RACE 1: THE BMW 5 SERIES – 1400M

Shortly after the start MARQUIS CUT (P. King) shifted inwards bumping LAND ATTACK (C. Staples), which then shifted inwards onto LAUNDER (D. Staeck). LAND ATTACK then shifted outwards buffeting with MARQUIS CUT for a short distance. Near the 1300m LE BOSSE (T. Turner) and SULO WARRIOR (D. Randall) bumped on several occasions. Approaching the 1200m ALWAYS ALLBRIGHT (P. Carbery) commenced to race fiercely. VECCHIO SCARPONE (P. Black) raced wide throughout. Passing the 1200m MARQUIS CUT commenced to over race and steadied when close to the heels of LAND ATTACK. ALWAYS ALLBRIGHT restrained from the heels of LAND ATTACK near the 800m. POLIWHIRL (Stephen Miller) made the turn into the straight wide then lay inwards bumping VECCHIO SCARPONE, which steadied. On straightening NEAR TO TOD (S. Parnham) lay outwards inconveniencing LAND ATTACK. From the 250m METAL AS ANYTHING (C. Harvey) shifted outwards under pressure. At the 150m MARQUIS CUT hung outwards momentarily inconveniencing ALWAYS ALLBRIGHT.

RACE 2: THE BMW 7 SERIES – 1400M

MAGISSA (N. Chapman) stumbled on jumping. Shortly after the start COMMUNIQUE (C. Harvey) and IN PARADISUM (P. Harvey) bumped heavily. A BONNY DROP (C. Staples) was slow to begin. At the 1250m IN PARADISUM restrained when SHE’S A ROSE (P. King) shifted inwards as HOT HARMONY (K. Hawkins) lay outwards. MADAM PRESIDENT (A. Sansom) which was following was inconvenienced. Approaching the 1200m COMMUNIQUE, when racing tightly on the inside of HEAD WEST (P. Carbery), lay inwards crowding MAGISSA onto NICE ‘N’ SPICY (L. Camilleri), with both those horses checking. At this stage BLUE BALLERINA (T. Ikenushi) lay outwards slightly, contributing to the incident. Whilst no blame could be attached to anyone rider, all riders were advised to exercise more care. SHE’S A ROSE and XAXELLE (Jason Brown) raced wide throughout. Approaching the 500m A BONNY DROP (C. Staples) steadied when IN PARADISUM angled outwards to go forward. Passing the 400m BLUE BALLERINA lay outwards onto MAGISSA. ALYSHIA’S DAY (C. Dredge), which was following, was inconvenienced. Leaving the 200m NICE ‘N’ SPICY was disappointed for a run between SHE’S A ROSE on its outside and COMMUNIQUE on its inside. BLESSEDLY (W. Hughes) returned having cast its off hind plate during running.

RACE 3: THE MINI COOPER MILE – 1600M

COUNTRY BORN (P. King) jumped awkwardly getting its head in the air. TRACK JESTER (J. Whiting) commenced awkwardly. Passing the 400m TRUE STEEL (T. Jackman) was momentarily held up behind the tiring OLD NICK (P. Carbery). In the straight OLD NICK lay outwards.

RACE 4: THE BMW 4WD – 1500M

FANCY LADY (T. Turner) and JUNGLESSLY (D. Staeck) reared on jumping. Passing the 1200m FANCY LADY (T. Turner) steadied from BULWARK (P. Carbery). CARIBBEAN ROYALE (W. Arnold) raced wide throughout. Approaching the 500m FANCY LADY restrained when close to the heels of BULWARK and was then held up for a short distance. KYLIE NADINE (T. Ikenushi) made the turn into the straight wide. From the 250m to approaching the 100m JUNGLESSLY was blocked and unable to obtain a clear run. Approaching the 200m BULWARK was held up and angled to the outside to obtain clear running. At the 200m T’SHOMBIE (D. O’Heare) shifted outwards bumping FANCY LADY. Jockey P. King, when questioned regarding the disappointing performance of OLYMPIC, explained that the gelding had worked extremely hard for the initial 600m and this had significantly contributed to the disappointed performance. KYLIE NADINE returned having cast its off hind plate during running. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SCENIC SMILE, Trainer Mr N. Parnham stated that the filly had not travelled well throughout the race and it was now his intention to engage the services of a senior rider for future starts.

RACE 5: THE BMW 3 SERIES-SUMMER SCORCHER – 1000M

SHAKE MY HAND (W. Arnold) was slow to begin. Jockey P. Harvey reported that MODEM did not settle in the early and middle stages and in his opinion this had contributed to its mediocre performance. On straightening EBONY MAGIC (Danny Miller) was held up behind MODEM.

