTON PARK FUNCTION CENTRE –SUPERVOBIS THREE YEARS OLD MAIDEN PLATE – 1175 METRES – 14 RUNNERS

As the start was effected KENTUCKY BOURBON (Simon Snell) jumped outwards on to NICANOVA (David Pires (a)). As a result NICANOVA was inconvenienced.

TERVORT (Stan Tsaikos) was slow to begin and slow into stride thereafter.

At approximately the 800 metres BLUE LANI (Brendon McCoull), who was inclined to race greenly, shifted in abruptly, making contact with OUR GIRL THROB (Shane Quilty). As a result OUR GIRL THROB had to be steadied by its rider. Simultaneously WRAP IT UP (Kevin Dodge) and NICANOVA (David Pires (a)) bumped, on a number of occasions.

Approaching the 600 metre mark WRAP IT UP (Kevin Dodge) and NICANOVA (David Pires (a)) made contact again, resulting in NICANOVA becoming unbalanced for a number of strides. As a result BLUE LANI (Brendon McCoull), EILY’S LASS (Phil Michaelides) and TERVORT (Stan Tsaikos) were carried wider on the track.

Stewards enquired into an incident rounding the home turn when NICANOVA (David Pires (a)), racing on the rails, was checked by its rider. Upon enquiry, it was established that KENTUCKY BOURBON (Simon Snell) shifted out approximately half a horse and PRINCE RAFTER (Mark Goring), which was following, attempted a run to the inside of this gelding. Shortly thereafter KENTUCKY BOURBON shifted back in towards the rail, carrying PRINCE RAFTER in on to NICANOVA. In all circumstances, stewards could not attribute blame to any one rider, however, Mr Snell was advised, in the strongest terms, that he is to ensure, when shifting ground in future, he is sufficiently clear. Mr Goring was advised, in the strongest terms, that he must ensure, when attempting a run, there is sufficient room to do so. In arriving at their decision, stewards took into account that Mr Pires stated his mount, throughout the run, was reluctant to race inside runners and in his opinion this may have been caused by the addition of blinkers for the first time.

TERVORT (Stan Tsaikos) was inclined to race greenly throughout.

RACE 3 – GUINOT PARIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1175 METRES – 14 RUNNERS

COBBERSHINE (Mark Goring) was slow to begin, losing five lengths.

Rounding the home turn COUNTESS SOPHIE (Sandra McFerran) was held up for a clear run, behind the tiring GLEN IRIS LAD (Mark Goring).

JAMAICAN MONEY (David Pires (a)) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight, resulting in Mr Pires having to stop riding and straighten his mount on at least two occasions.

After the event stewards ordered a veterinary inspection of CHOKITO, which revealed no abnormalities.

Stewards queried Mr Kelvin Sanderson, the rider of BEAN STALKER, with regard to his lack of whip use over the concluding stages. Mr Sanderson stated that on previous occasions when under the whip, BEAN STALKER had a tendency to become unbalanced, however, under strong hands and heels riding, the gelding, in his opinion, races truly. Stewards noted his explanation.

RACE 5 – BIRDCAGE TAVERN HANDICAP – 1600 METRES – 8 RUNNERS

NAUCHO (Mark Goring) was slow to muster early speed.

At approximately the 600 metre mark TUZLA (John Robertson (a)) had to be momentarily restrained off the heels of BUNDALAGUAH (Shane Quilty) when this gelding shifted in slightly.

WOBBLEY (Phil Michaelides) raced wide throughout.

After the race Apprentice Mr David Pires, the rider of MISLAID, was reprimanded, under A.R. 137 (a)), when, at the winning post on the first occasion, he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of TUZLA (John Robertson (a)), causing this gelding to be checked in over the heels of BUNDALAGUAH (Shane Quilty).

At approximately the 600 metre mark OUR ENTOURAGE (Sandra McFerran) and GRIGIO (Simon Snell) bumped.

Rounding the home turn FLY TIME (Brendon McCoull) shifted ground inwards when under pressure, causing LITTLE EM (Shane Quilty) to be steadied for a number of strides.

RACE 7 – DEMON DRIVELINES CLASS 6 HANDICAP – 1175 METRES – 10 RUNNERS

The race book information was incorrect with regard to GREY WOLF’s colours, when in fact the gelding races in white, pink diamond, armbands and cap. A public announcement was made to this effect.

GREY WOLF (Kelvin Sanderson) blundered shortly after the start.

Racing down the back straight WEST QUEST BOY (Jodi Borrett) was inclined to lay outwards.

MONDI (Ken Lewis) was held up for a clear run rounding the home turn behind SUPER CLASSIC (Leah Goodrick)

MONDI (Ken Lewis) and GOODNIK (Brendon McCoull) were both inclined to hang in in the run down the home straight.

FOUND EAST (Mark Goring) made the crossing at approximately the 220 metre mark awkwardly

After the event Mr Mark Goring, the rider of FOUND EAST, stated he was of the opinion there may have been something amiss with this gelding so therefore eased his mount down over the concluding stages. A veterinary examination of FOUND EAST

revealed the gelding blew excessively and had a poor recovery rate. The veterinary surgeon was suspicious the gelding may have choked down.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race, DRAGILA, (Trainer Mr Ian Hay).

RACE 8 – SPREYTON BUTCHERY CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1380 METRES – 10 RUNNERS

EL DOC (Leah Goodrick) and TORRIANN (John Robertson (a)) were a fraction slow to begin.

TORRIANN (John Robertson (a)) was inclined to over-race in the early stages.

DINKUM JACK (Sandra McFerran) was inclined to race a little ungenerously in the middle stages.

After the event Mr Brendon McCoull, the rider of TRUST FUND, stated, in his opinion, this gelding had knocked up and he therefore did not ride his mount out in his usual manner. A veterinary inspection of TRUST FUND revealed the horse blew significantly and recovered slower than expected. There were no further abnormalities detected.
