RACE 1 – BARRY PARKER TYRE SERVICE TWO-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP – 1000 METRES

All riders were reminded of their obligations and restricted areas when not in the jockeys room during the meeting.

TUMBLEWEED JACK was a late scratching at 12:08pm acting on veterinary advice when the gelding was found to be lame. TUMBLEWEED JACK has been stood down from racing until a veterinary clearance of soundness is produced.

CROSS OF LORRAINE (Ashley Jones(a)) was slow to begin and raced at the rear throughout.

MONEY IN MUD (Leigh Taylor), which led, was inclined to hang up the track and race greenly racing past the thousand and until the home turn.

RACE 2 –DRS HERRING & CLEELAND MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

LUCIBEAR (Colin Dean) was slow to begin.

Approaching the home turn TARRENLEA (P McLean), which led, slipped and lost its footing, became unbalanced, checking PARRAWEE (Shannon Brazil), LUCIBEAR (Colin Dean) and PRIDE OF PETITE (Paul Sarlo).

Following the incident with TARRENLEA Stewards inspected the track rounding the home turn in the company of jockey Paul Sarlo and were satisfied that the track was safe to continue racing. This area was soft but not wet although occasional drizzle fell during the meeting.

RACE 4 – THE TREND SPRINT CLASS D HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

NEAT LINES (Ashley Jones (a)) missed the start slightly and raced wide for the first 800 metres before tiring.

GO GAZER (Troy Atkin) was inclined to shift up the track in the run to the finish briefly inconveniencing MAGIOCHA ( L Taylor).

RACE 6 – PARERS KING ISLAND HOTEL GALLOPING CUP – 1800 METRES

BEARDSWORTH was examined by the veterinary surgeon before the event following a minor stable accident and the gelding was passed fit to race.

BEARDSWORTH (Leigh Taylor) was slow to begin.

Jockey Leigh Taylor was reprimanded for using his whip on BEARDSWORTH when out of contention over the concluding 200 metres.

A swab sample was taken from the winner APPENDALE.

RACE 7 – JOHN MUIR MEMORIAL CLASS B HANDICAP – 1600 METRES

KINGSTON MACAYLA (Peter McLean) had to be steadied off heels racing past the 1400 metre mark and then made the home turn awkwardly.

RACE 8 – PHYLIS BURLEY MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1600 METRES

FLAMIN’ EMBERS was scratched.

PORKY PIE (Ashley Jones (a)) had to be steadied off the heels of LITTKE HAGAR (Colin Dean) rounding the first turn.

GENERAL

Stewards conducted an inquiry into the running of Race 6 – Bruce Clarke Class D Handicap 1600 Metres from the Boxing Day meeting. After taking evidence from jockeys Paul Sarlo, Leigh Taylor, David Sparks, Colin Dean, Ashley Jones (a) and Shannon Brazil, trainer R J Keys and M Lehman, bookmaker Howard Culp, the Stewards believe there was no malpractice involved in the running of the race.

Jockey Peter McLean will be spoken to about his activities around the betting ring during the Boxing Day meeting.