RACE 6: THE BMW GROUP AUSTRALIA-LA TRICE CLASSIC – 1800M

MY CHARISMA (C. Dredge) was slow into stride. A post race Veterinary examination of AWESOME ANNIE revealed the mare to be slightly lame in the off fore. Trainer Mr L. Byrne was advised that AWESOME ANNIE would require a Veterinary Certificate of Soundness before racing or trialling again.

RACE 7: BMW-PERTH CUP – 3200M

MR. TAMBOURINEMAN (L. Camilleri) veered inwards on jumping. At the 2700m SUPER MOSS (D. Staeck) and FUJIAMA (K. Forrester) buffeted. HIGGINS GOLD (A. Sansom) and MR. TAMBOURINEMAN raced wide for the first 800m. DANANMATT (T. Jackman) raced keenly in the early stages. At the 1000m FUJIAMA attempted to shift outwards and bumped SO CANNY (C. Harvey). SO CANNY then held its position and buffeted with FUJIAMA for a short distance. TIME SIGNAL (J. Powell) and EXIT LANE (J. Noske) raced wide from the 1000m. Approaching the 800m TUMERIC (J. Claite), when angling outwards, made contact with FUJIAMA. Approaching the 500m MOONRISE (P. Carbery) lay outwards bumping DANANMATT onto the tiring FUJIAMA. Approaching the 400m MOONRISE steadied from the tiring PLAY THE WHISTLE (Danny Miller). At the 75m MR. TAMBOURINEMAN and OUR ANNABEL (J. Whiting) bumped. Close to the winning post TUART’S PRIDE (N. Chapman) and DANANMATT brushed. Jockey J. Powell reported that TIME SIGNAL hung outwards throughout. A post race Veterinary inspection of TUART’S PRIDE revealed the mare to be lame in the near fore. Trainer Mr G. Ballantyne was advised that TUART’S PRIDE would require a Veterinary Certificate of Soundness before racing or trialling again.

RACE 8: THE AUTO CLASSIC COUNTRY CHALLENGE – 1500M

Shortly after the start ABU DHABI (J. Whiting) and HIGHLIGHTED (T. Turner) collided. At the 1350m OVERMASTER (K. Hawkins) steadied when tightened by TRUCULENT (Jason Brown) which was carried inwards by FRANK THE BANK (G. Smith). Passing the 1300m TOY PRINCE (P. Carbery), which was racing keenly, was steadied when crossed by FRANK THE BANK. Jockey G. Smith (FRANK THE BANK) was warned and advised to afford runners on his inside more room and when attaining the lead he is not to ease his mount. After this TOY PRINCE commenced to over race getting its head in the air. At the 1000m, TRUCULENT and TOY SALUTE (T. Ikenushi) buffeted for a short distance. At the 400m TOY SALUTE rolled inwards impeding ABU DHABI.

RACE 9: THE BMW LIFESTYLE – 1200M

On jumping BEYOND DISPUTE (K. Hawkins) shifted inwards quickly bumping LUXURY LINER (W. Hughes). BENVARO (C. Staples) knuckled shortly after the start. Passing the 800m STARJAH (P. Harvey), which was racing keenly, steadied from GRAND CAVALIER (L. Camilleri). LUXURY LINER was held up for a short distance near the 200m. At the 150m LUXURY LINER was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of Jockey D. O’Heare (IN THE CLEAR).

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner GUN BARREL BLUE (D. Oliver). Passing the 200m COROONLIER was momentarily blocked for a clear run and shortly after Jockey C. Itzstein dropped his whip.

RACE 2: MT. BARKER TYRE & EXHAUST HANDICAP – 2000M

VOLANT MISS (J. Lemon) shifted out at the start, bumping NICANTIQUE (B. Sheehy). Passing the 700m VOLANT MISS and PUREIGN (C. Itzstein) bumped. WISE SCHOLAR (David Oliver) and NICANTIQUE raced tightly over the final 75m.

RACE 3: WALLACE ENGINEERING HANDICAP – 1300M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner TRIPLE SHOT (M. Molloy). On jumping SALVESON (J. Lemon) threw its head, losing considerable ground. As SALVESON had offended in this manner at its previous two starts, Trainer Mr G. Hughes was advised that the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again. SALVESON lay inwards over the final 200m.

