Trainer David Brunton advised Stewards Trainer John Blacker would be in charge of his runners at today’s racemeeting.

Trainer W J Green advised Stewards that his Apprentice Melissa Hamilton would be in the care of Trainer R T Carr for today’s racemeeting.

RACE 1 – LILS MAIDEN PLATE (DIVISION 1) – 1200 METRES - 14 RUNNERS

The start of this race was delayed by approximately 7 minutes due to the ambulance arriving on course late.

HAVANA BAY (P Michaelides), CHAPELLERIE (L Balding) and TARNI ROSE (S Snell) were slow away

TARNI ROSE (S Snell) threw its head up shortly after the start and raced ungenerously for a short distance. Jockey Snell reported to Stewards that as a result of this horse racing ungenerously he was unable to exercise full control over his mount.

NICANOVA (D Pires (a)) jumped the crossing at about the 800m mark and thereafter brushed the running rail at approximately the 600m mark and as a result became unbalanced.

Approaching the home turn LYMINGTON (S McFerran) shifted in slightly and in doing so carried STIHLMACK (S Maskiell) inwards and as a result of this inward movement DALWINA (M Goring) who was following to the inside of STIHLMACK had to be momentarily checked by its rider. Apprentice S McFerran was shown the video of the incident and advised to take far greater care in future.

Rounding the home turn TANGLESPOOK (K Sanderson) switched out to obtain a clear run to the outside of BOLD DIP (S Tsaikos) and in doing so carried TAL MISS (D Keating (a)), who was racing greenly at the time, a little wider.

Approaching the 200m mark TAL MISS (D Keating (a)) when held up for a clear run switched outwards and in doing so inconvenienced LYMINGTON (S McFerran) momentarily.

Also at the 200m mark STIHLMACK (S Maskiell) shifted ground outwards slightly and brushed with COOL VILLA (B McCoull). Thereafter at the 100m mark STIHLMACK shifted out slightly again and brushed with COOL VILLA (B McCoull).

A post race Veterinary Inspection of TARNI ROSE revealed no obvious abnormalities.

A swab sample was taken from ASA MAC the winner of the event (Trainer Mick Burles).

RACE 2 – EXAMINER MOTOR EXPO NOVEMBER 16 MAIDEN PLATE (DIVISION 2) – 1200 METRES – 14 RUNNERS

The start of this race was delayed by 5 minutes due to the delay experienced in Race 1.

CAMILLERI (C Kingston) was slow to muster early speed.

Approaching the home turn WRAP IT UP (S Snell) shifted out slightly and crowded PLATINUM SONG (K Sanderson) to its outside. As a result MOZZY (S Quilty) who was following switched in over the heels of WRAP IT UP to obtain clear running. Shortly thereafter THE SCOUSE DEVIL (M Hamilton (a)) had to be momentarily steadied by its rider off the heels of PLATINUM SONG (K Sanderson). Shortly after straightening THE SCOUSE DEVIL shifted in sharply.

Stewards spoke with Jockey Tsaikos the rider of DEVA DANCER and advised him that he is to ensure that the chinstrap of his skullcap remains properly affixed at all times whilst mounted on a horse.

RACE 3 – THE EXAMINER PROPERTY GUIDE MAIDEN PLATE – 1600 METRES – 16 RUNNERS

The start of this race was further delayed when LA BASSE (K Sanderson) dislodged its rider Jockey K Sanderson on the way to the barriers when it fell. In the process the bridle and blinkers on this mare came undone. As a result she had to be returned to the stripping stalls for the gear to be refitted. Jockey Sanderson was checked by the on-course ambulance staff and passed fit to ride, LA BASSE was checked by the Veterinary Surgeon who passed this mare fit to take her place in the field.

The announcement of correct weight was delayed when Jockey C Burt the rider of the 3rd placegetter RIENOD wished to view the photo of the 2nd (FLY TIME (B McCoull)) and 3rd placings. After viewing the official Judge’s photo correct weight was announced on the result as given by the Judge at 1.42 p.m.

VERDANT (S Quilty) was slow away at the start.

PINTERRY GROSVE (D Pires (a)) had a tendency to lay in approaching the home turn and shifted in behind WINDAWAY (K Dodge).

RACE 4 – THE EXAMINER AUTOGUIDE CLASS 1 HANDICAP (DIVISION 1) – 1400 METRES – 11 RUNNERS

COUNTESS SOPHIE (S McFerran) was slow away at the start.

BORNLYTA (J Borrett) pulled hard in the early and middle stages of the event.

At approximately the 200m mark CHOKITO (S Tsaikos) was crowded for room for several strides between ENCOSTA NOVA (K Dodge) which shifted ground inwards and HUTTON (S Maskiell) which shifted ground outwards at the same time.

Jockey K Dodge the rider of ENCOSTA NOVA was found guilty of a charge under AR 137 (a) (Careless Riding), in that he switched outwards across the heels of HIDDEN MOMENT (S Snell) at approximately the 450m mark and in doing so crowded GLEN IRIS LAD (M Goring) to the outside and as a result this gelding had to be checked by its rider, which also inconvenienced NEAT LINES (D Sparks) to the outside of GLEN IRIS LAD. Jockey Dodge was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) racemeetings effective midnight Sunday 3rd November 2002 to expire midnight Sunday 10th November 2002.

