RACE 1 – SP8 EQUINE FUEL HURDLE – 2850 METRES

 

FLY GEORGIE was incorrectly shown in the race book as not wearing blinkers, an announcement was made to this affect.

 

WARPED (Adam Trinder) stumbled as the barriers were released.

 

Racing to the second hurdle in the back straight on the first occasion FLY GEORGIE (Patrick Purcell) struck the hurdle.  As a result the jockey was dislodged.  Patrick Purcell was examined by the ambulance officers and found to have sustained no injury.

 

On jumping the second last hurdle BIG WES (Kim Whelan) stumbled and lost a little ground.

 

A post race veterinary examination of WARPED (Trainer Michael Trinder) revealed the gelding had cast its off fore show in running.

 

A post race veterinary examination of KING CANALA (NZ) (Trainer Catherine Jordan) revealed the gelding has a small skin abrasion to the near hind heel which was of no significance.

 

All other horses were examined by the veterinary surgeon and no abnormalities were detected.

 

RACE 2 –SHAWAR PARK FARM CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1800 METRES

 

BORN A QUEEN (Kasey Boxall (a)) was fractious in the barrier.

 

BLADE STAR (Kane Bandy) was slow into stride.

 

At approximately the 1500 metres BORN A QUEEN (Kasey Boxall (a)) began to over race and was awkwardly placed on the heels of BLADE STAR (Kane Bandy), which had shifted ground inwards.

 

Racing out of the front straight on the first occasion CHARLIE RAAMI (Simon Snell) began to over race and then at approximately the 1100 metres had to be steadied off the heels of FREEDOM MIST (David Pires).

 

On the home turn CHATSWORTH (NZ) (Stephen Maskiell) was carried wider on the track when BORN A QUEEN (Kasey Boxall (a)) shifted ground outwards to obtain a clear run.  CHATWORTH (NZ) layed in in the home straight and had to be straightened on several occasions by its rider.

 

FREEDOM MIST (David Pires) layed in in the home straight and had to be straightened by its rider on several occasions.

 

The winner of the race ALL POINTS WEST (Trainer Michael Trinder) was swabbed.

 

RACE 3 – G A (JOE) MASON MEMORIAL 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 990 METRES

 

The start of this race was delayed when TROUNSER (Kane Bandy) proved very difficult to load.  TROUNSER will be stood down until he can barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards.  Following the event Stewards spoke to Jockey Kane Bandy about the way that he addresses staff at the barriers and in future stronger action will be taken.

 

At approximately the 600 metres HILDAGO (Shaun Hamer (a)) began to over race, was awkwardly placed on the heels of runners in front before hanging out and as a result carried MY MISSY ROSE (Daniel Oakford) outwards inconveniencing that filly onto ARIA QUEST (Dean Yendall) who was also inconvenienced.

 

MAE’S PARTY (Stephen Maskiell) hung in in the home straight and momentarily inconvenienced MAKEVINA (David Pires) who then continued to hang in.

 

Correct weight was delayed when the rider of the second placed horse Brendon McCoull (DARCENELL) wished to view the official photo.  After a lengthy delay Jockey McCoull was satisfied with the photo and correct weight was given.

 

RACE 4 – A J & MRS N SKIRVING MEMORIAL MAIDEN PLATE – 1175 METRES

 

The start of this race was delayed two (2) minutes when Caulfield Race 4 was delayed.

 

BUILTH WELLS (Phil Michaelides) over raced at the 900 metres and threw its head in the air.

 

Approaching the 600 metres GODDELL (Jodi Borrett) hung out.

 

BUILTH WELLS (Phil Michaelides) was inconvenienced behind the tiring IAM IAM (Jan Cameron) rounding the home turn.

 

Kane Bandy (MERCER MILL) was reprimanded under AR 144 in that he failed to weigh in after running fifth.

 

The winner of the race CHRONOMETER (Trainer Barry Campbell) was swabbed.

 

RACE 5 – ATKINSON GIBSON MAIDEN/CLASS 1 PLATE – 1600 METRES

 

At the start LIBERAL LOVER (Marc Ball (a)) jumped outwards onto ODE TO MAREE (Dean Yendall) carrying that horse out.  At the same time MAGYEJO (Kevin Dodge) jumped inwards and as a result MERRY MISCHIEF (Brendon McCoull) was checked.

