RACE 1: THE SKYWEST GOLDFIELDS MAIDEN – 1760M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner SONIC BLUE (K. Nowland). RHYTHM DIVINE (C. Farrell) over raced in the middle stages. Approaching the 380m HAY BURNER (S. O’Donnell) shifted outwards bumping RHYTHM DIVINE.

RACE 2: SKYWEST-THE BEST WAY TO GET AROUND WA MAIDEN – 1300M

The start of this race was delayed due to TRIBU FLYER (G.Smith) having cast its near fore plate at the barrier. As the plate was unable to be refitted the off fore plate was removed and TRIBU FLYER was permitted to race bare in front. Routine Specimens were taken from the winner POLISH PRINCE (R. Kirkup). WOCKBRO (S. O’Donnell) was slow into stride. DON’T DUAL (N. Hopwood) and TOPDRESSER (B. Mathews) pulled hard in the early stages. VEGAMAN (K. Nowland) over raced in the early stages. Near the 400m VEGAMAN (K. Nowland) shifted out carrying WOCKBRO wider on the track. SHE’S A SAVIOUR (E. Dredge) bled from both nostrils during running. Trainer Mr P. Graham was advised that SHE’S A SAVIOUR would now suffer the disabilities of ARR.53A.

RACE 3: SKYWEST PACKAGE HOLIDAYS HANDICAP - 1300M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner JASHAR BOY (G. Smith). WELL ENDOWED (C. Farrell) and SECRET MENTOR (S. O’Donnell) were slow into stride.

RACE 4: SKYWEST-W.A’S AIRLINE CLASS TWO – 1600M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner MASSINE (S. O’Donnell). AS WE WISH (R. Kirkup) was fractious in the barrier prior to the start. RUBEN’S PALACE (G. Smith) was slow into stride. AL DIDNAVADAD (C. Farrell) over raced in the early stages. Near the 400m DUBLORNUTHIN (R. Mills), when racing tight on the inside of COUNT VIRGO, struck the running rail. PEACEFUL OUTCOME (B. Mathews) lay inwards in the straight obliging the rider to change the whip into the left hand. FLYING MIRAGE (K. Nowland) raced wide throughout.

RACE 5: SKYWEST FLYING FOKKER 50 HANDICAP – 1400M

Specimens were taken from the second placed MYSTERY MORN (G. Smith). HOW DO WE KNOW (S. O’Donnell) was slow into stride. CORRUGATED IRON (R. Kirkup) jumped out at the start bumping MYSTERY MORN, which then over raced in the early stages. Near the 1200m RURAL THUNDER (R. Caddies) and SALUTE THE ACE (C. Farrell) brushed. RURAL THUNDER raced wide through out.

RACE 6: SKYWEST HANDICAP – 1760M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner NOON (E. Dredge). LAWMAKER (S. O’Donnell) jumped awkwardly, losing ground.

RACE 7: THE SKYWEST-ESPERANCE CLASS ONE – 1400M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner ALPHA BLUE (B. Mathews). STOP STRESSING (N. Hopwood) which was fractious in the barriers, was removed and following a Veterinary examination was passed fit to start. As a result the start of this race was delayed 5 minutes. RENEE MAGIC (R. Mills) was slow into stride. Near the 1100m ALPHA BLUE (B. Mathews) shifted inwards causing EXCESSIVE FORCE (K. Nowland) to steady and make contact with SUPREME SALLY (S. O’Donnell). SUPREME SALLY was buffeted between STOP STRESSING and EXCESSIVE FORCE until the 1050m before being eased, losing ground. EVIL CONGRESS (E. Dredge), which was following, was inconvenienced. On Inquiry Jockey B. Mathews was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift inwards when insufficiently clear. STOP STRESSING took the 800m turn awkwardly, shifted outwards and steadied from the heels of EXCESSIVE FORCE. SILK ‘N’ STEEL (R. Caddies) and KYOSHI (C. Farrell) raced wide throughout. BRING IT HOME BABE (G. Smith) and RENEE MAGIC raced wide from the 800m. STOP STRESSING was held up for a run between the 350m and the 150m. Apprentice C. Farrell (KYOSHI) advised that shortly after straightening, he dropped his whip when attempting to free it from the gelding’s mane.

RACE 1: THE SCENIC – 1400M

On jumping ORION STAR (P. Harvey) commenced extremely awkwardly, veered inwards and struck the hindquarters of HALOPAK (K. Hawkins) which had shifted outwards slightly. STAR OF VAIN (A. Sansom) dwelt at the start and shortly after baulked, losing ground. Shortly after the start TRIMAGIC (P. Carbery) lay outwards making heavy contact with BLEEPAK (J. Whiting). SUAVE LADY (T. Turner) raced keenly in the early and middle stages and restrained away from the heels of BLEEPAK near the 900m. Approaching the 800m STAR OF VAIN lay outwards bumping with SUAVE LADY on several occasions. In the middle stages ORION STAR and JUGAHLI (P. Farrell) over raced. At the 550m ORION STAR and STAR OF VAIN made contact. When questioned, Jockey T. Turner (SUAVE LADY) explained that after receiving a bump near the 800m, SUAVE LADY had then hung outwards and had been extremely disappointing. SUAVE LADY returned with blood in its mouth and a Veterinary examination revealed nothing amiss. Trainer Mr C. Webster advised it was his intention to have SUAVE LADY fully vetted and report any findings to the Stewards. In view of the disappointing performance, Trainer Mr C. Webster was advised that SUAVE LADY would have to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again. Leaving the 400m MAGDELAINE (L. Camilleri) and STAR OF VAIN brushed. ORION STAR had an inclination to hang inwards over the final 250m. Jockey M. Ryan (JUNGLE CURRENT) was reminded of his obligations in regards to the excessive use of the whip.

RACE 2: THE BLACKFRIARS – 1400M

Leaving the 700m, IMAGINE IF (N. Chapman), VAIN ZOE (P. King) and TOP QUEST (J. Whiting) all raced extremely tightly, bumping on several occasions. At the 400m NATIONAL SILK (T. Turner), when racing tight on the inside of CLASSIC LADY (S. Parnham), bumped with MISS HURRY KAHN (P. Harvey). At the 250m MISS HURRY KAHN was momentarily held up behind STILETTO LADY (Jason Brown). Approaching the 200m CLASSIC LADY lay inwards, slightly inconveniencing NATIONAL SILK.

