RACE 1 –   SOUTHERN CROSS SUPERVOBIS (TAS) 3YO CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1175 METRES

ON CURFEW (Troy Atkin) threw its head in the air at the start and lost ground.

SHOWER OF RUBIES (Sally Wynne) was slow to begin.

LOST RANGE (David Pires) hung out during the event.

ROYAL BLAST (Leah Goodrick) hung in during the event.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the event CHARTWELL (Trainer Barry Campbell)

RACE 2 – THE ADVOCATE MAIDEN PLATE (1) – 1175 METRES

Trainer Patricia Quarrell was charged the sum of $25 for the use of the Club colours on BUZZBOY (John Kehoe).

GARLAND GREY (Nathan Stanley) was examined by the veterinary surgeon prior to the event and passed fit to race.

ARNIB (Sally Wynne) reared on the way to the barrier and dislodged Jockey Wynne, and then when loaded was fractious in the barriers, a warning was placed on the gelding.

MERCER MILL (Kane Bandy) was slow into stride.

BUZZBOY (John Kehoe) jumped in at the start and bumped with ARNIB (Sally Wynne), who in turn shifted in and brushed with TRENT CHRISTOPHER (Dean Yendall).

BUZZBOY (John Kehoe) laid out rounding the 600 metre turn and then, when tiring, shifted ground inwards.  As a result MERCER MILL (Kane Bandy) was carried in on to GARLAND GREY (Nathan Stanley), resulting in that gelding being inconvenienced and held up.

At approximately the 200 metre mark GENTLE BEN (Kasey Boxall (a)) made the crossing awkwardly and blundered, shifted ground inwards abruptly and brushed the running rail, unbalancing Apprentice Boxall.  LITTLE ROBO (Stephen Maskiell) had to be steadied by its rider at this stage.  

Jockey Simon Snell (ROYAL SNATCH) reported that the gelding raced erratically throughout. 

A post race veterinary examination of BUZZBOY (Trainer Patricia Quarrell) revealed this gelding had bled and under the provisions of AR 53A was stood down from racing for a period of 3 months.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the event GENTLE BEN (Trainer Leon Wells)

RACE 3 –  CDP GAS NETWORKS MAIDEN PLATE (2) – 1175 METRES

Trainer Mark Ganderton was fined $50 under AR 175(k) negligence for failing to correctly engage a rider for PETITE OISEAU.

QUESTINO (Kane Bandy) and SPINDABELLE (Phillip Crich) were slow into stride.

DUCHESS OF FUHR (Jodi Borrett) cast its off hind plate during the event.

WHISKEY WOMAN (Dean Yendall) raced greenly in the back straight.

PETITE OISEAU (Nathan Stanley) was held up at the top of the home straight when WHISKEY WOMAN shifted ground outwards and then laid in in the home straight 

AUTUMN WISH (Jo Geard (a)) was carried wider on the home turn when DUCHESS OF FUHR (Jodi Borrett) shifted out to obtain a clear run.

Jockey B McCoull (CHRONOMETER) stated that the mare travelled well down the back straight but failed to respond to vigorous riding and the conditions of today’s track may not have been favourable and as the mare had not started in 9 months, may have been in need of a run.

A post race veterinary examination of ANDAMAN SEA (Shannon Brazil) revealed the filly had blown significantly and had a poor recovery, but there were no other obvious abnormalities.

RACE 4 – SKILLED GRIOUP CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1380 METRES

MERRY MISCHIEF was a late scratching at 8.20 a.m. when Trainer Winston Pilgrim could not be contacted when the filly had gained a start as it was an emergency.

BOW SHE GOES (Troy Atkin) over-raced at the 1100 metres.

LIGHT RANK (Dean Yendall) was inclined to lay in in the home straight.

Prior to the line GENERAL ZOOM (Simon Snell) laid in on to CLAUSE TWO (Kane Bandy).

LUNARDI (Leah Goodrick) performed poorly and a post race veterinary inspection revealed no obvious abnormalities.   Trainer Winston Pilgrim stated that he had expected a forward showing from LUNDARDI but that the gelding may have reached the end of his preparation.  A swab sample was taken from LUNARDI.

CLAUSE TWO (Kane Bandy) returned to scale with blood in its mouth, which was of no significance.

RACE 5 – PATRICK CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1800 METRES

BOLD DIP (Kevin Dodge) jumped outwards at the start inconveniencing REGAL SWORD (Kasey Boxall (a)), then over-raced in the early stages and hung out from the 1400 metres until the 600 metres.

In the home straight MONEY MAGNET (Stephen Maskiell) laid in and was awkwardly placed on to the heels of ROYAL RELAY (Jodie Borrett), then shifted wider on the track, resulting in BOLD DIP (Kevin Dodge) having to shift ground outwards.  MONEY MAGNET continued to lay in thereafter despite the efforts of its rider.

MONEY MAGNET (Stephen Maskiell) and ROYAL RELAY (Jodie Borrett) brushed over the concluding stages.

RACE 6 – TOLL TASMANIA MAIDEN/CLASS 1 PLATE – 1600 METRES

ESTATE KING was a late scratching at 11.52 a.m. when Trainer Gary White could not be contacted when the gelding had gained a start as it was an emergency.

MILLIONAIRE MAX (Stephen Maskiell) jumped outwards at the start, taking WEASEL WHISKEY (Simon Snell) out on to ATWESTCO (David Pires), which was inconvenienced.