RACE 5 – THE SUNDAY EXAMINER CLASS 1 HANDICAP (DIVISION 2) – 1400 METRES – 11 RUNNERS

Apprentice R Bradley was dislodged from her mount FLICKERING KEN shortly after passing the winning post. It was established that the saddle on this horse slipped back in the running which resulted in Apprentice Bradley losing her balance and being dislodged. As a result of the skullcap worn by Apprentice Bradley making contact with the surface of the racetrack Stewards confiscated the skullcap. Stewards inspected the gear worn by FLICKERING KEN and found nothing out of order. Acting on a report from the Course Doctor Stewards stood Apprentice Bradley down from riding in trackwork, trials and races until such time as a Medical Certificate of Fitness is tendered. Apprentice Bradley was taken to hospital for further examination.

ASDIC (P Michaelides) and JAMAICAN MONEY (D Pires (a)) had a tendency to lay in throughout in the home straight.

A post race Veterinary Inspection of EVENING SPIRIT revealed this mare sustained a superficial laceration to the inside of her near hind pastern.

RACE 6 –THE EXAMINER DEBUTANTE TWO-YEARS-OLD PLATE – 800 METRES – 12 RUNNERS

ANOTHER QUEST (J Borrett) became crowded shortly after the start.

TAN QUEST (B McCoull) raced ungenerously at about the 700m mark and shifted ground outwards.

Approaching the home turn ANOTHER QUEST (J Borrett) who was racing greenly at the time shifted in abruptly and as a result GEHENNA (S Snell) racing to her inside was carried inwards.

SIZAIRE (S Maskiell) hung in throughout in the straight and as a result shifted ground inwards and contacted with REVECHE (M Hamilton (a)) for a number of strides and carried this filly inwards.

Apprentice M Hamilton the rider of REVECHE was found Guilty of a charge under AR 137 (a) the particulars of the charge being that she allowed her mount to shift inwards at about the 350m mark, when insufficiently clear of ANOTHER QUEST (J Borrett), which resulted in this horse having to be checked by its rider for a number of strides. Apprentice Hamilton was suspended for a period to two (2) racemeetings commencing midnight Tuesday 5th November 2002 to expire midnight Sunday 17th November 2002. Stewards exercised the power granted to them under LR 5(q) to defer the commencement of the suspension.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the event GENUINE BLONDE (Trainer Gary White).

RACE 7 – EXAMINER TV GUIDE THREE-YEARS-OLD CLASS 6 HANDICAP – 1100 METRES – 6 RUNNERS

At about the 200m mark VENUS A GO GO (S Maskiell) shifted to the outside of BULBASAUR (D Pires (a)) and in doing so carried VATICAN ROSE (C Kingston) a little wider and as a result DREAM QUEST (B McCoull) racing to the outside of VATICAN ROSE was slightly inconvenienced.

BULBASAUR (D Pires (a)) shifted outwards over the concluding stages and carried VATICAN ROSE (C Kingston) wider on the track. Apprentice D Pires was shown the video of the incident and was reminded to keep his mount on a straight course at all times.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race BULBASAUR (Trainer John Luttrell).

RACE 8 – THE WAKEFUL CLUB HANDICAP – 1100 METRES – 14 RUNNERS

ORIENTAL WINGS (C Kingston) and ABBADENA (S Snell) contacted shortly after the start.

Stewards questioned Jockey S Snell in regard to his riding instructions on ABBADENA. Jockey Snell advised Stewards that he was instructed to get back on this mare and find a comfortable position in running. He stated that she jumped tardily and received contact at the start. He also stated that she is not comfortable racing amongst other runners and for this reason he elected to race wide rounding the home turn and into the straight. When questioned about his riding over the concluding stages he stated that at about the 150m mark she had knocked up under a strong hands and heels ride. Trainer Troy Blacker was also questioned in regard to this matter. He confirmed the riding instructions and stated that he was satisfied with Jockey Snell’s handling of this horse today. Stewards noted both parties explanations. In the circumstances Stewards advised Jockey Snell that in their opinion he could have ridden this mare more vigorously over the concluding stages. He was advised to ride his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query.

RACE 9 – EXAMINER RACE GUIDE CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 2100 METRES – 8 RUNNERS

Approaching the 150m mark PAPPA BEAR (S Quilty) shifted in marginally and carried TETON DAKOTA (J Borrett) inwards and as a result SILK ‘N’ ROSES (S Maskiell) became crowded for gallop room for a number of strides and had to switch to the outside of TETON DAKOTA to obtain clear running.

RACE 10 – TASMANIAN TRAVELWAYS HANDICAP – 1600 METRES – 9 RUNNERS

BUNDALAGUAH (D Keating (a)) was slow away at the start and lost 2-3 lengths as a result.

STAR JEUNE (L Goodrick) was held up for a clear run for a number of strides shortly after straightening.

DARTINGTON (S Snell) laid in under pressure in the straight and as a result Jockey Snell had to stop riding his mount and straighten it at about the 100m mark.

A post race Veterinary Inspection of DARTINGTON revealed no obvious abnormality.