RACE 3: THE ROYAL SCRIBE – 1400M

ACAREEBAH (A. Sansom) commenced awkwardly and then bumped heavily with REAL STORM (P. King) on its inside. NATIVE REGENT (T. Ikenushi) was slow into stride. BURRINGTON COOMBE (L. Camilleri) shifted outwards at the start striking the hindquarters of MAGGORO (P. Harvey). After this BURRINGTON COOMBE shifted inwards inconveniencing JAYANBEE RARE (P. Farrell) which then made contact with the hindquarters of GOLD BUDGET (S. Parnham). Near the 900m TRUE EXILE (M. Ryan) lay inwards bumping LAUDA (N. Chapman). MAGGORO attempted to jump the shadow at the 200m. At the turn into the straight MAGGORO and LAUDA brushed. ACAREEBAH, which was following, lay outwards slightly inconveniencing TRUE EXILE.

Leaving the 400m, BLINDED (Danny Miller) was momentarily held up. Approaching the 300m WILLY BE GOOD (J. Whiting) was blocked behind GRID (Jason Miller). GOLD BUDGET made the turn into the straight wide. On straightening JAYANBEE RARE had difficulty in obtaining a clear run behind BURRINGTON COOMBE, then bumped the hindquarters of GOLD BUDGET which lay inwards slightly. Shortly after this JAYANBEE RARE lay outwards making further contact with GOLD BUDGET. When questioned, Jockey P. King advised that he had allowed REAL STORM to work to the middle of the track on straightening as he believed it was the better going.

RACE 4: THE LORD LEXUS – 1600M

AQUA TAJ (P. King) raced wide throughout. Approaching the 800m MUEZZIN (J. Whiting) steadied when close to the heels of ALPINE TROOPER (P. Carbery). Leaving the 100m MUEZZIN momentarily steadied from the heels of DASH FOR COVER (N. Rudland).

RACE 5: THE KALGOORLIE BOULDER RACE ROUND – 1600M

SWIFT SPICE (K. Hawkins) threw its head on jumping and then raced fiercely in the early stages. Approaching the 1400m TRACK JESTER (C. Dredge) was buffeted from PERFECT MINX (P. King) on its outside and FACE YOUR FEARS (C. Itzstein) on its inside. Leaving the 1400m ZAHEED (Danny Miller), when being steadied, got its head in the air.

RACE 6: THE LITTLE IMAGELE – 1300M

On jumping THE TIN MAN (L. Camilleri) and KAME’S HOPE (W. Arnold) collided. At the 1100m NOBLE SKY (P. King) steadied when close to the heels of KAME’S HOPE. NOBLE SKY raced wide throughout. At the 400m MAJOR METAL (Jason Brown) when angling outwards bumped with NOBLE SKY. MAJOR METAL returned with a laceration to the off fore cannon. NOBLE SKY returned with a minor laceration to the off hind fetlock. DESERT DREAMER (Jason Miller) returned having cast both fore plates.

RACE 7: THE MAN-O-BLUE – 1200M

WESTERN TYCOON (P. Carbery) lay outwards from the 500m carrying SHANE’S BOY (A. Sansom) wide on the track. At the 300m HANDOVER steadied when close to the heels of CORPORATE ROCKET (S. Parnham). Jockey P. Carbery reported that WESTERN TYCOON had an inclination to lay outwards slightly in the early and middle stages, but approaching the 500m had commenced to hang outwards. A veterinary examination revealed WESTERN TYCOON to be lame in the off fore leg. Mr T. Martinovich advised the Stewards that it was his intention to consider changing the racing bit of WESTERN TYCOON. Trainer Mr T. Martinovich was advised that WESTERN TYCOON would require a Veterinary Certificate of Soundness before racing again. Jockey Stephen Miller reported that HANDOVER had constantly shifted ground throughout the race. KING KARIBA returned having cast its near hind plate.

RACE 8: THE DURHAM LODGE – 2000M

MAROONED PRINCE (Jason Miller) commenced awkwardly. PAINTED SILVER (K. Hawkins) threw its head on jumping, raced wide from the 1400m and returned with a cut lip. Shortly after the start WARNING TUNE (J. Oliver) and MAROONED PRINCE bumped. STORM POWER (P. King) raced wide throughout. At the 75m BOLD MIRAGE (T. Turner) and MAROONED PRINCE bumped. Trainer Mr L. Trew advised that NEWTOWN MAGIC would now be sent for a spell. Jockey P. King reported that STORM POWER hung outwards from the 800m. Trainer Mr P. Humann advised that he would now consider changing the racing bit on STORM POWER. ADVENTURER (P. Carbery) returned with a laceration to the near nostril.

RACE 1: TATT’S CLUB LIFE MEMBERS MAIDEN – 1100M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner BAWCSELLA (M. Ryan). MONSOON MASTER (C. Itzstein) and LATEST IMPULSE (B. Mathews) bumped at the start as did VEGAMAN (K. Nowland) and TRUE LOOT (R. Mills). TRUE LOOT raced greenly throughout. VEGAMAN raced wide from the 800m.

RACE 2: TATT’S CLUB COMMITTEE MAIDEN – 1400M

TRINOVA (12/1) was withdrawn by Stewards at 1.36p.m. acting on Veterinary advice when it was found to be sore in the near fore. All bets made on TRINOVA were ordered to be refunded. Deductions from winning bets were made in accordance with conditions set out in Betting Rule 19. Trainer Mr P. Graham was advised that TRINOVA would require a Veterinary Certificate of Soundness before racing again. Routine Specimens were taken from the winner VIOLENT WIND (T. Stubberfield)

OFF THE CUSH (C. Suresh) was slow into stride. Near the 350m OFF THE CUSH was momentarily held up and steadied from the heels of the tiring WOCKBRO (N. Hopwood). VITAVANN (R. Mills) raced wide from the 800m. Jockey B. Mathews reported that IN WITH A CHANCE made a respiratory noise on pulling up and may have choked down in running. Trainer Mr A. Grace advised that IN WITH A CHANCE had made a similar noise in training and as a result he had placed a tongue-tie on the gelding today. Mr Grace further stated that IN WITH A CHANCE would undergo a Veterinary examination and he would report any abnormalities to the Stewards.

RACE 3: ITT FLYGT PUMPS CLASS TWO - 1100M

Specimens were taken from the fifth placed GO ZAB GO (R. Kirkup). GO ZAB GO and DANCE WITH ANGELS (M. Ryan) bumped at the start. Near the 850m GO ZAB GO shifted in tightening MR. VAIN (H. McDougall). CLUB THUMPER (C. Itzstein) which was racing inside MR. VAIN was steadied, over reacted and lost ground. Jockey R. Kirkup was advised to allow runners to his inside more room in future. FRISCO (C. Suresh) raced wide from the 700m. MR. VAIN was blocked for a clear run from the 250m and near the 220m attempted to take a run between GO ZAB GO on its inside and KYOSHI (R. Mills) on its outside, bumping the hindquarter of KYOSHI with that gelding becoming unbalanced for a short distance. Apprentice H. McDougall (MR. VAIN) was reprimanded and advised that in future she must make sure that she has sufficient room when attempting a run. STRATEGIES (B. Mathews) lay inwards in the straight obliging the rider to stop riding and straighten the gelding.

