at today’s race meeting due to the HEAVY track rating.

*              Stewards will advise Apprentice J Geard that she must tender a medical certificate declaring her fit to ride before she resumes riding in track work, trials or races.

RACE 1 –  STERE AEROSPACE MAIDEN / CLASS 1 PLATE – SET WEIGHTS

                   2400 METRES

Pre-race swabs were taken from the following runners:

QUESTINO (S Hamer (a)) blundered at the start and then shifted outwards and brushed with PINTERRY GROSVE (D Pires).

Racing in the front straight on the first occasion, PINTERRY GROSVE (D Pires) and QUESTINO (S Hamer (a)) brushed on a number of occasions.

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, PINTERRY GROSVE (D Pires) and OUR BOY GEORGE (K Moore) both over-raced.  As a result of OUR BOY GEORGE over‑racing, PINTERRY GROSVE was momentarily tightened for room.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, HIDDEN FACE (T Atkin) had to be steadied by its rider when FYNDARN FINALE (T Wong (a)), racing in advance, crossed to the rails.  Stewards advised Apprentice Wong that he must exercise more care in future when shifting ground.

RACE 2 – ALLSANDS MAIDEN PLATE – 3YO & UPWARDS - SET WEIGHTS 1600 METRES

Trainer Allan Stubbs was charged $27.50 for the use of the Club’s colours on SILVESTREAM MISS.

Jockey D Pires was fined $25 under AR 175(k) for presenting himself in the mounting yard in the incorrect colours for his ride on LOUIE MARLANE.

AUTUMNI (R Bradley) threw its head in the air on jumping.

Approaching the winning post, SILVERSTREAM MISS (J Borrett) laid out under pressure as WHISKEY WOMAN (S Hamer (a)) shifted ground inwards resulting in Apprentice Hamer having to momentarily steady his mount.

On return to scale, Jockey S Maskiell (TOP TIMBER) reported that in his opinion, TOP TIMBER lacked race fitness today and as a result was unable to be competitive over the concluding stages of the race.  A post-race veterinary inspection of TOP TIMBER (Trainer Darryl Howlin) failed to reveal any abnormalities with the gelding.

A post-race veterinary inspection of TERTIAN DELAY (Trainer Graeme McCulloch) failed to reveal any abnormalities with the mare.

A post-race veterinary inspection of LOUIE MARLANE (Trainer Terry Roles) failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities with the filly.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race LADY OF MAY (Trainer Jason Clifford).

RACE 3– PITTWATER GRASSFED BEEF MAIDEN PLATE – 3YO & UPWARDS SET WEIGHTS  -  1100 METRES

SONANDO (P Michaelides) jumped outwards at the start and bumped with SIMANDA MARGIE (C Kingston) causing that filly to lose its position.

WHIRL (K Dyson (a)) was inconvenienced at the start when NOBLE EDGE (D Oakford) jumped out and BLUE TAMBO LADY (S Maskiell) laid in. 

Near the 1000 metres, NOBLE EDGE (D Oakford) shifted ground outwards resulting in WHIRL (K Dyson (a)) being momentarily inconvenienced and brushing with BLUE TAMBO LADY (S Maskiell) to its outside.  Jockey Oakford was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Near the 700 metres, WHIRL (K Dyson (a)) shifted ground outwards and momentarily brushed the hindquarters of BLUE TAMBO LADY (S Maskiell) which was racing to its outside.

Near the 200 metres, AFFAIR DE JOUR (J Nevin) shifted in under pressure resulting in its rider having to stop riding and straighten.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race SONANDO (Trainer Chris Crook).

RACE 4 – WILLING FAMILY - 2YO MAIDEN PLATE SET WEIGHTS – 1100 METRES

TWO BOB (C Kingston) jumped awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result.

At the start, FRIAR FRANK (P Michaelides) jumped in as SUPER CLAUSE (T Atkin) shifted out on jumping.  Shortly afterwards these two runners again made contact on several occasions.

Stewards opened an inquiry into the reasons for DOUBLY BUBBLY (D Oakford) being checked and losing its position near the 600 metres.  Subsequently Stewards found Jockey R Bradley (MAE’S PARTY) guilty of careless riding under AR-137(a) in that she allowed her mount to shift ground inwards when racing outside DOUBLY BUBBLY (D Oakford) resulting in this filly losing its position.  As a result, SUPER CLAUSE (T Atkin) which was following had to be severely checked by its rider.  Jockey Bradley’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of two race meetings in Tasmania to commence at midnight tonight (17/07/2005) and expire at midnight on Sunday, 31 July 2005. 

