Jockey McCoull (KING’S SCHOLAR) stated that he was disappointed with the colt’s performance today.  A post-race veterinary inspection failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

RACE 2 – SKYY BLUE MAIDEN PLATE – 3YO & UPWARDS – SET WEIGHTS  -  DIVISION 1  1400 METRES

BILL’S REWARD (M Ball (a)) jumped out at the start.  As a result KAY TEE (D Oakford), BURNT BACK (P Michaelides) and MAGIC LAUGHTER (R Bradley) were all inconvenienced.

At approximately the 1000 metres, KAY TEE (D Oakford) shifted ground outwards and bumped with SONAR EXPRESS (K Dodge).

BILL’S REWARD (M Ball (a)) and BURNT BACK (P Michaelides) were inclined to over-race in the early and middle stages of the event.

At approximately the 750 metres MATTINGLY (B McCoull) shifted ground inwards marginally.  As a result the gelding momentarily inconvenienced NILE PRINCESS (D Pires).

Rounding the home turn, NILE PRINCESS (D Pires) when ridden out to obtain a clear run, over-reacted and shifted ground outwards more than necessary.  As a result BILL’S REWARD (M Ball (a)) was carried wider on the track.

At approximately the 250 metres, MAGIC LAUGHTER (R Bradley) shifted outwards.  As a result DARK EMBRACE (J Cameron) was carried wider on the track and bumped with DIPLOMATIC TERTIAN (J Borrett).

At the 200 metres, LEX LOCI (E Brennan (a)) laid out under pressure and momentarily inconvenienced BURNT BACK (P Michaelides).

MATTINGLY (B McCoull) was disappointed for a run when the gap closed between LEX LOCI (E Brennan (a)) and POSH AND PUSHY (D Yendall) over the concluding stages.

A swab sample was taken from the winner SONAR EXPRESS (Trainer Peter Luttrell).

RACE 3 – VANTAGE HOTEL GROUP MAIDEN PLATE – 3YO & UPWARDS –  DIVISION 2  SET WEIGHTS  -  1400 METRES

QUEEN OF DENMARK   (B McCoull) proved a little difficult to load into its barrier stall, which slightly delayed the start of this race.

At the start, NIGHT FIGHTER (J Cameron) jumped inwards and at the same time COOL ADDICTION (P Michaelides) jumped outwards resulting in MYSTIC MILLIE (T Atkin) becoming crowded.   COOL ADDICTION (P Michaelides) over-raced near the 1000 metres.

Approaching the 900 metres, BIG CHEESE (K Dodge) rolled outwards resulting in MELAMEE (D Pires) being taken wider on the track.

SUPER SCAY (S Hamer (a)) laid in over the concluding stages of the race.

QUEEN OF DENMARK (Brendon McCoull) cast a near side fore plate in running.

RACE 4 – PETER BAKOS MEMORIAL CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1100 METRES

FOREST PEAK (B McCoull) was inclined to over-race in the early and middle stages of the event.

Apprentice E Brennen (UNTIL SUNDOWN) pleaded guilty to under AR 137(a) careless riding in that at approximately the 200 metres, he allowed his mount to shift ground outwards when insufficiently clear of MORSONIQUE (S Hamer (a)) resulting in that horse being carried out on to NURSE SUZI (M Ball (a)) who lost its position and had to be checked.   Apprentice Brennen’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of two race meetings from midnight 30 January 2005 and expiring midnight 12 February 2005.

FOREST PEAK (B McCoull) laid out under pressure approaching the winning post.

Approaching the 250 metres, RAHIRI (J Cameron) shifted wider on the track and bumped with BOMBAY BOY (S Snell).  BOMBAY BOY then shifted outwards and brushed with MAN IN BLACK (L Goodrick).

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race RILEY REDWING (Trainer Royston Carr).