Specimens were taken from the second placed DEPARTURE LOUNGE (C. Itzstein). AT A LOOSE END (B. Mathews) and STORMY MADDIE (M. Ryan) bumped shortly after the start, with AT A LOOSE END losing ground. WELL ENDOWED (K. Nowland) bounded in the air on jumping losing ground. DEPARTURE LOUNGE over raced in the early and middle stages. ISLAND JOKER (R. Mills) was held up for a run between the 400m and the 250m. BAYWOOD (C. Suresh) made the turn into the straight wide. AT A LOOSE END lay inwards in the straight obliging the rider to stop riding and straighten the gelding. CASH IN THE BANK (T. Stubberfield) raced wide throughout.

RACE 5: FRANK TURICH MEMORIAL HANDICAP – 1300M

Specimens were taken from the fourth placed FORCE ON COURSE (C. Suresh). SECRET MENTOR (S. O’Donnell) and SALUTE THE ACE (C. Itzstein) were slow into stride. INDEMNITY (R. Kirkup) raced wide throughout. ALTONA BOY (M. Ryan) raced wide from the 800m and near the 200m shifted inwards brushing TWINFIM (B. Mathews) on several occasions. TWINFIM was impeded for a run from the 400m. FORCE ON COURSE was held up between the 400m and the 200m. NIEBIESKI (T. Stubberfield) and TRUE EXILE (N. Hopwood) brushed on several occasions over the final 50m.

RACE 6: GOLDFIELDS TATTERSALL’S CLUB CUP – 2200M

IVORY LANE bled from both nostrils during running. Trainer Mr S. Mulcahy was advised that IVORY LANE would now suffer the disabilities of ARR.53A. Apprentice H. McDougall was granted permission to replace Jockey A. Yugovich on IVORY LANE as there was no other suitable rider available, however Apprentice McDougall was only able to claim 2kgs of her 3kgs allowance. Routine Specimens were taken from the winner MR. DEBERNALS (R. Kirkup). REDAREB (B. Mathews) pulled hard in the early and middle stages. DUBLORNUTHIN (S. O’Donnell) lay inwards in the straight obliging the rider to stop riding and straighten the gelding. Near the 200m RED RIPPLES (C. Suresh) shifted inwards bumping heavily with SONIC BLUE (K. Nowland) on a number of occasions. RED RIPPLES then had a tendency to lay inwards over the final 100m. On Inquiry Apprentice C. Suresh pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under ARR.137(a) for causing this interference and subsequently had his permit to ride in races suspended for a period of 12 days from midnight 3 August, 2002 until midnight 15 August, 2002. RED RIPPLES returned with abrasions to the near fore tendon.

RACE 7: CUMMINS CLASS ONE – 1400

Apprentice W. White was granted permission to replace Jockey A. Yugovich on EXCESSIVE FORCE as there was no other suitable rider available. Routine Specimens were taken from the winner SANDS OF DEE (R. Mills). CHAINSAW AL (M. Ryan) was fractious in the barriers becoming cast on the side rail and after being removed from the barrier was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Officer and declared fit to start. EVIL CONGRESS (B. Mathews) proved difficult to load. Near the 850m EVIL CONGRESS, which was over racing, steadied from the heels of COMMIT (C. Suresh). LAND SPEED STAR (K. Nowland), CHAINSAW ALL, PEACEFUL OUTCOME (C. Itzstein) and COMMIT raced wide from the 800m. HOW DO WE KNOW (S. O’Donnell) and SERVINCENT (R. Kirkup) were held up for clear runs from the 400m. Near the 200m EXCESSIVE FORCE (W. White) shifted inwards causing SERVINCENT to clip heels and blunder dislodging Jockey R. Kirkup. In this incident AL DIDNAVADAD (T. Stubberfield), EVIL CONGRESS, HOBO RITZ (H. McDougall) and COMMIT were all inconvenienced. On Inquiry Apprentice W. White pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under ARR.137(a) for causing this interference and subsequently had his permit to ride in races suspended for a period of 12 days from midnight 3 August, 2002 until midnight 15 August, 2002. When questioned regarding the improved performance of SANDS OF DEE (R. Mills), Trainer Mr K. Boase stated that the mare was having its second start for the stable today and he had removed the blinkers which enabled SANDS OF DEE to race in a forward position today. Mr Boase further stated that at Kalgoorlie on 27 July, 2002, Jockey A Yugovich had dropped his reins on a number of occasions in the straight and this had restricted his riding of SANDS OF DEE out over the concluding stages. He further stated that SANDS OF DEE had dropped back in class today and that the stable had not supported the mare.

LATE REPORT

Coolgardie Racing Club, Saturday, 27 July 2002 – Denver City Social Club-Carbine Maiden (1400m).

Trainer Mr R. Brown advised that blood samples taken from C’MON BEAU (A. Yugovich) revealed the gelding to be suffering from a lung infection, which he believes contributed to the gelding’s poor performance. Mr Brown further stated the C’MON BEAU would now undergo treatment.

Coolgardie Racing Club, Saturday, 27 July 2002 – Denver City Social Club-Carbine Maiden (1400m)

Apprentice K. Nowland was questioned regarding his apparent lack of vigour on HAY BURNER over the final 300m. Apprentice Nowland stated that HAY BURNER was racing in a forward position throughout and on straightening, when he attempted to pull the whip, it had become entangled in the colt’s mane. Apprentice Nowland acknowledged that he had not pushed HAY BURNER out with his hands in his normal vigor, however he had been concentrating on trying to free his whip. Mr Brown advised that he had not been satisfied with Apprentice Nowland’s whip technique over recent weeks, however efforts had been made to improve in this regard. Apprentice Nowland was directed to undergo daily sessions of whip use on the mechanical horse in an endeavor to improve his technique. Apprentice Nowland also pleaded guilty to a charge under ARR.140(b) for failing to report this incident and was subsequently fined the sum of $100.

SCUETTO (P. King) threw its head on jumping, losing ground. LITTLE CHEVAL (S. O’Donnell) was buffeted shortly after the start between SERTENTIAL (T. Stubberfield) and VIGOROUS BID (K. Hawkins). VIGOROUS BID raced keenly in the early and middle stages getting its head in the air. RARENUI (N. BOLD VOLTAGE (T. Bajramovic) was slow into stride. FLUTIQUE (D. Randall) threw its head on jumping. FIMISTON FAME (N. Chapman) and KAM PAI (P. Farrell) bumped at the start. NOBLE DASH (L. Camilleri) lay outwards throughout. ROYAL RESORT (A. Sansom) raced greenly in the straight. STORMICIDAL (Jason Miller) lay outwards over the final 250m. Jockey S. O’Donnell (MISS GANGSTER GIRL) dropped his whip passing the 200m.