RACE 4: CUDDYARUP MAIDEN – 1300M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner GOLD DETECTOR (B. Mathieson). On jumping LITTLE EMPEROR (M. Molloy) veered outwards, bumping heavily with CLEAR SYMBOL (R. Finger) with that filly shifting out making contact with ADDADASH (S. Sheehy). CAMPBELL’S SPIRIT (W. White) was slow into stride. Passing the 900m CLEAR SYMBOL and ROYAL YANKEE (David Oliver) bumped. PASSION POP (C. Itzstein) raced wide at the turn into the straight. On straightening HIDDEN JOKER (Damian Miller) shifted outwards, bumping LITTLE EMPEROR. Trainer Mr J. Jachmann was questioned regarding the improved performance of GOLD DECTOR. Mr Jachmann stated that at the gelding’s previous start, it had raced wide throughout after drawing a wide barrier and today, he had instructed his rider, Miss B. Mathieson, to ride GOLD DETECTOR with patience and endeavour to get a run through the field. Further, Mr Jachmann advised that it would be his intention to step GOLD DETECTOR up in distance and believed that the gelding was suited to racing over a middle distance.

RACE 5: MT. BARKER VETERINARY HOSPITAL SPRINT – 1100M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner TAMOSHI (J. Lemon). TAMOSHI (J. Lemon) was slow into stride. GENEVA CONVENTION (David Oliver) pulled hard in the early and middle stages, and lay outwards between the 800m until the 400m. Trainer Mr P. Western was questioned regarding the improved performance of TAMOSHI. He stated that at TAMOSHI’s previous start, the gelding had returned showing signs of sole bruising to its front feet and as such, with corrective shoeing, he had placed pads on the gelding and was of the opinion this had contributed to the improved performance.

RACE 6: GEORGE TAYLOR MEMORIAL HANDICAP – 1850M

SPIRITED BEAUTY (B. Mathieson) was withdrawn at 4.25p.m. when it was established the mare had suffered an injury to its left eye when en route to the course. VIGOROUS BID (K. Nowland) and CHARGE DOWN (David Oliver) bumped at the start. PICTURE SKEW (C. Itzstein) was slow into stride. MOORDIYAP (M. Molloy) made the crossing at the 1300m awkwardly. Passing the 900m ARCTIC NATIONS (S. Sheehy) shifted outwards bumping MOORDIYAP when racing fiercely. PICTURE SKEW raced wide from the 800m. Near the 700m ARCTIC NATIONS shifted inwards crowding MR. JOHNSON (J. Lemon) which in turn shifted inwards causing the tiring OL’ THUNDER (Damian Miller) to be restrained. Jockey S. Sheehy (ARCTIC NATIONS) was a film of this incident and advised that he must straighten his mounts more quickly in future. Passing the 250m MR. JOHNSON shifted outwards, bumping CHARGE DOWN.

RACE 1: ST. JOHN AMBULANCE MAIDEN – 1100M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner ROTTERDAM (D. Randall). On jumping ROTTERDAM shifted outwards away from BEFORE SUNRISE (R. Finger) bumping ANOTHER MARY (B. Sheehy) outwards, which dipped off the heels of FINE STRATEGY (D. O’Heare). MEDICAL JANE (K. Nowland) jumped awkwardly. Racing to the 800m turn ANOTHER MARY commenced to hang outwards considerably and near the 600m caused FINE STRATEGY to be steadied. At the turn into the straight, ANOTHER MARY, which had continued to hang outwards, caused FINE STRATEGY to be carried outwards with the tiring IRISH PLEASURE (C. Fox) having to be steadied. ROTTERDAM lay inwards near the 100m obliging its rider, Apprentice D. Randall, to stop riding and straighten his mount. Due to the racing manner of ANOTHER MARY, Trainer Mr K. Brown was advised that the filly would have to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again.

RACE 2: MITAVITE CLASS 5 – 1200M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner IVORY MAN (D. O’Heare). Shortly after the start DEVIL’S SPEED (D. Oliver) attempted to buck for some distance. Trainer Mr D. Solly was advised that DEVIL’S SPEED would have to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again. When questioned regarding his ride on WARNING TUNE, Apprentice W. White advised that he had been instructed to work into the race from the 800m, however despite its effort the gelding had failed to respond to this style of riding. WARNING TUNE lay outwards at the turn into the straight. Near the 300m JESTERVILLE (L. Howlett) rolled inwards inconveniencing WARNING TUNE. WARNING TUNE was then blocked for a clear run for a short distance and had a tendency to lay outwards over the final 75m.

