Webb Fined After Bi-Carb Inquiry

0519swebb.jpg (12079 bytes)The Stewards today inquired into the analyst’s finding on the pre-race blood sample taken from “Lochi” which ran third in the Robyn Maceys Panmure Hotel Class 4 Handicap run at Warrnambool racecourse on the 12th August, 2002.

The pre-race blood sample taken from “Lochi” was for post-race analysis.

The analyst reported that “Lochi” had a total carbon dioxide (TCO2) concentration greater than 36.0 mmol/l in plasma.

Evidence was taken today from Mr S Webb, trainer of “Lochi”, Dr J Vine, Laboratory Director of Racing Analytical Services Limited, Dr J McCaffrey, Director of Veterinary Services Racing Victoria, Mr P McMillan, Racecourse Detective Racing Victoria and written submissions were tendered by Mr M Webb, Stable Foreman for Mr S Webb and Melbourne Equine Veterinary Group.

Mr S Webb was found guilty of a charge of having brought “Lochi” to the Warrnambool racecourse on the 12th August, 2002, for the purpose of engaging in the Robyn Maceys Panmure Hotel Class 4 Handicap when it was found on analysis to have had administered to it a prohibited substance as defined in AR1.

Mr Webb was fined the sum of $8,000.

The Stewards disqualified “Lochi” as third placegetter and the amended placings are:- 1st “West Highland Way”, 2nd “Scremus”, 3rd “My Decision (NZ)”, 4th “Bonoval”, 5th Spec of Silver (NZ)”.
