* Stewards reprimanded Apprentice J Nevin under AR 120 (b), in that he failed to draw the correct weight for rides he had accepted on SOUTHERN PORT (Race 4) and GRIGIO (Race 8).

** Jockey K Dodge advised Stewards that he would be unable to fulfill his engagements due to illness. He was advised by Stewards that before engaging in any trackwork, trials or race riding he is to tender a medical certificate of fitness.

*** Jockey K Cook advised Stewards by telephone that her transport had broken down and that she was unable to get to the racecourse to meet her riding commitments.

RACE 1 - CARLTON DRAUGHT FILLES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 METRES - 14 RUNNERS

FUN IN MONACO (J Borrett) blundered at the start.

Shortly after leaving the 800m mark ROSIE’S VAIN (K Lewis) commenced to over-race and as a result shifted out abruptly and contacted AT ST CATHARINES (D Parish) to its outside and as a consequence MATANE (K Bandy) was carried wider on the turn.

At about the 700m mark SHOEYOCHA (D Pires (a)) raced ungenerously for a short distance and shifted out onto DAJARRA (S Maskiell) who in turn shifted out onto PRINCESS OF NIME.

JOIN THE QUEUE (R Bradley (a)) had a tendency to over-race in the early and middle stages of the event and as a result had to be steadied off the heels of FUN IN MONACO (J Borrett).

At about the 500m mark JOIN THE QUEUE (R Bradley (a)) was awkwardly placed on the heels of PRINCESS OF NIME (D Keating (a)) and DAJARRA (S Maskiell) for number of strides.

Shortly after straightening OUTLAW LASSIE (K Moore) shifted out slightly and contacted with MATANE (K Bandy).

Approaching the 200m mark FUN IN MONACO (J Borrett) shifted out and in doing so momentarily inconvenienced JOIN THE QUEUE (R Bradley (a)) who had to be steadied by its rider, and shortly thereafter SHOEYOCHA (D Pires (a)) switched out from behind BEBE (P Michaelides) and in doing so made contact with OUTLAW LASSIE (K Moore) and carried this horse onto JOIN THE QUEUE over the concluding stages of the race. As a result OUTLAW LASSIE became inconvenienced for a number of strides and Apprentice Bradley (JOIN THE QUEUE) had to ease her mount. Following an inquiry into this incident Stewards reprimanded Apprentice D Pires under AR 137 (a), Careless Riding after taking into account that his horse’s manners contributed to the incident.

A post race Veterinary inspection of SHOEYOCHA revealed this filly had sustained a small cut to the coronet of the off fore.

A post race Veterinary inspection of JOIN THE QUEUE revealed this filly had sustained a small cut to the outside of the off fore cannon.

A post race Veterinary inspection of DIVULGENCE revealed no obvious abnormalities.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the event STILL SMOKIN (Trainer Allan Wyllie).

RACE 2 - R J FOOT COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 METRES - 14 RUNNERS

Approaching the 800m mark DRUM TIME (J Nevin (a)) shifted out slightly and in doing so inconvenienced OUR DASHING DANE (P Michaelides) to its outside. At the same time MILITIA (K Bandy) racing to their inside shifted out slightly and as a result MATICHELLO (B McCoull) was inconvenienced momentarily. Apprentice Nevin the rider of DRUM TIME was shown the video of the incident and advised to take more care when shifting ground in future.

SOMERVILLE STAR (C Kingston) made the turn at the 800m mark awkwardly and raced wide throughout the event.

MATSQUI BOY (K Lewis) raced green throughout.

OUR DASHING DANE (P Michaelides), who was racing greenly at the time, shifted out and carried REBIFY (K Moore) out wider on the track over the concluding stages.