 

WINDY NIGHT (Phil Michaelides) jumped out at the start and bumped with GENERAL ZOOM (Simon Snell).

 

SPECIAL HONEY (Jodi Borrett) was held up rounding the home turn behind the tiring RAMRAIDER (Jan Cameron).

 

In the home straight SHE’S WICKED (Phillip Crich) was inconvenienced when ODE TO MAREE (Dean Yendall) shifted ground outwards as WINDY NIGHT (Phil Michaelides) layed in.

 

I’M A BANDIT (David Pires) and MALI JURAJ (NZ) (Stephen Maskiell) bumped over the concluding stages.

 

GENERAL ZOOM (Simon Snell) raced green in the home straight and bumped with MUI’S PRIDE (Shannon Brazil) before laying out just prior to the line.  As a result OUT OF SYNC (Leah Goodrick) had to be momentarily steadied.

 

RACE 6 – SHAW CONTRACTING SHEFFIELD CUP – 1800 METRES

 

KRAVITZ was shown in the race book with no rider when in fact the rider was Apprentice Marc Ball.

 

At approximately the 1600 metres BLACK LIGHT (Kasey Boxall (a)) shifted ground in and as a result SWEETWATER RIVER (Jan Cameron) had to be momentarily steadied.

 

ZARINA BOY (David Pires) over raced racing at the 1100 metres.

 

MISS BARYSH (Jodi Borrett) was held up from entering the home straight until approximately the 150 metres.

 

At approximately the 300 metres ZARINA BOY (David Pires) when shifting ground outwards to improve brushed with MIDORI DANCER (Simon Snell).

 

A post race veterinary examination of KRAVITZ (Trainer Catherine Jordan) revealed blood in its mouth.  The veterinary surgeon reported that this was of no significance.

 

The winner of the race ZARINA BOY (Trainer Terry Roles) was swabbed.

 

RACE 7 – R J AYLETT MEMORIAL CLASS 6 HANDICAP – 1175 METRES

 

PARIS RHYME (David Pires) reared prior to the start.

 

Racing in the back straight at approximately the 900 metres KOJIRO (Dean Yendall) when over racing threw its head in the air and had to be steadied by its rider to avoid the heels of ALWAYS SLICK (Kane Bandy).

 

A post race veterinary examination of PARIS RHYME (Trainer Terry Roles) revealed blood in its mouth.  The veterinary surgeon reported that this was of no significance.

 

The winner of the race NUCLEAR FREE (Trainer John Blacker) was swabbed.

 

RACE 8 – THE SUNDAY EXAMINER CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1380 METRES

 

JUMBURRAN BAY (Brendon McCoull) raced wide for the entire event.

JUMBURRAN BAY (Brendon McCoull) over raced in the early stages of the event. 

BIOLOGICAL KING (Simon Snell) layed in prior to the crossing and brushed with JUMBURRAN BAY (Brendon McCoull).

Jockey Kane Bandy (STORMIN’ FEVER) was found guilty under AR 137(a) careless riding in that at approximately the 200 metres at the crossing he rode his mount on an outwards path when insufficiently clear of JUMBURRAN BAY (Brendon McCoull) resulting in that gelding being checked.  Jockey Bandy’s licence was suspended from midnight 26 January 2005 until midnight 12 February 2005 which takes in three Tasmanian race meetings.

At approximately the 700 metres JUMBURRAN BAY layed in and brushed with SCOTCHIE (Leah Goodrick).

GENERAL

Jockey Stephen Maskiell pleaded guilty under AR 83(a) misconduct in that he swore indirectly at Jockey Shannon Brazil in the vicinity of the female jockeys room and the Stewards room.  Mr Maskiell was fined the sum of $200.

 

Stewards concluded an inquiry into the riding tactics of Apprentice Shaun Hamer (MR SOHO) in Race 5 at the Tasmanian Racing Club on 16 January 2005.  After taking evidence it was established that on the day Apprentice Hamer had stated to Stewards that his tactics were given to him by the connections of the horse.  At a later inquiry Apprentice Hamer stated he had acted on his own initiative to race wide and that the statement previously made was false.  Apprentice Hamer pleaded guilty under AR 175(gg) for false and misleading evidence in that he had given the above statements.  Apprentice Hamer was fined $500.
