RACE 1 – WWW.TASMANIANTURFCLUB.COM 2YO HCP – 1200 METRES

Stewards issued a reprimand to Apprentice Michael Luttrell under AR 120 (b) for being overweight, in that he was unable to fulfill his riding engagement on GUM NUT FAIRY at the allotted weight and was subsequently replaced by Apprentice K Boxall.

SISTER PHIL (J Cameron) dislodged the rider during the preliminary.  SISTER PHIL was subsequently examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to take its place in the field.  Jockey Cameron was examined by the Ambulance officers and also found able to ride.

LOUGHMOE CASTLE (J Nevin) was fractious in the barriers prior to the start 

CYGNET JET (P Michaelides) and SISTER PHIL (J Cameron) were both slow into stride.

SISTER PHIL (J Cameron), which was over racing, appeared to blunder and shortly thereafter jumped the crossing near the 800 metres.

OFF TO WORK (L Goodrick) laid out in the home straight as a result WALLIS (B McCoull) had to shift out on several occasions to avoid that geldings heels.

Stewards questioned Jockey Ruth Bradley on the disappointing performance of MY MISSY ROSE.  Jockey Bradley stated that the filly failed to respond when placed under pressure at the 500 metres and the fact that the filly had not started for a month may have also had an affect.  A subsequent post race Veterinary examination of MY MISSY ROSE (Trainer D Brazendale) revealed no obvious abnormalities.

A post race Veterinary examination of WALLIS (Trainer L Dalco) revealed the horse returned to scale with blood in its mouth from a cut tongue.

A post race Veterinary examination of ZUBENELGENUBI (Trainer B Campbell) revealed the horse had sustained minor abrasions to the near hind leg.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race OFF TO WORK (Trainer W Pilgrim).

RACE 2 –RACEHORSE OF THE YEAR IN AUGUST MAIDEN PLATE (3YO&UP SW) – 1200 METRES

FOURWAYS (S Brazil) was slow to begin.

As the start was affected ALITTLE HAZY (K Dodge) jumped out and carried WESLANDIA (S Maskiell) out onto MISS WIGGLES (B McCoull) resulting in MISS WIGGLES clipping the heels of WESTLANDIALEX LOCI (B Bamford (a)) who was to the outside of MISS WIGGLES was also inconvenienced and lost ground. 

Jockey K Dodge (ALITTLE HAZY) was found guilty under AR 137 (a) careless riding, in that at approximately the 900 metres he allowed his mount to shift ground inwards when insufficiently clear of BEAR RUN (J Kehoe) resulting in BEAR RUN being inconvenienced and being placed awkwardly onto heels and appearing to clip the heels of ALITTLE HAZY (K Dodge).  Stewards suspended Jockey Dodge’s licence to ride in races for a period of 2 race meetings in Tasmania to commence at midnight 15 May until midnight 22 May 2005.

Shortly thereafter, BEAR RUN (J Kehoe), which began to race fiercely, shifted ground outwards and bumped heavily on several occasions with BLUE TAMBO LADY (K Boxall (a)).

James Nevin (KATE’S FELLOW) accidentally dropped his whip on the home turn.

Apprentice Brad Bamford reported that he was inconvenienced after the start and that the horse blundered on numerous occasions during the event.   Trainer R Carr reported that the mare’s form, which reads inconsistently, can be attributed to the track conditions as the mare likes softer tracks and she may have jarred up on the harder track.  Stewards advised Trainer Carr that if he were to find anything amiss with the mare during the week he is to report it immediately.  A post race Veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

A post race Veterinary examination of LEX LOCI (Trainer R Carr) revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RACE 3 – W (BILL) DUNSTONE MEMORIAL CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

SHOWER OF RUBIES (J Borrett) and SUNJOY (K Boxall (a)) were both slow to begin.

MARELLI (S Maskiell) was disappointed for a run near the 100 metres when DREWONEE (R Hanby) shifted ground inwards.  Jockey Hanby was reminded of her obligations to ensure she takes greater care when her mount shifts ground in future.

RACE 4 – CASCADE DRAUGHT CLASS 2 HANDICAP  – 1600 METRES

LAKE DOUGLAS (S Maskiell) stumbled at the start.