RACE 3: ALBANY STOCK FEEDS CLASS THREE – 1200M

SALVESON (D. Skerrett) reared at the start, losing ground. WATER CARRIER (J. Lemon) jumped awkwardly. Near the 1000m WILDPRO (L. Howlett) shifted inwards bumping SALVESON. Near the 300m RUSTI JANE (D. Oliver) shifted outwards to obtain a clear run inconveniencing SALVESON. SALVESON was blocked for a clear run from the 275m and near the 250m shifted outwards bumping WATER CARRIER, which in turn shifted outwards bumping WILDPRO. ZEDRICH TIMING (M. Molloy) had a tendency to lay inwards in the straight and near the 150m LAKOTA CHIEF (W. White) lay inwards inconveniencing ZEDRICH TIMING. LAKOTA CHIEF bled from both nostrils during running. Trainer Mr M. Byatt was advised that LAKOTA CHIEF would now suffer the disabilities of ARR.53A. When questioned regarding the improved performance of RUSTI JANE, Trainer Mr A. McGuinniss advised that RUSTI JANE had pulled up with back soreness after its run at Mt Barker on 27 November, 2002 and following chiropractic treatment the mare, at its last start on 17 December, 2002, had lacked fitness due to the mare missing a period of work due to having this treatment. Mr McGuinniss advised that he had increased RUSTI JANE’s workload and was of the opinion that this had suited the mare today.

RACE 4: PETER WATSON MLA CLASS D – 1600M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner JEV FORCE (M. Molloy). An objection lodged by Jockey J. Lemon the rider of the fourth placed TRUE DAWN against the third placed SPIRITED BEAUTY (M. Giadresco), alleging interference near the 700m and near the 200m was upheld, the amended placings being:

PRO MISS (D. Randall) threw its head on jumping. SPIRITED BEAUTY was slow into stride. DISTINCT TIMES (D. Oliver) jumped inwards at the start bumping ISLAND ATTACK (R. Finger). APAKALA (E. Dredge) raced fiercely in the early and middle stages. PUREIGN (C. Itzstein) raced ungenerously for a short distance near the 1300m. Approaching the 700m SPIRITED BEAUTY shifted outwards carrying TRUE DAWN wide. Passing the 175m SPIRITED BEAUTY, when struck with the whip, shifted outwards causing TRUE DAWN to steady outwards off that mare’s heels. Apprentice M. Giadresco was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift ground whilst using his whip.

RACE 5: BETHANY CLASS FOUR – 1600M

On jumping TAQUAMENAW (S. Sheehy) shifted outwards bumping IRISH WHISTLER (D. Randall), which lost ground. PIEDNIPPIE BOY (D. Oliver) was slow into stride. AIR COMBAT (B. Sheehy) raced wide in the early and middle stages. NICANTIQUE (E. Dredge) raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. Near the 300m HAUTE BRION (M. Molloy), when blocked for clear run, shifted outwards bumping heavily with TAQUAMENAW. Apprentice M. Molloy was shown a film of this incident and advised that he must shown more care when shifting ground in future. Near the 150m PIEDNIPPIE BOY lay inwards momentarily inconveniencing SCRAP METAL (D. O’Heare). IRISH WHISTLER bore outwards under pressure over the final 100m.

RACE 6: CITY OF ALBANY CUP – 1600M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner MAESTRO’S MAGIC (E. Dredge). PREDICT (W. White) proved difficult to load delaying the start of this race. MIRROR MOON (D. Randall) was slow into stride. BAAN RIM PA (K. Nowland) raced extremely wide at the turn into the straight.

RACE 7: FORMATION HOMES CLASS D – 1200M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner SPEED DANCER (J. Lemon). FRENCH BEAUTY (D. Oliver) and LITTLE BILL (K. Nowland) were slow into stride. Passing the 900m KITTY KITE (C. Fox) shifted inwards carrying INGODA PRINCE (W. White) inwards causing ADMIRAL BLACK (C. Itzstein) to restrain and lose ground. On Inquiry Jockey C. Fox pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under ARR.137(a) for causing this interference and was suspended from riding in races for a period of 11 days from midnight 26 December, 2002, and to expire midnight 6 January, 2003. KENHOLM (D. Randall) which was following was inconvenienced. RON BON JUNGLE (D. O’Heare) pulled hard in the early and middle stages. LITTLE BILL raced wide at the turn into the straight. Passing the 100m SUPER PAK (E. Dredge) steadied off the heels of the tiring RON BON JUNGLE. KITTY KITE bore outwards over the final 100m when under pressure. Apprentice E. Dredge (SUPER PAK) was reminded of her obligations with regards to the use of her whip when her mounts are out of contention. Near the 100m LITTLE BILL, when making ground quickly, steadied when ADMIRAL BLACK shifted outwards.

