Emergency gained a start

*Apprentice G Hodges’ gear did not arrive by airfreight. Stewards accepted Apprentice Hodges explanation.

RACE 1 – SKYY BLUE LADIES DAY MAIDEN PLATE  (3YO&UP SW DIV 1) – 1100 METRES

Jockey L Goodrick was fined $25.00 under AR 175 (k) for negligence, in presenting in the mounting yard in the incorrect colours.

HERMEKA (G Murphy) was a little slow into stride and over raced in the middle stages of the event.

GARLAND GREY (C Lindop) raced wide throughout.

INCHCAPE (B McCoull) was held up rounding the home turn.

ROYAL SNATCH (S Snell) raced greenly in the home straight.

A post race Veterinary examination of LA VAIN (Trainer P Quarrell) revealed this mare to have scalped the off hind coronet in running.

RACE 2 – AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER MAIDEN PLATE (3YO&UP SW DIV 2) – 1100 METRES

ANDAMAN SEA was a late scratching at 9.52am by order of Stewards, when Trainer T Blacker advised Stewards that the filly had an elevated temperature.  Trainer Blacker was advised that a Veterinary certificate is required prior to this filly’s next official trial or race start.

Stewards gave permission for Jockey S Maskiell to replace Apprentice G Hodges as rider of BELLO MANFREDI as no Apprentice was available.

The start of this race was delayed for 4 minutes due to the saddle of INNER CALM (S Brazil) having to be re-weighed.

FULL VELOCITY (K Dodge) raced greenly throughout 

GRASJAR (K Bandy) jumped awkwardly and as a result lost several lengths.

POSH AND PUSHY (D Pires) was slow into stride and lost several lengths.

GALAHAD’S GOLD (K Boxall (a)) laid in at the 800 metres and momentarily inconvenienced GRASJAR (K Bandy).

LITTLE ROBO (B McCoull) hung out rounding the turn at the 700 metres and bumped with MOLLYO (M Ball (a)).

At the 400 metres FULL VELOCITY (K Dodge) laid in and momentarily inconvenienced GRASJAR (K Bandy).

Rounding the home turn FULL VELOCITY (K Dodge) shifted wider on the track to obtain a clear run and as a result carried MOLLYO (M Ball (a)) out onto SQUAIR (J Cameron), who at that stage had layed in, placing that filly awkwardly onto the heels of MOLLYO.

GALAHAD’S GOLD (K Boxall (a)) layed in over the concluding stages.

RACE 3 – FASHIONS FOR FILLIES 2YO HANDICAP – 1100 METRES

The start of this race was delayed when SALVATION JANE (D Yendall) proved difficult to load.

SALVATION JANE (D Yendall) was slow into stride.

Jockey D Yendall (SALVATION JANE) accidentally dropped his whip at the 600 metres.

KOSTA DIAMOND (S Maskiell) hung in throughout.

RACE 4 – THE EXAMINER CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 2100 METRES

DEMKE (J Cameron) was slow into stride.

FATHER PATRICK (D Pires) was slow away.

FATHER PATRICK (D Pires) hung out from the 1200 to the 800 metres.

BIG WES (Goodrick) laid in from the 500 metres.

Jockey S Gates was found guilty under AR 137 (a) careless riding in that at approximately the 1850 metres he allowed CZAR RULE to shift ground inwards when insufficiently clear of ALL GEARD UP (K Dodge), carrying that horse inwards before being checked by its rider, as a result JAMIROQUAI (C Lindop) shifted in onto ROSE GIRL (K Boxall (a)), resulting in GORDON HIGHLANDER (S Maskiell) who was racing to that mare’s inside being hampered.  Jockey Gates’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 3 race meetings in Tasmania to commence midnight 23 January 2005 and expire midnight 6 February 2005.

RACE 5 – TTC LIFE MEMBERS CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1600 METRES

SKIPPYANDERIC (L Goodrick) was fractious in the barrier, was examined pre race and found fit to take its place in the field, and was then slow into stride.

Rounding the home turn BEN BOWYANG (J Borrett) was held up behind the tiring SOLIS (D Sparks).