BAZZA GOLD (S Hamer (a)) over raced in the early and middle stages and had to be steadied off the heels of CRYSTAL QUI (B Bamford (a)) at the 1300 metres.

MOXOON (K Boxall (a)) was held up rounding the home turn and had to be steadied shortly thereafter when BAZZA GOLD (S Hamer (a)) laid in.

RACE 5 – SUES OF INVERMAY MAIDEN / CLASS 1 PLATE (SW) – 1600 METRES

Apprentice Kasey Boxall (ELARDEEGEE) lost her offside iron shortly after the start for approximately 50 metres.

Jockey Kane Bandy (HIDDEN FACE) reported that his saddle slipped slightly at the 800 metres.

Rounding the home turn KAY TEE (D Oakford) shifted ground outwards and bumped with HIDDEN FACE (K Bandy) before shifting ground inwards and bumping with US INDIAN GIVERS (J Borrett), shortly thereafter US INDIAN GIVERS became tightened for racing room and had to be checked when WOEWODIN (J Nevin) hung out and KAY TEE shifted ground in.

ANGELLI (S Hamer (a)) was held up from entering the home straight until the 200 metres.

Jockey B McCoull (CZAR RULE) reported that he was unable to obtain a clear run in any part of the race.

OPTINORM (B Bamford (a)) hung out severely rounding the 800 metre turn and tailed the field.  Stewards questioned Trainer Catherine Jordan who stated that her instructions were for the horse to be ridden forward or midfield she also advised that she would be submitting a gear change to alter the bit during the week.  Stewards advised Trainer Catherine Jordan that a warning had been placed on this gelding in relation to its hanging and poor performance.  A post race Veterinary examination of OPTINORM revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RACE 6 – RON EVANS MEMORIAL HANDICAP– 1600 METRES

NICANOVA (T Atkin) jumped outwards at the start and contacted MIDNIGHT ESCAPADE (S Maskiell) who as a result was inconvenienced.

STORM YACHT (B McCoull) over raced in the early and middle stages.

STRATHMORE LUCK (K Dodge) was checked at approximately the 1200 metres when TURBULENT FORCE (D Parish) was over racing and threw it’s head in the air, before shifting ground outwards onto STRATHMORE LUCK who in turn received pressure from NICANOVA (T Atkin) which had shifted ground in marginally.

A swab sample was taken from the second placegetter MIDNIGHT ESCAPADE (Trainer C Goggin).

RACE 7 – E A (TED) COX MEMORIAL CLASS 4 HANDICAP  – 2100 METRES

Pre race blood samples were taken from the following runners:  DEAR FRIEND (Trainer C Goggin), CELTIC COMET (Trainer M Trinder), ANDRE THE GIANT (Trainer H Patterson), STARRED (Trainer J Keys), and BOLD DIP (Trainer L Dixon).

ALL GEARD UP (C Kingston) was fractious in the barriers and was slow into stride.

Stewards questioned Jockey Corey Kingston and Trainer W McShane into the performance and tactics employed with ALL GEARD UP.  Jockey Kingston stated after being slow into stride he elected to sit three wide rather than restrain to the rear of the field.  He further stated it was his objective to improve his position from the 800 metres as the race had been run at a fast pace.  Stewards noted Jockey Kingston’s explanation, but were of the opinion that he may have erred in his judgment on this occasion.

A post race Veterinary examination of ALL GEARD UP (Trainer W McShane) revealed no obvious abnormalities.

L Dixon).

RACE 8 – O’KEEFES HOTEL CLASS 6 HANDICAP  – 1200 METRES

The declaration of correct weight was delayed when Jockey T Atkin (RACER’S PLUME) wished to view the official film with a view to lodging a protest.  After viewing the film, Jockey Atkin lodged a protest 5th (RACER’S PLUME) against 4th (LITTLE STUART) for alleged interference over the final 200 metres, in that LITTLE STUART (L Goodrick) shifted ground inwards and bumped with RACER’S PLUME on several occasions.  After taking evidence from all parties, Stewards dismissed the protest, as they were of the opinion that the interference suffered was less than the official margin.  It was established that at approximately the 100 metres LITTLE STUART laid in and bumped with RACER’S PLUME.

MATICHELLO (B McCoull) was slow into stride and lost approximately 3 lengths.