POINT DAM ZERO (B. Mathieson) shifted outwards at the start causing TONES OF BLUE to steady and lose ground. PARTING SMILE (W. Arnold) and CHAPEL HILL (D. Randall) bumped passing the 1200m. CHAPEL HILL then lay outwards making the 900m turn. UP THE REVS (T. Ikenushi) raced wide throughout. Passing the 875m TONES OF BLUE lay outwards causing POWER OF ATTORNEY (N. Chapman) to steady off the heels of SECRET SEA. Passing the 700m METAL DAGGER (Jason Brown) brushed the rail and shifted outwards bumping CHAPEL HILL causing MY THORNBIRD (K. Hawkins) to race wide. RUSTY AND GOLD (S. McGruddy) was held up from the turn into the straight until the 225m. Near the 375m USAHA SETIA (L. Camilleri) was momentarily impeded behind the tiring RONCHANT (Danny Miller). VIRGINIA REEL lay outwards passing the 200m. A post race veterinary inspection of the unplaced RONCHANT revealed nothing amiss. Jockey Mr Danny Miller advised that the connections were disappointed in the performance of RONCHANT and it was their intention not to continue with the gelding’s preparation.

RACE 4: CYRIL SCREAIGH HANDICAP – 2100M

PERSONAL DRUM (S. McGruddy) threw its head in the air at the start. DURBRIDGE TOY (P. Harvey) over raced in the early and middle stages. PERSONAL DRUM raced keenly getting its head in the air for a short distance near the 1400m. STAR ALLUSION (D. Randall) raced wide throughout.

RACE 5: MALCOLM BENNETT HANDICAP – 1400M

OUR REWARD (T. Turner) was slow to begin. BEAUTIFUL DYNA (P. Carbery) was buffeted heavily at the start between MONTANA STORM (N. Chapman) and HIGHLAND CHIEFTAIN (K. Forrester). HIGHLAND CHIEFTAIN then raced keenly until near the 1000m.

HONOR MY NAME (K. Hawkins) dwelt at the start losing ground. GREY WAVE (D. Randall) commenced awkwardly. SILENT MOMENT (T. Ikenushi) and HOOKTAHAIRN (T. Turner) bumped shortly after the start. HOOKTAHAIRN raced wide throughout. Approaching the 750m CUNDERDIN KID (P. King) shifted outwards carrying HASTINGS HERO (L. Camilleri) and HOOKTAHAIRN wide. PEKAN FLYER (P. Harvey) lay inwards over the final 250m. The Club’s Veterinary Officer reported that after running DIAMOND CROWN suffered muscle cramping in the off fore.

CHARGE AND HIRE (T. Turner) and LORD OF POP (J. Oliver) were slow to begin. BLACK MARTINI (Danny Miller) commenced awkwardly and shortly afterwards bumped ARMAGH PRIDE (B. Sheehy). Approaching the 700m FIMMO’S FANTASY (P. King) rolled outwards inconveniencing SWIFT TARA (K. Hawkins). Shortly after PRECIOUS RESOURCE (P. Harvey) shifted inwards crowding REMLAP GOLD (Jason Brown). CHARGE AND HIRE was held up from the 450m until the 350m. ROCK ‘N’ RUBY (P. Carbery) was held up from the turn into the straight until being taken inwards approaching the 175m.

RACE 8: IAN JOHNSTON HANDICAP – 1300M

SHARE MY MAGIC (N. Rudland) shifted in at the start bumping ON CONDITION (R. Mills). DEBERNALES (Jason Brown) shifted outwards at the start bumping HEIR AFFAIR (J. Oliver) causing AKRAM WARRIOR (J. Whiting) to bump heavily with CLASSIC ALLUSION (T. Ikenushi). SOLDIERS ROAD (N. Chapman) raced fiercely in the early and middle stages and passing the 1250m bumped JOONDANNA LODGE (A. Sansom). Approaching the 1000m ACE O’ CLASS (S. Parnham), PENGOUS (S. McGruddy), JOONDANNA LODGE and ON CONDITION, when racing tightly, buffeted for a short distance. Passing the 1000m AIM STRAIGHT (P. Carbery) and HEIR AFFAIR bumped. Near the 600m LORD GEMINI (P. King) and MIRA MYSTERY (P. Farrell) bumped. Inside the 600m SOLDIERS ROAD, whilst continuing to race fiercely, was restrained off the heels of LORD GEMINI. SOLDIERS ROAD was blocked from the 400m until the 150m. AIM STRAIGHT had difficulty in obtaining clear running from on straightening until the 225m. Passing the 250m CLASSIC ALLUSION (T. Ikenushi) rolled inwards crowding AIM STRAIGHT which bumped MEDIC’S REFLECTION (C. Farrell). Approaching the 100m HEIR AFFAIR shifted inwards crowding CLASSIC ALLUSION. Apprentice S. Parnham reported that ACE O’ CLASS lay outwards from the 600m and made the turn into the straight wide. AKRAM WARRIOR returned with a minor laceration to the off hind.

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner UMATAKA (D. Catarino). Approaching the 1400m ROCK MY SOCKS (R. McKay) when racing keenly had to be steadied off the heels of UMATAKA, when that gelding shifted inwards. On Inquiry Jockey D. Catarino was reprimanded and advised to give runners on his inside more room in future. ASCOT EXPRESS (J. Lemon) raced wide throughout. The rider of GREGAYE, Jockey D. Tourneur reported that the gelding lay inwards over the final 800m. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GREGAYE, Jockey D. Tourneur could offer no excuses other than the gelding continually lay in over the final 800m despite his endeavours to straighten the gelding and gain a more prominent racing position. When questioned regarding the improved performance of UMATAKA, Trainer Mr R. Evans was of the opinion that the gelding had appreciated a senior rider today as opposed to its previous starts. Mr Evans also stated that UMATAKA had not raced for a period of three weeks and in that time he had been able to increase the gelding’s workload for the increase distance of today’s race, which he felt the gelding was better suited by. Trainer Mr R. Evans further stated that it was now his intention to continue racing UMATAKA over similar or increased distances for future starts.

RACE 2: GASCOYNE CONSTRUCTIONS HANDICAP – 1200M

PRIDE OF MELLAY (D. Catarino) shifted outwards at the start and bumped with GIZMO (J. Lemon). AMUSEY (T. Zanker) raced wide throughout.

