The start of this race was delayed approximately five minutes due to the bridle on MORE SHOES (Trainer Terence Evans) requiring adjustment at the barriers.

OFF THE SHOW (D Sparks) jumped awkwardly then shifted out and made contact with MORE SHOES (K Lewis). OFF THE SHOW lost ground thereafter.

MORE SHOES (K Lewis) failed to negotiate the turn at the 600 metre mark and run wide thereafter. A post-race veterinary inspection of MORE SHOES failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities with the filly.

RACE 2 - ROSEMOUNT CHARDONNAY MAIDEN PLATE - 1080 METRES - 13 RUNNERS

OUR DASHING DANE was a late scratching by order of Stewards at 12.35 pm when Jockey S Snell had failed to arrive on course by the prescribed time and there were no other jockeys available to take the ride. At a subsequent inquiry, Jockey S Snell informed Stewards that it was due to the illness of a person travelling in the same car which caused him to be late. In the circumstances, Stewards noted his explanation but further advised him that he should allow sufficient time in future so that he ensures that he arrives on course within the prescribed time.

The start of this race was delayed approximately two minutes when CHENADE (R Bradley A) proved difficult to load. Trainer Jason Clifford was advised that a warning had been placed on this filly regarding her barrier manners.

AL BAGDAD (D Sparks) was slow into stride.

Shortly after the start, PRINCESS AVENGER (D Parish) raced erratically and shifted in abruptly, inconveniencing AL BAGDAD (D Sparks).

At the 800 metres, HEARTLESS (K Dodge) had to be eased off the heels of PERSONAL PEAK (S Maskiell) when the pace slackened.

At approximately the 600 metre mark, PRINCESS AVENGER ran up on to the heels of AL BAGDAD and had to be checked by its rider.

Over the concluding stages CHENADE (R Bradley A) hung in on several occasions, resulting in Apprentice Bradley having to stop riding and straighten her mount on several occasions.

Approaching the finishing line, CHENADE (R Bradley A) had to be steadied off the heels of ZARA’S CHOICE (S Tsaikos) when this filly again shifted ground inwards.

Jockey S Maskiell (PERSONAL PEAK) reported to Stewards at Scale that his horse hung in for a major part of the event.

An inquiry was opened and adjourned into the reasons why ZARA’S CHOICE (Trainer R M Worbey) was presented to race without a nose-roll.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race EMPEROR NAPOLEON (Trainer John Luttrell).

RACE 3 - KOONUNGA HILL SUPERVOBIS 3-Y-O CLASS 6 HANDICAP - 1550 METRES - 5 RUNNERS

The race was delayed several minutes due to the barrier manners of DREI (Trainer Charlie Goggin).

DREI was a late scratching at 1.34 pm by order of Stewards when the filly refused to stand upright in the stalls. DREI was subsequently taken out and then refused to be re-loaded. Prior to the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested on DREI prior to 1.34 pm to be refunded in full. All bets made prior to 1.34 pm to be paid less twenty cents in the dollar on the face value of the win ticket and fifteen cents in the dollar on the value of the place ticket.

LILAC SKY (S Tsaikos) laid in momentarily near the line and had to be steadied by its rider.

RACE 4 - FLEUR DE LYS MAIDEN PLATE – 1550 METRES – 13 RUNNERS

The announcement of correct weight was delayed as Jockey S Snell, the rider of the second placegetter FLY GEORGIE, wished to view the official video patrol film. After viewing the film, Jockey Snell advised that he wished to lodge a protest against SKI STAR (L Goodrick) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference over the concluding stages. After considering evidence from all the parties concerned and viewing the official Stewards’ patrol films and acting on their own observations, the protest was dismissed after it was established that although SKI STAR had shifted ground outwards, it was also evident that FLY GEORGIE had laid in and shifted ground inwards under pressure resulting in both horses making contact about fifty metres from the finishing line. Stewards ordered the Judge’s placings to stand and correct weight was declared.

Rounding the 1200 metre turn, QUICK AS A BLINK (K Lewis) shifted out, causing DENON (K Dodge) to be inconvenienced and steadied by its rider off QUICK AS A BLINK’s heels.

Entering the back straight at approximately the 1100 metre mark, CHAPELLERIE (S Maskiell) and DENON (K Dodge) which was racing erratically at the time, were checked by their riders when tightened for racing room to the inside of FLY GEORGIE (S Snell) and SQUIRE MOOR (D Sparks). Stewards, after taking evidence from the riders concerned and viewing the official video films, were unable to apportion blame to any one rider in particular. However, both Jockeys Sparks and Snell were reminded of their obligations to ensure that they are fully clear when shifting ground.

