RACE 1 – JOHN MOLES MAIDEN PLATE– 1550 METRES - 12 RUNNERS

HAVANA BAY (S Snell), THE SCOUSE DEVIL (B McCoull) and DARING QUEST (C Burt) were slow into stride.

The saddle slipped forward on AUSTRALIA (R Bradley (a)) shortly after the start, which placed apprentice R Bradley (a) at a disadvantage throughout the event.

DELTA ROMEO (M Hart (a)) and BLUE LANI (S Maskiell) over-raced in the early stages of the event.

Rounding the turn at the 1200 metre mark THE SCOUSE DEVIL (B McCoull) shifted out and contacted with HAVANA BAY (S Snell).

Jockey C Kingston the rider of BE WHY OH was questioned regarding this horses performance in today’s event. Jockey Kingston stated that he was instructed to ride this gelding forward if possible. He further stated that the horse started fairly, however given his wide barrier draw he was unable to obtain a handy position. When asked as to why he did not encourage his mount with the whip shortly after leaving the barrier gates, he stated that in his opinion he would have been trapped wider than he wanted to be. He also stated that the horse travelled well within himself until climbing the hill whereafter he was disappointing and failed to finish his race off and did not work home as he did in his previous start. Jockey Kingston was also of the opinion that BE WHY OH was more focused in the early stages of the event and that this was possibly due to the fact that he raced with blinkers on for the first time. Stewards noted his explanation.

A post race veterinary examination of BE WHY OH failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

A post race veterinary examination of THE SCOUSE DEVIL failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

ROSEBUD ROSE (P Michaelides) stumbled at about the 500-metre mark.

Jockey L Goodrick (QUEST FOR ILLUSION) was questioned regarding the performance of this mare in today’s event. She stated that the horse was reluctant to load into its barrier stall, then jumped fairly and after pushing forward to obtain a handy position was unable to get there. The mare then continued to lose its position and did not respond to her riding. Stewards noted her explanation.

A post race veterinary examination of QUEST FOR ILLUSION (L Goodrick) failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

MILITIA (E Chan (a)) and STAR FLIGHT (T Atkin) came together at the start, and RUNALOT (C Burt) also jumped out and made contact with SUNSTAR (M Allen (a))

STAR FLIGHT (T Atkin) was slow to muster early speed and trailed the field, thereafter made up some ground in the home straight.

Jockey B McCoull (BORN TO HUSTLE) was questioned regarding his riding over the concluding stages of the race. Jockey McCoull stated that when placed under pressure rounding the home turn the gelding lost some two (2) to three (3) lengths on the leaders and thereafter made up some ground in the straight before becoming one paced. When questioned about his vigour over the concluding stages he stated that as this horse is thin skinned he used the whip sparingly and added that he was unable to ride with his normal vigour due to this horses high head carriage.