RACE 3: YEAR OF THE OUTBACK HANDICAP – 1600M

This race was re-scheduled to commence at 3.15 p.m as the Racecourse Ambulance was required to leave the course. Routine Specimens were taken from the winner CROWN CHIEF (D. Dicks). BOA FORCE (T. Zanker) and SWIFT AMMO (R. McKay) were slow to begin. MONDE PRINCE (D. Grenfell) raced wide over the final 600m. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GO BUST, Jockey D. Tourneur could offer no excuses other than he felt that GO BUST had tended to race keenly in the early stages and felt this had contributed to the poor run. Trainer Mr G. Criddle was questioned regarding the performance of GO BUST and was of the opinion that the gelding was unsuited by the distance of today’s race. Mr Criddle further advised that he would now restrict GO BUST to races over a shorter distance.

RACE 4: CIVIC VIDEO HANDICAP – 1800M

This race was re-scheduled to commence at 3.45 p.m. TAN DYNASTY (D. Dicks) raced wide in the early and middle stages. Near the 600m COUNTER STRIKE (D. Tourneur) shifted outwards tightening SOARING DREAM (D. Grenfell), who had to be steadied off the heels of SECRET CAPER (D. Catarino). On Inquiry Jockey D. Tourneur was reprimanded for shifting ground when insufficiently clear. RONALDO (S. Godden) lay inwards in the straight. Trainer Mr T. Veale advised that RAREST RIVER (J. Lemon) would now be retired.

RACE 5: CARPET HOTLINE HANDICAP – 1200M

This race was re-scheduled to commence at 4.20 p.m. Routine Specimens were taken from the winner TRUE VAIN (R. McKay). PIERRE (T. Zanker) raced wide over the final 600m. The saddle on DIGGER’S REVENGE (D. Tourneur) shifted forward near the 300m placing the rider at a disadvantage until it corrected itself near the 200m. Due to the disappointing performance of HURRICANE HALO (J. Lemon), Trainer Mr D. Black advised that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.

RACE 6: GASCOYNE CLEANERS HANDICAP – 1400M

This race was re-scheduled to commence at 4.50 p.m. Routine Specimens were taken from the winner GAINLINE (D. Grenfell). BRATS (S. Godden) jumped awkwardly and then shortly afterwards dipped losing ground. DOBS (D. Dicks) and LOWER MONKTON (D. Tourneur) bumped near the 300m.

RACE 1: THE FLYING FAY – 1300M

HEARTBEAT (L. Camilleri) was fractious in the barrier prior to the start and then commenced awkwardly and after going several strides bumped BRONZE CITY (P. King). ULTEGRA (J. Oliver) was slow into stride and shortly after was bumped when TIDY BUSINESS (K. Forrester) shifted outwards. MIRAKATAC (P. Farrell) threw its head in the air shortly after the start. MIRAKATAC raced ungenerously in the middle stages and then passing the 800m was steadied and shifted outwards forcing QUEEN OF SPIRITS (Danny Miller) wide. Near the 300m HEARTBEAT and BRONZE CITY bumped. Passing the 300m Jockey P. Carbery (VALLEY OF DECISION) dropped his whip. SURROUNDINGS (T. Turner) lay inwards over the final 200m. QUEEN OF SPIRITS had a tendency to lay inwards over the final 150m. Jockey J. Oliver (ULTEGRA) was reminded of his obligation to refrain from using the whip when his mounts are out of contention. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HEARTBEAT, Trainer Mr L. Smith was of the opinion that the filly had failed to concentrate throughout the race and it was now his intention to place blinkers on the filly in an effort to improve its competitiveness.

RACE 2: THE NEVER BLUE – 1680M

CHANTI TROPEZ (L. Camilleri) commenced awkwardly. LOTS OF SECRETS (P. King) raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

RACE 3: THE OPENING TWIST – 1300M

KNYSNA (G. Smith) was buffeted on jumping between KING CANUTE (J. Whiting) and GARION DONN (Jason Miller). HOT STATS (K. Hawkins) and UNIVERSAL WARRIOR (A. Sansom) were slow into stride. PERSONAL AGENCY (S. McGruddy) dipped shortly after the start, raced ungenerously and lay outwards throughout. Trainer Ms V. Lane was advised that she would place a lugging bit on PERSONAL AGENCY in an attempt to improve its racing manner. UNIVERSAL WARRIOR raced fiercely in the early and middle stages. HOT STATS raced wide throughout.

RACE 4: THE SISTER PATRICIA – 1300M

KENTIARA (S. McGruddy) jumped awkwardly. TRUE SURRENDER (A. Sansom) and FORNEW (N. Rudland) were slow into stride. Near the 1150m MERCURIAL SMILE (S. Parnham) shifted inwards crowding REGAL TWIG (J. Whiting) which made contact with MADAM GUNDA (T. Ikenushi). REGAL TWIG raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages with its head in the air. BIRAKA GIRL (Jason Miller) lay outwards at the turn into the straight bumping KENTIARA. FORNEW raced wide throughout. MADAM GUNDA was held up from the 450m until near the 250m and shortly after was bumped when FORNEW shifted inwards after that mare was bumped by GUARDED ANSWER (P. King). MADAM GUNDA then shifted inwards making contact with GLEN WILLOW (Danny Miller), which was steadied. MADAM GUNDA then steadied from the heels of MOOMBA QUEEN (P. Carbery) and was then impeded for approximately 50m. GUARDED ANSWER was impeded between the 375m and the 250m.

RACE 5: THE BAHVELL – 1400M

PREDICT (C. Dredge) commenced awkwardly, losing ground. Shortly after the start MAJOR MACLEOD (A. Sansom) shifted outwards bumping SILVER SONIC (S. McGruddy) which bumped the hindquarters of KONJO (D. Randall). Shortly after this KING LOMOND (P. Carbery) lay inwards crowding KONJO. Near the 300m KONJO shifted outwards bumping MAJOR MACLEOD onto SILVER SONIC. TENDER VALUE (P. King) returned having cast its off fore plate.

RACE 6: THE HILL WOOD – 1000M

Apprentice E. Dredge advised that she was unable to arrive on course to fulfil her riding engagement due to her vehicle having a mechanical breakdown. As there were no other Apprentices available Stewards granted permission for Jockey K. Forrester to ride PEDAL TO METAL. TOUCHDOWN EXPRESS (S. Parnham) reared high on jumping, losing several lengths. PEDAL TO METAL (K. Forrester) dwelt at the start and then raced uncompetitively. Due to this, Trainer Mr P. Parsons was advised that PEDAL TO METAL would have to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again. QUEENS OR BETTER (J. Whiting) and GUN BARREL BLUE (P. Carbery) bumped at the start. GUN BARREL BLUE lay out throughout and returned with its tongue over the bit. Trainer Mr R. Elvy advised that he would effect a gear change to rectify this problem. QUEENS OR BETTER raced wide throughout.