At approximately the 250 metre mark QUICK AS A BLINK (K Lewis) shifted out and brushed with FLY GEORGIE (S Snell).

At approximately the 100 metre mark, Jockey B McCoull (SCOTTISH SYMBOL) had to ease his mount over the heels of SKI STAR (Jockey L Goodrick) as it shifted ground outwards under pressure. Stewards issued Jockey L Goodrick with a reprimand under AR-137(a) and advised her that they would expect her to stop and straighten her mount when shifting ground in future.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race SKI STAR (Trainer Leon Wells).

RACE 5 - ROSEMOUNT SHIRAZ CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1080 METRES - 10 RUNNERS

GILT WINGS (C Kingston) threw its head in the air and was slow to muster early speed. The gelding then continued to race ungenerously in the early and middle stages.

Approaching the 600 metre mark NORMAN FLYER (K Lewis) when attempting to improve his position, shifted outwards making contact with McBAIN (S Maskiell.

Approaching the 450 metre mark, McBAIN shifted out, resulting in BEAR’S SCENE (D Pires A) having to be steadied by its rider.

RACE 6 - LINDEMANS WINES CLASS 6 HANDICAP – 1205 METRES - 11 RUNNERS

The start of this race was delayed when an adjustment had to be made to the bridle of GLAMOUR BOY (Trainer Peter Luttrell) at the barriers.

The start of this race was further delayed when KING FLYER (B McCoull) broke through the front of the gates and galloped a short distance before being restrained by its rider. KING FLYER was returned to the barriers, inspected by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to take its place with the field.

At about the 1200 metre mark, MAN UNDERCOVER (D Pires A) laid out and brushed with GLAMOUR BOY (K Dodge) which was racing to its outside. MAN UNDERCOVER got its head up and continued to race ungenerously in the middle stages of the event.

CURVIER BAY (K Lewis) hung out rounding the 600 metre mark and into the home straight.

VIDEO FLYER (S Maskiell) was held up for some distance rounding the home turn and then at approximately the 200 metre mark, VIDEO FLYER was again held up behind MUSTIN MAYPOLE (L Goodrick) and ALWAYS SLICK (C Kingston).

VIDEO FLYER (S Maskiell) had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

CORINDHAP (D Parish) laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

Stewards advised Jockey S Maskiell (VIDEO FLYER) that he must ensure that he rides his mounts out fully to the line in future. In taking no further action, Stewards took into account that the gelding had finished in its best possible position.

Trainer Max Wood was questioned in relation to the improved performance of CORINDHAP in today’s event. He believed the distance of its last race was too short and at its start before it received a check at a crucial stage of the event. Stewards noted his explanation and advised him that they will monitor this gelding’s future performances.

A post-race veterinary inspection of DONATIVA (NZ) revealed the gelding to have blood in its mouth after biting its tongue.

A post-race veterinary inspection of GLAMOUR BOY revealed the gelding to have blood in its mouth after biting its tongue.

A post-race veterinary inspection of MAN UNDERCOVER failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race CORINDHAP (Trainer Max Wood).

RACE 8 - WYNNS COONAWARRA ESTATE CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1205 METRES - 11 RUNNERS

The Trainer for ARR DEE BEE was incorrectly shown in the media as Trainer Allan Stubbs when in fact a Stable Return had been lodged earlier in the week from Trainer Jenny James showing her as the new trainer. A public announcement was made to this effect prior to the start.

The announcement of correct weight was delayed when Jockey K Dodge wished to view the video of the start as he felt he may have been denied a fair start. After viewing the video, Jockey Dodge said he did not wish to continue and correct weight was announced.

TATTLE TOWN (NZ) (K Dodge) missed the start by approximately two lengths.

BANTAM WEIGHT (R Bradley A) was a little slow into stride.

SHINING OCHRE (D Pires A) threw its head in the air at the start and lost ground.

At approximately the 600 metre mark ARR DEE BEE (S Tsaikos) was eased when racing tight to the inside of CHEQUE BOOK BLITZ (B McCoull).

At about the 450 metres, I’M A RACER (S Maskiell) clipped the heels of ISLE OF EASE (C Kingston) which rolled in under pressure when tiring. Stewards advised Jockey Kingston that he should exercise more care in future when his mounts shift ground.

Approaching the 300 metre, I’M A RACER (S Maskiell), when attempting to take a run to the outside of CHEQUE BOOK BLITZ (B McCoull) was bumped heavily by ARR DEE BEE (S Tsaikos) forcing Jockey Maskiell to take hold and shift back in over the heels of CHEQUE BOOK BLITZ to obtain an inside run.

JEKYLL (K Lewis) laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

A post-race veterinary inspection of I’M A RACER revealed the gelding to have a small cut on its near foreleg pastern.
