RACE 1 - BIG BROTHER UNCUT MAIDEN PLATE - 1800 METRES - 6 RUNNERS

Stewards granted permission for LADY RUNYON (Brendon McCoull) to be loaded, fitted with a barrier blanket. A public announcement to this effect was made prior to the event.

Jockey S Snell, the rider of STRAIT RAIDER, reported at scale that his horse failed to act in the underfoot conditions.

Approaching the 1100 metres RASPBERRY TWISTER (Phil Michaelides) was awkwardly placed on the heels of JACK WILL DANCE ((NZ)) (Troy Atkin), threw its head up and commenced to race ungenerously for a short distance and in doing so carried STRAIT RAIDER (Simon Snell) a little wider on the track.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race LADY RUNYON (Trainer Larry Dalco).

RACE 2 -WHITE COLLAR BLUE MAIDEN PLATE - 1175 METRES - 7 RUNNERS

The start of this event was delayed by approximately five minutes when the saddle on SOME HONEY (Jo Geard (a)) slipped forward en route to the barriers, resulting in the Clerk of the Course having to return this gelding from the 600 metre mark, and the rider (apprentice Geard) having to be taken to the barriers by the stewards. On return to the barriers the gelding was re-saddled and checked by the veterinary surgeon who passed it fit to race. An announcement to this effect was made prior to the running of this event.

The announcement of correct weight was delayed when it was established that apprentice Geard, the rider of SOME HONEY, weighed in approximately 2.3 kg (53.7 kg) under the weight at which she weighed out at. After weighing Miss Geard again, with the bridle, she weighed in at 54.4 kg, 1.6 kg under the weight at which she weighed out at. Acting in terms of A.R.143, SOME HONEY (placed third by the Judge) was disqualified from the event and the placings were amended to:-

1. SCOTTISH SYMBOL (B McCoull)

2. ROBESPIERRE (R Hanby (a))

3. ARKCROFT (K Sanderson)

4. CLIFTON BELLE (S McFerran)

5. EDIYM (T Wong (a))

Correct weight was announced on the new result at 1.10 p.m. It was subsequently established that the lead bag fitted to this gelding dropped near the 600 metre mark when circumstances, as there was no evidence of malpractice or neglect, stewards took no direct action against apprentice Geard. A veterinary inspection of SOME HONEY on return to scale revealed the gelding was distressed and difficult to control with evidence of stringhalt in both hind legs (more severe in near hind leg). The veterinary surgeon recommended that the gelding trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. Mr T Roles was advised accordingly.

ROBESPIERRE (R Hanby (a)) returned to scale with blood in its mouth. A veterinary inspection of the gelding revealed no obvious abnormality.

Jockey Sandra McFerran, the rider of CLIFTON BELLE, was reprimanded (A.R.144) for failing to weigh in following this event.

RACE 4 - SUNRISE CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 1175 METRES - 13 RUNNERS

DRUID’S GLEN (Corey Kingston) was slow into stride and thereafter failed to muster early speed. A veterinary inspection of this gelding subsequent to the event revealed no obvious abnormality.

Rounding the home turn passing the 400 metre mark GOLD LANE (Leah Goodrick), when electing for a run to the inside of DEEP RISING (T Atkin), had to be eased by its rider and switched out over the heels of DEEP RISING when this mare shifted ground inwards slightly. In the circumstances stewards showed jockey Atkin the video footage of the incident and reminded him of his obligations when shifting ground. He was also advised, stronger action may be taken in similar circumstances in future.

Approaching the 1000 metre mark PINTERRYON (Simon Snell) shifted wider out the track and in doing so carried TANGLESPOOK (Troy Atkin) outwards. Jockey Snell was spoken to by stewards and advised to take more care when shifting ground in future.

RACE 7 - ALL SAINTS CLASS 6 HANDICAP - 1800 METRES - 5 RUNNERS