RACE 7: THE MT. HENRY – 1680M

BETTIN GOLD (Stephen Miller) was slow into stride. Near the 1000m MIKIS PROSPECTOR (P. Carbery) shifted outwards causing YOPLAY (P. Harvey) to race wide. Near the 700m THOMPSON’S BAY (N. Rudland) and YOPLAY bumped on several occasions. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of YOPLAY, Jockey Mr P. Harvey stated that the horse had not travelled comfortably at any stage and was under pressure near the 700m. Trainer Mr T. Martinovich advised that in his opinion YOPLAY did not appear to be suited by racing in consecutive weeks and advised that he would not race the horse for at least a further two weeks. Passing the 700m WELL CONNECTED (K. Forrester) when taken outwards bumped WANERIE KATA (P. King) with these two horses brushing shortly after. Jockey P. King advised that in this incident WANERIE KATA changed stride and lost momentum. Approaching the 175m GREAT FINGALL (J. Oliver) rolled inwards inconveniencing TOPSTOCK (Danny Miller). TOPSTOCK then shifted outwards impeding WELL CONNECTED. Jockey Jason Oliver was advised to make a greater effort to correct his mounts when they were shifting ground.

RACE 8: THE LARWOOD’S GIFT – 1200M

DIAMOND SOLITAIRE (G. Smith) blundered on jumping and then raced fiercely with its head in the air. Shortly after the start CASSIE’S ANT (T. Turner) was crowded when METHODICAL MAN (Jason Brown) shifted outwards. WATERMEAD (Jason Miller), when being steadied approaching the 1000m, got its head in the air. MIXED LAD (S. McGruddy) pulled hard in the early and middle stages and had difficulty in obtaining a clear run in the straight. KING KAZA (A. Sansom) raced wide throughout. VAMPIRE (S. Parnham) raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Near the 700m MIXED LAD, when continuing to race fiercely, shifted outwards inconveniencing THUNDELERA (T. Bajramovic). Near the 275m JOLLY JUDE (D. Randall) and METHODICAL MAN bumped. VAMPIRE lay inwards over the final 100m.

After consultation with the connections of CHANTI DILUNE, Trainer Mr A. Mathews advised that the mare would now be retired.

Belmont Park Saturday 3 August, 2002 – Race 8. The Eat Well (1400m)

Trainer Mr J. Taylor was of the opinion that DAWN TROOPER was not suited by the distance of this race as the mare had a tendency to overrace. Mr Taylor advised it was now his intention to freshen DAWN TROOPER and race the mare over lesser distances for future starts. He further advised that an endoscopic examination revealed no anomalies.

On jumping DASH OF BURGUNDY (P. King) and LANDING STAR (S. Parnham) bumped. EVEN SO (Jason Miller) dipped on jumping. DECODER (W. Hughes) was slow into stride. LANDING STAR raced wide throughout. Approaching the 500m AT THE CLUB (D. Randall) shifted outwards bumping EVEN SO onto DECODER with LANDING STAR being obliged to race wide. At the 150m LANDING STAR momentarily steadied when close to the heels of DASH OF BURGUNDY. Close to the winning post LOOSE END (J. Whiting) rolled outwards brushing ADARKA GREY (Danny Miller).

RACE 2: THE HEALTHY DIET – 1000M

Whilst on the way to the barrier BRAZILIAN baulked dislodging Apprentice S. Parnham who took a harmless fall. On jumping STRIKING GIRL (P. King) and GOLDVIA (Jason Brown) bumped. HANSHANDI (G. Smith) commenced awkwardly. SHIRBELLA (P. Carbery) was slow into stride. Shortly after the start MASTER KEY (P. Harvey) and BLEEPAK (J. Whiting) made contact, with BLEEPAK then shifting inwards striking the hindquarters of STRIKING GIRL. BRAZILIAN raced greenly throughout. Jockey P. Carbery reported that SHIRBELLA hung inwards in the straight. Near the 450m MASTER KEY, which had a tendency to lay inwards throughout, crowded STRIKING GIRL which raced greenly throughout. STRIKING GIRL then lay inwards inconveniencing GOLDVIA. Whilst accepting that MASTER KEY was laying inwards, Stewards advised Jockey P. Harvey to make every effort to keep his mounts straight. Jockey J. Whiting reported that at the 75m BLEEPAK changed stride and lay inwards onto the running rail.

RACE 3: THE HEALTHWAY – 1600M

ANGEL LEA (P. Harvey) was slow into stride. Shortly after the start the saddle on GOLDEN MILL slipped forward placing Apprentice M. Rodd at a considerable disadvantage for the remainder of the race. When questioned, Apprentice M. Rodd explained that prior to mounting he had checked the saddle and was satisfied. Trainer Mr D. Pateman also explained that he was satisfied with the saddling of GOLDEN MILL. At the 1400m GOLDEN MILL and STORM POWER (P. King) bumped. Shortly after when the pace slackened, STORM POWER steadied and ANGEL LEA, which was following, steadied in consequence. JEUNE’S FANTASY (K. Hawkins) raced wide in the middle stages. Approaching the 400m MOONRISE (S. Parnham) and JEUNE’S FANTASY made contact. At the 300m ANCHOR THE STARS (N. Rudland) and MOONRISE bumped on several occasions. Jockey J. Oliver (TRUE STEEL) was reminded regarding the policy in relation to pace.

RACE 4: THE FRESH IS BEST – 1400M

KALGOORLIE was unruly in the mounting enclosure and due to this the gelding was led riderless to the barrier. KING KARIBA (T. Naughton) commenced extremely awkwardly throwing its head in the air and veered outwards cannoning into BEAUCOUP ARGENT (M. Rodd). BEAUCOUP ARGENT then struck the hindquarters of KALGOORLIE (D. Randall) and was severely impeded. On jumping BURRINGTON COOMBE (A. Sansom) was crowded between ELEGANTLY BLACK (P. Carbery) on its inside and HEALSVILLE (K. Forrester) on its outside. Stewards questioned Jockey P. Carbery in regards to his riding of ELEGANTLY BLACK over the concluding stages. Jockey Carbery explained that he had ridden the gelding vigorously in the straight and ELEGANTLY BLACK had given its best. The Stewards, whilst accepting that ELEGANTLY BLACK had finished in its true position, strongly reminded Jockey Carbery of his obligation to ride his mounts out fully to the line. Approaching the 250m KALGOORLIE was blocked and shifted to the inside to obtain clear running. At the 100m BEAUCOUP ARGENT lay outwards away from ELEGANTLY BLACK inconveniencing KING KARIBA.