A post-race veterinary inspection of SYMQUEST at Trainer Charlie Goggin’s request revealed a significant lung infection.  The Club’s veterinary surgeon advised Trainer Goggin that he must tender a veterinary certificate before SYMQUEST’s next race start.

A post-race veterinary inspection of DOUBLY BUBBLY (Trainer Royston Carr) failed to reveal any abnormalities with the filly.

RACE 5 – RENATARA THOROUGHBREDS CLASS 1 HANDICAP – DIVISION 1

                  1100 METRES

Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reasons for MOCHACHINO (J Cameron) being checked approaching the 500 metres which resulted in STEAMBOAT ROCK (J Geard (a)) appearing to clip heels, dislodging Apprentice J Geard.  As a result of this incident the following horses were all severely checked; HALF DECENT (K Dodge) which was racing on the rails, ARROW MAN (C Kingston), DON’T TELL GANDMA (S Maskiell) and ASA DANE (T Wong (a)).

A post-race veterinary inspection of  STEAMBOAT ROCK (Trainer Terence Evans) failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities with the gelding.

A post-race veterinary inspection of MOCHACHINO (Trainer David Moore) revealed the filly had lost an off hind shoe during the running of the race. 

Apprentice J Geard was taken to hospital for x-rays and observation.

RACE 6 –   ALL PENNA PEOPLE CLASS 1 HANDICAP – DIVISION 2 - 1100 METRES

Approaching the 600 metres, ABERCROMBIE (T Wong (a)) had to be steadied by its rider when BACK AT TWO (C Kingston) shifted ground inwards when racing to its outside.  Stewards issued Jockey C Kingston with a reprimand under AR-137(a).

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race STAR PROFILE (Trainer Charlie Goggin).

RACE 7 –  TRC MEMBERS SPRINT HANDICAP  – 1200 METRES

KING FLYER (S Maskiell) jumped out at the start and as a result RAHIRI (K Dodge) and MAN IN BLACK (A Keating (a)) were both inconvenienced. 

RACE 8 –PENNA CULTURAL SOCIETY CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1100 METRES

NO LAUGHING MATTER (Trainer Charlie Goggin) was a late scratching at 2.27 pm by order of Stewards acting on a confirmed telephone call, when the filly was injured in the float en route to the race course.  Stewards ordered all monies invested on NO LAUGHING MATTER to be refunded in full with no further alteration to be made to betting.

DANDERA (J Borrett) broke through the front of its barrier gate.  The mare was restrained by its rider and the Clerk of the Course and returned to the barriers where the Club’s veterinary surgeon inspected it and passed it fit to take its place with the field. 

At the start, LITTLE STUART (J Cameron) jumped outwards and inconvenienced SENSATIONAL JACK (S Brazil).

Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reasons for DANDERA (J Borrett) having to be steadied off the heels of CLASSIC ED (S Hamer (a)) at the 600 metres.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race DEAR FRIEND (Trainer Charlie Goggin).

RACE 9 - GINI’S BIG’UN CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

At the start, PHARAOH’S DAUGHTER (T Wong (a)) stood flat-footed as the gates were released.

At the start, LADETO (K Moore) jumped inwards resulting in CHIEF CITATION (C Kingston) and RUTHAIN (R Hanby) being crowded between that gelding and MUI’S PRIDE (P Michaelides) which had jumped outwards.

When questioned after the race, Jockey S Maskiell (LITTLE ROBO) stated that he believed LITTLE ROBO did not handle the heavy track conditions today.

A post-race veterinary inspection of LADETO (Trainer Jack Green) failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities with the gelding.

A post-race veterinary inspection of LITTLE ROBO (Trainer Mark Ganderton) failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

GENERAL

Trainer Mark Ganderton pleaded guilty to a charge under AR-175(q) in that prior to having his jockey mount up on LITTLE ROBO in Race 9, his behaviour and the manner in which he spoke to Steward Mr Bruce Free, was rude and abrupt.  Trainer Ganderton was subsequently fined $50 for unseemly behaviour.