RACE 3 - F & W STEWART JEWELLERS SILVER INGOT TWO-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP - 1100 METRES - 9 RUNNERS

The announcement of correct weight was delayed when Jockey S Snell the rider of the fifth placed runner HARPIST wished to view the video of the race with a view to lodging a protest against the second placed runner BORN A QUEEN (S Maskiell). After viewing the video Jockey Snell elected not to lodge a protest.

Stewards found Jockey S Maskiell guilty of a contravention of AR 137 (a), Careless Riding, the particulars of the charge being that whilst riding BORN A QUEEN approaching the 800m mark he allowed his mount to cross TAN QUEST (B McCoull) when insufficiently clear of this gelding, carrying that horse inwards which then resulted in HARPIST (S Snell) becoming crowded for galloping room and having to be severely checked by its rider. Stewards suspended Jockey Maskiell from riding in races for a period equivalent to one racemeeting in Tasmania effective midnight Sunday 16th February 2003 to expire Sunday 23rd February 2003. Jockey Maskiell has the right of Appeal. As a result of this incident SANTABURY (J Nevin (a)) who was following also had to be restrained by its rider for a number of strides.

A post race Veterinary inspection of NICKY SUE revealed no obvious abnormalities.

A post race Veterinary inspection of BORN A QUEEN revealed no obvious abnormalities.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the event TAN QUEST (Trainer Barry Campbell).

RACE 4 - THOROUGHBRED BREEDERS OF TAS INC SUPERVOBIS 3YO FILLIES CLASS 6 HANDICAP - 1600 METRES - 6 RUNNERS

No report.

RACE 5 - W I PLAYSTED CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1600 METRES - 12 RUNNERS

DEVON RELAY was slow away.

FLY TIME was slow to muster early speed.

SHIRVINGTON (D Keating (a)) and SIR RODGER (S Snell) brushed on a number of occasions at approximately the 900m mark. Shortly thereafter SIR RODGER shifted out and carried SHIRVINGTON a little wider on the track.

LITTLE EM (S Maskiell) was held up momentarily for a clear run rounding the home turn.

At about the 200m mark LITTLE EM (S Maskiell) shifted outwards slightly to obtain a clear run and contacted with DEVON RELAY (J Nevin (a)).

RACE 6 - FOOT & PLAYSTED TASMANIAN ST LEGER STAKES - ABOUT 2100 METRES - 12 RUNNERS

Routine pre race blood samples were taken from LORD BARACUS (Trainer Gary White), FATHER FLOYD (Trainer Terry Roles), MR SOHO (Trainer Mick Burles), ISLAND QUEST (Trainer John Keys), DARTINGTON (Trainer John Blacker) and MOCCA (Trainer G E Blacker).

A post race swab sample was taken from the winner of the event DARTINGTON (Trainer John Blacker).

RACE 7 - M A REES MEMORIAL CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1200 METRES - 14 RUNNERS

The gear changes in the racebook did not reflect that LILLIAN’S LASS would be racing without blinkers. A public announcement was made to this effect prior to the event.

At the start DEVON’S BOY (C Kingston) jumped out and ZARINA BOY (B McCoull) jumped in, as a result GO SUPER GO (J Borrett) became buffeted between these two runners. Shortly thereafter CHARLIE RAAMI (D Parish) shifted out slightly, as a result DEVON’S BOY (C Kingston) became crowded for galloping room and lost some ground.

Approaching the home turn SPIT THE PIP (K Lewis) shifted out for a clear run and carried MOSSANTO (L Goodrick) a little wider.

HUTTON (W Stacey (a)) was held up for a clear run over the concluding stages behind ANNIFURY (D Pires (a)).

RACE 8 - FINE PRINTERS HANDICAP - 1600 METRES - 12 RUNNERS

GREY WOLF (K Lewis) jumped awkwardly at the start, contacted with THE SPUNK (S Maskiell), and as a result THE SPUNK was slow away.

STAR JEUNE (L Goodrick) was slow away.

Rounding the home turn GREY WOLF (K Lewis) had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of OUR ROB ROI (S McFerran).