RACE 5: H.C. CALLAGHER MEMORIAL APPRENTICES’ CHALLENGE – 1200M

An objection lodged by Jockey D. Smith rider of the second placed DECISION TO GO against CANDY SURPRISE (N.K. Chan) being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 200m was dismissed. WILLY BE GOOD (D. Randall) was slow to begin. On jumping CANDY SURPRISE commenced awkwardly shifting outwards inconveniencing MAGGORO (W. Hughes). At the start GOLDEN DILEMMA (C. Passing the 100m CANDY SURPRISE shifted inwards tightening DECISION TO GO which in turn crowded GOLDEN DILEMMA. Apprentice N.K. Chan was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift inwards. DECISION TO GO returned having cast its near fore plate.

RACE 6: BELMONT NEWMARKET – 1200M

The start of this race was re-scheduled to commence at 3.50 p.m. HONOUR THE NAME (A. Sansom) commenced awkwardly. On jumping COOL BUSINESS (Jason Brown) lay inwards with MR. CALLAHAN (K. Hawkins) shifting inwards bumping MASTER PARK (P. Harvey) which in turn contacted SENATE LEASE (S. McGruddy). SWIFT SPICE (J. Whiting) threw its head on jumping.

RACE 7: ENJOY HEALTHY EATING-APPRENTICES CUP – 2200M

On jumping OUR ANNABEL (S. McGruddy) and DE LA HOYA (T. Ikenushi) bumped. HARAANI (D. Randall) commenced awkwardly. In the early stages ALL IRISH raced keenly, shifted outwards and bumped BRIGALOW on several occasions. Near the 1450m ALL IRISH (Kumarentheran) when pulling hard had to steady from the heels of HARAANI. Near the 800m HARAANI was held tight by ALL IRISH on its outside. MERCEDARIO (S. Parnham) lay inwards in the straight. BRIGALOW hung inwards in the straight with Apprentice D. Smith using the whip in his left hand. At the 100m BATTLE WIND (C. Dredge) steadied when MERCEDARIO lay inwards. In this incident OUR ANNABEL was inconvenienced. A post race veterinary inspection revealed CHANTI DILUNE to be lame in the off fore.

RACE 8: THE EAT WELL – 1400M

DAWN TROOPER (Jason Brown) reared at the start. Shortly after the start MISS TORPAGO (P. Farrell) bumped heavily with RECALL A STORM (A. Sansom) which had commenced awkwardly striking the inside of its barrier. Passing the 900m FURNITURE (P. Carbery) raced ungenerously getting its head in the air. In the middle stages DAWN TROOPER, when racing keenly, steadied away from SARACEN BELLE (D. Smith). At the 700m SARACEN BELLE lay outwards bumping DAWN TROOPER which then made contact with SUMMER SURPRISE (C. Dredge). Passing the 200m GLITZY SHOW (J. Whiting) was held up behind RECALL A STORM. LUCE ROYALE (S. Parnham) returned with an abrasion to the off hind leg.

RACE 2: POLAR AVIATION HANDICAP – 1600M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner ROBINSON STREET (G. Lemos). JAILBREAKER (G. Gibbs) proved difficult to load and was held up from the 550m until the 300m. JUST BY CHANCE (W. Pike) was slow into stride. BOOTS ‘N’ SADDLES (J. Lemon) and WHERE’S YOUR BOOTS (B. Ball) raced wide at the turn into the straight.

RACE 3: PILBARA MANGANESE HANDICAP – 1400M

Whilst behind the barriers, a number of riders and their gear were inspected and all was found to be in order. Routine Specimens were taken from the winner YAZZMAR (P. Farrell). Near the 1100m LORRADAUX (B. Sheehy) rolled inwards carrying ASK THE CHIEF (A. Armes) in, tightening RUSSIAN GEM (G. Lemos) onto PURE JADE (P. Black) which restrained. On inquiry, it was established that LORRADAUX shifted inwards. However, Stewards were of the opinion that PRO MISS (D. Grenfell), which lost ground at this stage, had contributed to the incident. Apprentice B. Sheehy was advised to make every effort to keep her mounts straight in future. SANTANN (B. Ball) raced wide at the turn into the straight.

RACE 4: QANTAS CLASS TWO – 1200M

ALWAYS READY (W. Pike) was slow into stride. Near the 200m PERSIAN QUEEN (A. Armes) rolled inwards causing OUTPOST (B. Ball) to momentarily ease. Jockey A. Armes (PERSIAN QUEEN) was reminded of her obligation to ride her mounts out fully to the end of the race.

RACE 5: RICHARDSON/EARTHEX SPRINT – 1200M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner THINK SAFE (G. Gibbs). THINK SAFE and DEVIL’S SPEED (J. Lemon) bumped on several occasions near the 300m. LOVE IT HOT (B. Ball) raced wide over the final 400m.

RACE 6: SWAN BREWERY PILBARA MANGANESE PORT HEDLAND CUP – 2200M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner NIGHT WATCHMAN (P. Farrell). VOODOO RAVER (D. Catarino) threw its head on jumping, losing ground. JOHNNY COME LATELY (A. Armes) pulled hard in the early and middle stages. Passing the 1700m CHANGING THE GUARD (G. Lemos) rolled inwards, striking the running rail and suffered a minor laceration to the near flank. CHANGING THE GUARD shifted outwards at the turn into the straight to obtain a clear run. A post race veterinary examination of POETIC TRYST (D. Grenfell) revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore. Trainer Mr B. Keys was advised that POETIC TRYST would require a Veterinary Certificate of Soundness before racing again.

RACE 7: B.H.P. IRON ORE HANDICAP – 1400M

GOLD PARK (G. Lemos) was slow into stride. At the 475m SPEED SHOT (B. Sheehy) and FIELDWORKS (B. Ball) buffeted for a short distance. At the turn into the straight, CORPORATE NEPTUNE (P. Farrell) was blocked for a run and when shifting out bumped SPEED SHOT, which had a tendency to lay inwards. Near the 300m YAMUNINDI (G. Gibbs) when struck with the whip, veered in quickly, causing REVYAT (D. Grenfell) to steady. Jockey G. Gibbs (YAMUNINDI) was shown a film of the incident and advised to straighten his mounts more quickly in future.

GENERAL:

During a routine breath analysis conducted by West Australian Turf Club Investigator Mr P. O’Reilly, Jockey G. Cortes was found to have a blood alcohol level in excess of .02. A further analysis revealed a blood alcohol level of .013. Acting under Western Australian Turf Club policy, no direct action was taken against Jockey Cortes, however, he was not permitted to fulfil his riding engagements for the day.