RACE 6 – THE GOVERNOR’S PLATE (Handicap) – 1200 METRES

Prior to leaving the mounting yard it was established that the weight of the rider of WILD RAPID (K Boxall (a)) was less than the required minimum, as a result Stewards directed that she re-weigh for this race.  At inquiry it was established that the Clerk of Scales had informed Apprentice Boxall of the weight that should be carried, which was incorrect.  Stewards found Clerk of Scales, L McGurk, had been negligent in his duty and that in future he was to take far greater care when weighing riders out.  Apprentice Boxall was informed that it is also her responsibility to make sure she carries the correct weight.

CATBOY (NZ) (B McCoull) jumped out at the start as a result DRUM TIME (D Pires) had to be steadied by its rider.

KAT’S CLAUSE (S Snell) was fractious in the barriers and jumped out at the start.

Jockey S Snell (KATS CLAUSE) was reprimanded under AR 137 (a) careless riding in that at approximately the 1000 metres he shifted ground inwards and momentarily inconvenienced BROWNEYED BOY (S Maskiell) onto WILD RAPID (K Boxall (a)).  As a result Jockey Maskiell had to steady his mount.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race PERSONAL PEAK  (Trainer C Goggin).

RACE 7 – QUEEN’S CUP (Group 3 Quality Hcp)  – 2100 METRES

Pre race swab samples were taken from the following runners:  DAKASHA (Trainer L Macdonald), ALMOST SPRING (Trainer T Roles), SKI STAR (Trainer L Wells), BAY RITZ (Trainer D Brunton), WARPED (Trainer M Trinder) and WEST HIGHLAND WAY (Trainer C Goggin).

BRAINPOWER (Trainer T Young) underwent a pre race Veterinary examination after the gelding got down in the float on the way to the track.  No obvious abnormalities were revealed and BRAINPOWER was found fit to take its place in the field.

Jockey Shane Gates (BRAINPOWER) was reprimanded under AR 137 (a) careless riding in that shortly after the start he allowed his mount to shift in inconveniencing WARPED (K Dodge). Shortly thereafter SPEECHMAKER (S Snell) shifted across in front of WARPED, who then began to over race, shifted in and bumped with DAKASHA (C Lindop) and as a result DAKASHA over raced and had to shift out over the heels of BRAINPOWER

Rounding the home turn SPEECHMAKER (S Snell) who was making ground to the outside of WARPED (K Dodge) rolled in marginally resulting in DAKASHA (C Lindop) having to be steadied by its rider.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race MIDNIGHT ESCAPADE (Trainer C Goggin).

RACE 8 – THE MALUA CLUB STAKES (Class 6 Handicap) – 1600 METRES

DRAGON SPIRIT (K Dodge) was unable to muster early speed.

LORD DANZERO (D Pires) over raced in the middle stages of the event.

STORM YACHT (D Yendall) raced three wide for the majority of the event.

Jockey D Pires (LORD DANZERO) accidentally dropped his whip at the 150 metres.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race ZEVA ROYALE (Trainer J Blacker).

RACE 9 – SOUTHERN CROSS CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

TURNING RED (L Goodrick) jumped out at the start as a result LIGHT RANK (D Yendall) was tightened out onto and bumped with MAGIC LIFE (P Michaelides) resulting in LIGHT RANK losing some ground.

 

CIVIC ART (K Bandy) jumped in the air at the start.

 

MAGIC LIFE (P Michaelides) pulled hard in the early stages of the event.

 

BAY ALI  (S Maskiell) over raced in the early stages of the event.

Apprentice Marc Ball (DESIGN ACADEMY) was reprimanded under AR 137 (a) careless riding in that he shifted ground outwards, bumped and carried EL CABAL (S Hamer (a)) out.  Apprentice Shaun Hamer (EL CABAL) was reprimanded under AR 137 (a) careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift ground outwards tightening TURNING RED (L Goodrick) out onto and bumping with TALK OF A STAR (P Crich) before he obtained pressure from DESIGN ACADEMY (M Ball (a)) on his inside at approximately the 300 metres.

Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the riding tactics of Apprentice Shaun Hamer (MR SOHO) at the Tasmanian Racing Club meeting on 16 January 2005 – Race 5 – TOTE Sport Radio Handicap as his master, Trainer Barry Campbell, was not available to attend.