PORTLAND PROFIT (Dean Yendall) jumped in at the start and as a result WITIKO (Shannon Brazil) and ALL GEARD UP (Shane Gates) were inconvenienced.

DARBY D’OR (Brendon McCoull) jumped outwards at the start and momentarily inconvenienced KASHMIR VALE (Marc Ball (a)).

At the turn out of the front straight BRAEQUEST (Kane Bandy) laid in away from MILLIONAIRE MAX (Stephen Maskiell).  In doing so PORTLAND PROFIT (Dean Yendall), who was laying in also, shifted in on to ALL GEARD UP (Shane Gates), resulting in that gelding being momentarily inconvenienced.

BRAQUEST (Kane Bandy) over-raced when leaving the 1300 metres and then over-raced again at the 700 metres

PORTLAND PROFIT (Dean Yendall) dipped at about the 300 metres and than at approximately the 150 metres BRAQUEST (Kane Bandy) laid in on to the hindquarters of PORTLAND PROFIT before being straightened by its rider.

RACE 7 – MITSUBISHI HANDICAP – 1175 METRES

WHAT’S THE GOSS (Kevin Dodge) was slow into stride.

Approaching the 600 metres WHAT’S THE GOSS (Kevin Dodge), which was over-racing, was checked by its rider to avoid the heels of KOJIRO (Dean Yendall).

At approximately the 300 metres MYRAYOV (Leah Goodrick) laid out and clipped the heels of JAY KAY BEE (Brendon McCoull) on several occasions.

Jockey Simon Snell (LONELY SHORE) reported that the gelding failed to handle today’s track conditions.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the event JAY KAY BEE (Trainer John Blacker).

RACE 8 – OASIS DEVONPORT CUP – 1800 METRES

At the winning post on the first occasion CHARZARD (Troy Atkin) became buffeted between SKI STAR (Dean Yendall) and MISS BARYSH (Jodi Borrett) when MISS BARYSH laid in away from STORM YACHT (Simon Snell) who was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SAFIN (Nathan Stanley).  Jockey Stanley was reprimanded under AR 137(a)) careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift ground inwards when insufficiently clear. In not taking more severe action, Stewards took into account the manners of MISS BARYSH prior to and during the incident.

Entering the home straight SPEECHMAKER (Peter Mertens) was carried wider on the track by STORM YACHT (Simon Snell).

At approximately the 150 metres SKI STAR (Dean Yendall) shifted ground outwards to obtain a clear run and in doing so momentarily inconvenienced CHARZARD (Troy Atkin).

MISS BARYSH (Jodi Borrett) laid in in the home straight and had to be straightened on several occasions by its rider.

Jockey Brendan McCoull (DREAM QUEST) reported that the gelding had got down on his bumpers and was of the opinion that the horse failed to handle the track conditions.  A post race veterinary examination of DREAM QUEST revealed no abnormalities.

Jockey Simon Snell (STORM YACHT) reported that he was of the opinion that there was something amiss with the gelding.  A post race veterinary examination of STORM YACHT revealed no abnormalities.

Swab samples were taken from the winner of the event ZARINA BOY (Trainer Terry Roles) and second placegetter SKI STAR (Trainer Leon Wells).

Jockey Shane Gates (ZARINA BOY) was fined $100 under AR 137(c) in that he made a celebratory gesture prior to passing the winning post.

RACE 9 –  THE PREMIER’S PLATE – 1175 METRES

MISS LUSCIOUS (Jo Geard (a)) proved a little difficult to load.

STATEVAIN (David Pires) was slow into stride.

ANDRIAS (Brendon McCoull) laid in in the home straight and had to be straightened by its rider on several occasions.

ASA GREY (Dean Yendall) hung out and over raced at the 600 metres and then hung out rounding the home turn.

ANDRIAS (Brendon McCoull) was accidentally struck over the nose with the whip of Apprentice Marc Ball (TRILLSON) at the 150 metres.

RACE 10  –  J BOAG & SON BREWING CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1600 METRES

At the start LORD DANZERO (David Pires) jumped inwards and bumped with ALL POINTS WEST (Leah Goodrick)

LORD DANZERO (David Pires) laid in rounding the 1200 metre turn and again at the 350 metres and as a result momentarily hampered MIDORI DANCER (Simon Snell).

MIDORI DANCER (Simon Snell) over-raced in the middle stages of the event.

DANDERA (Jodi Borrett), which performed poorly, underwent a veterinary examination post race, which revealed no obvious abnormalities. 

GENERAL

Stewards concluded an inquiry from TTC – 19 December 2004 – Race 8 – Kevin Sharkie Class 2 Handicap.  Jockey Troy Atkin (BORN A QUEEN) was found guilty under AR 137(a) careless riding in that at approximately the 150 metres he allowed his mount to shift ground inwards when insufficiently clear of MONEY MAGNET (David Sparks).  As a result MONEY MAGNET appeared to clip heels and fall.  Jockey Atkin’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of two Tasmanian race meetings from midnight 9 January 2005 until midnight 23 January 2005.                   

Steward inquired into a complaint from Jockey Kane Bandy into his belief that he had a confirmed riding engagement on CHARDERE (Trainer Darrel Baldock) in Race 8 – Devonport Cup.  After taking evidence from Trainer Darrel Baldock, Jockey Kane Bandy and Jockey Simon Snell it was unable to be established whether an engagement had been made and as a result Stewards were of the opinion that no riding fee was applicable.