RACE 6 – WREST POINT 1000 GUINEAS 3YO FILLIES – SET WEIGHTS – NO CLAIMS – LISTED 1600 METRES

The Club’s veterinary surgeon inspected NO LAUGHING MATTER prior to the start after the filly was kicked behind the barriers.  The filly was passed fit to take its place with the field.

PHARAOH’S DAUGHTER (M Ball (a)) made the turn at the 1200 metres awkwardly and shifted ground outwards.  As a result the filly carried GALLETA (J Holder) out resulting in MAGGIE BEE (B McCoull) and STRATHMORE MAID (J Cameron) being tightened and MADAM MASQUE (D Oakford) having to be checked off the heels of OCEANO (S Maskiell).

Shortly thereafter, NOTHIN’ LIKE MARY (K Sanderson) had to be steadied off the heels of GALLETA (J Holder) who was carried in momentarily by OCEANO (S Maskiell).

At approximately the 1000 metres, STRATHMORE MAID (J Cameron) laid out and carried NO LAUGHING MATTER (L Goodrick) wider on the track.

At about the 700 metres, WEASEL WAV (E Brennen (a)) rolled off the rail and bumped with OCEANO (S Maskiell).  Apprentice Brennen was shown the film and reminded of his obligations when allowing his mounts to shift ground in future.

A post-race veterinary inspection of MADAM MASQUE (Trainer John Luttrell) revealed the filly had been galloped on down the inside of her left hind leg.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race PETITE OISEAU (Trainer Mark Ganderton).

Following the running of this race, Jockey K Sanderson was examined by the Club’s medical officer and subsequently stood down from his remaining riding engagements due to tachycardia.  Stewards advised Jockey K Sanderson that he must produce a medical certificate before he resumes riding in trackwork, official trials or races.

RACE 7 – MOORILLA HOBART GUINEAS – 3YO – SET WEIGHTS – NO CLAIMS – LISTED  1600 METRES

The Club’s veterinary surgeon inspected SHINING STORM prior to the start and passed the gelding fit to take its place with the field.

The start of this race was delayed when VISCOUNT CAMERON (D Pires) refused to go to the barriers and as a result the Clerk of the Course had to return to the home turn and lead the gelding to the barriers.

At about the 1400 metres, SHINING STORM (L Nolen) laid in.

At about the 400 metres, TWICE THE VALUE (S Snell) steadied off the heels of the tiring YOMEE (C Kingston).  As a result STUYVESANT (S Maskiell) had to check out wider to avoid heels.

RACE 9 – GET YOUR HEART PUMPING AT THE TOTE CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

The race-book incorrectly showed IRISH JOKER (Trainer Darrel Carr) as winning on 5 December 2004 when in fact, the gelding had been subsequently disqualified from its event.

At the start ANDRE THE GIANT (M Ball (a)) jumped outwards as LULUANNA (S Maskiell) jumped in resulting in INASNIP (S Snell) and CELTIC FLING (D Yendall) being crowded.  As a result, CELTIC FLING lost some ground.

At about the 900 metres, Jockey S Maskiell (LULUANNA) shifted ground inwards to avoid the heels of INASNIP (S Snell) who was racing forward and to his outside and in doing so shifted in abruptly and bumped with LIGHT SQUALL (J Borrett).  As a result LIGHT SQUALL threw its head in the air, shifted out and bumped with LULUANNA (S Maskiell).  No direct action was taken against any one rider as Stewards believe INASNIP was marginally clear when shifting ground inwards. However, LULUANNA commenced to over-race at that point and had to be steadied in over the heels of INASNIP.

IRISH JOKER (C Kingston) was placed awkwardly on the heels of CHIEF CITATION (S Tsaikos) approaching the 600 metres.

At approximately the 100 metres, CORINDHAP (S Hamer (a)) laid in, placing its rider at a disadvantage.

STRATHMORE LUCK (E Brennen (a)) laid in in the home straight.

Over the concluding stages, INASNIP (S Snell) had to be momentarily steadied by its rider when HAIL THE GANG (T Atkin) laid in.