RACE 1: TIM MOSEL MAIDEN – 1600M

ISLAVORN (A. Sansom) threw its head on jumping and veered outwards bumping TOROLOSA (P. Carbery). MAGIC OF FILM (N. Rudland) shifted out at the start carrying FIRE OF BEAU (Danny Miller) out with JONATHON SEAGULL (K. Hawkins) being crowded between that gelding and REDROAR (P. Farrell). THE WILLAGEE WITCH (W. Arnold) shifted inwards at the start bumping SOUTHLAND HIGH (C. Itzstein). ISLAVORN raced wide and ungenerously throughout getting its head in the air on several occasions. JONATHON SEAGULL raced wide from the 800m. SILENT MOMENT (J. Whiting) ran wide on straightening. When questioned on the improved performance of GREY WAVE (D. Randall), Trainer Ms K. Gammon advised that, in her opinion, the addition of blinkers and the gelding being ridden close to the lead contributed to the improved performance this afternoon. Stewards inquired into the apparent lack of vigour shown by Apprentice D. Randall (GREY WAVE) over the final 50m. Apprentice Randall explained that after using the whip until inside the 100m, as GREY WAVE tired he elected to ride the gelding out hands and heels. Mr M. Pateman, advised that due to concerns expressed by Stewards in recent months regarding Apprentice Randall’s technique, efforts had been made to improve in this regard. Stewards were of the opinion that GREY WAVES finishing position had not been affected, however considered that Apprentice Randall’s riding technique required further improvement. He was directed to undergo a five week training period on the mechanical horse under the supervision of Riding Master, Mr L. Millington.

RACE 2: NICK & SHERYL MAIDEN – 1250M

GALLANT RED (W. Arnold) was fractious in the barrier prior to the start. GOOD SCORE (M. Giadresco) veered outwards at the start losing ground. SCENIC EDITION (A. Sansom) lay outwards throughout. Passing the 1000m TRACK QUEEN (T. Turner) lay inwards having to be steadied off the heels of GO TOBY GO (J. Whiting). TRACK QUEEN then overreacted and veered outwards. SAILING FREE (S. O'Donnell) was held up passing the 200m and near the 175m was steadied off the heels of FRENCH MADE (Jason Brown) and taken outwards. SAILING FREE returned with its tongue over the bit. Trainer Mr N. Fletcher advised that he would attempt to correct the problem with gear changes.

RACE 3: SASH & LEIGH MAIDEN – 1000M

BLUEBIRD TATTOO (T. Turner) and ZEBEDEE SPRINGS (W. Arnold) bumped heavily at the start with ZEBEDEE SPRINGS losing ground. LOOKS A BLUE (S. Parnham) was slow to begin, then over raced in the middle stages. ZEBEDEE SPRINGS and LOOKS A BLUE bumped passing the 300m.

RACE 4: AVON TERRACE HANDICAP – 2200M

HONOR MY NAME (W. White) was slow into stride. PERSONAL DRUM (S. McGruddy) pulled hard throughout. Trainer Ms B. Lane was of the opinion that the gelding had been unsuited by the addition of blinkers. She sought and was granted permission to remove the blinkers from PERSONAL DRUM for future starts. MILLINGTON MAN (P. Carbery) raced wide throughout and lay inwards in the straight. FAVOURITE FORTUNE (Danny Miller) returned sore in the near fore. Trainer Mr A. Wilkinson advised that FAVOURITE FORTUNE would now be retired

RACE 5: LUISA HANDICAP – 1500M

ALWAYS ALLBRIGHT (A. Sansom) was slow into stride. Approaching the 400m ALPINE TROOPER (Danny Miller) and SNOOZE CONTROL (P. Carbery) bumped. Shortly after JAYANBEE RARE (P. Farrell) shifted outwards bumping ALPINE TROOPER which again bumped SNOOZE CONTROL. ON A WING (S. Parnham) lay inwards leaving the 400m and near the 350m bumped heavily with AFFILATE (J. Whiting) which in turn bumped the tiring CATCH OF THE MATCH (N. Hopwood) with AFFILATE and CATCH OF THE MATCH losing ground. On Inquiry Apprentice S. Parnham was reprimanded and advised that he was expected to make far greater effort to correct his mounts in similar circumstances. Jockey P. Carbery (SNOOZE CONTROL) reported that the mare had felt uncomfortable throughout. A Veterinary inspection revealed that SNOOZE CONTROL returned with a minor laceration to the off fore fetlock and having cast the off fore plate.

RACE 6: CAFÉ BUGATTI HANDICAP – 1250M

ANSWER ME BLUE (K. Hawkins) jumped awkwardly, losing ground. MORETON HALL (E. Dredge) was slow into stride and shortly after the start was bumped by JUNGLE LAW (P. Carbery). ANSWER ME BLUE raced wide throughout. CLASSIC ALLUSION (A. Sansom) was held up from on straightening until approaching the 175m and near the 125m bumped BANCELL MAGIC (T. Turner). Trainer Ms. C. Stelmach advised that the poorly performed JUNGLE LAW would now be retired.

RACE 7: RUSSO FAMILY HANDICAP – 1000M

MACHINE AGAIN (W. Arnold) was slow to begin. FORTUNATE SALLY (J. Whiting) and PERFECT ECLIPSE (N. Rudland) bumped passing the 700m. MR. O’GARTER (A. Sansom) raced wide throughout. Near the 225m MACHINE AGAIN, when attempting to force a marginal run inside TRIBU FLYER (P. King) and outside MR. O’GARTER, bumped heavily with TRIBU FLYER on several occasions. MACHINE AGAIN was then taken inwards to obtain clear running. Jockey W. Arnold was reprimanded and advised that he must ensure that there is a full position for him to shift into. FORTUNATE SALLY and SORCERY MISS (T. Ikenushi) bumped passing the 150m. When questioned on the apparent improved performance of HENNESSY GOLD, Trainer Mr D. Fortune advised that the gelding had been better suited racing on the pace in today’s event and it was his intention to race HENNESSY GOLD in a similar position where possible.

RACE 8: GRAEME MOSEL HANDICAP – 1400M

JOONDANNA LODGE (A. Sansom) jumped awkwardly. SERLAMPERT (N. Rudland) was slow into stride. CHER’S MAGIC (Jason Brown) pulled hard in the early and middle stages and raced wide throughout. JOONDANNA LODGE was steadied near the 450m as RIPLEY (W. Arnold) shifted outwards. RIPLEY was then held up from on straightening until passing the 200m.