FINE:

Race 3. Trainer A. McGuinniss $200 ARR.175(k) for breaching 140(c) in that he failed to report that RUSTI JANE had pulled up with back soreness following its unplaced run at Mt Barker on 27 November, 2002.

RACE 1: FRUIT BARN DONNYBROOK MAIDEN – 1400M

MY HALO (C. Harvey) shifted inwards bumping RED DIRT GIRL (N. Chapman) at the start. MIRAKATAC (Danny Miller) jumped awkwardly, getting its head in the air and lost ground. Passing the 1200m REGAL TACTIC (A. Sansom) got its head in the air and lay inwards bumping AFRICAN PARK (P. Carbery). Near the 1100m MAGNIFICENT SPEED (K. Nowland) and MIRAKATAC bumped on several occasions. Approaching the turn into the straight, MAGNIFICENT SPEED shifted outwards bumping ULTEGRA (B. Mathieson) onto MIRAKATAC. Near the 250m RED DIRT GIRL lay outwards inconveniencing MY HALO. Shortly afterwards MAGNIFICENT SPEED shifted inwards bumping MY HALO. Apprentice K. Nowland (MAGNIFICENT SPEED) was shown a film of this incident and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground under similar circumstances. MAGNIFICENT SPEED then lay inwards over the final 200m. A post race Veterinary examination of HAPPY HANNA revealed the filly had returned with an elevated heart rate. Trainer Mr S. Wallace was advised that HAPPY HANNA would have to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again and would also require a Veterinary Certificate of Soundness before racing or trialling again.

RACE 2: DAWSON CONTRACTING MAIDEN – 1200M

After reviewing the Stewards’ patrol film in conjunction with the Starter and Jockey J. Claite, DANGER HAND was declared a non-starter under ARR.134A, when it was unable to extracate its head from under the near side foot rail in its barrier. All bets on DANGER HAND were ordered to be refunded. Deductions from winning bets were made in accordance with the conditions set out in Betting Rule 19. GLITCH (P. King) stood flat footed, missing the start by a considerable distance. Trainer Mr S. Wallace was advised that GLITCH would have to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again. GLITCH returned having cast its near fore plate during running. MIDNIGHT MAGIC (D. Randall) and TRIB’S GIRL (A. Sansom) bumped at the start. The saddle on MYSTIC BISQUE (N. Chapman) slipped forward shortly after the start, placing that rider at a disadvantage throughout, with the mare having to be steadied from the heels of SECRET DASH (W. Arnold) near the 1000m. TRIB’S GIRL over raced in the early and middle stages and near the 700m bumped MIDNIGHT MAGIC. Passing the 200m NOVA PRESS (P. Carbery) lay inwards impeding MYSTIC BISQUE, which was held up for a short distance and then taken inwards to obtain clear running.

RACE 3: DONNYBROOK BRIDGESTONE TYRE CENTRE MAIDEN – 1200M

CONTRADICTION was unruly when doing its preliminary and struck the outside running rail dislodging Apprentice T. Ikenushi, who took an apparent harmless fall. CONTRADICTION was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race. KELSO BAY (J. Claite) jumped awkwardly, losing ground. CONTRADICTION was slow into stride. Shortly after the start, I’M A SKITE (E. Dredge) and STATO FORCE (C. Harvey) bumped. Near the 550m JACAMAR STAR (J. Whiting) mis-strode. GARANGULAR (Jason Miller) raced greenly throughout and near the 325m shifted inwards quickly. A post race Veterinary examination of KELSO BAY revealed the colt to be slow to recover. Trainer Mr M. Bairstow was advised that KELSO BAY would have to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again. Mr Bairstow advised the Stewards that it would now be his intention to retire KELSO BAY.

RACE 4: WESFARMERS LANDMARK/DONNYBROOK FARM SERVICE MAIDEN – 1675M

BOORARA SPIRIT (6/1) was withdrawn by Stewards at 12.43 p.m. when Stewards were advised by the Trainer Mr P. The settlement of doubles bets was made subject to the conditions set out in Betting Rule 19. COUNT KONAN (A. Sansom) was crowded between MR. POWERHOUSE (L. Camilleri) and BOLD STAR (B. Mathieson) at the start with that gelding losing. VINTAGE REIGN (G. Smith) raced wide in the early and middle stages. Near the 900m VINTAGE REIGN and MISS KELBRAD (D. Randall) bumped. Passing the 500m WORD POWER (K. Forrester) steadied and shifted inwards away from the heels of the tiring ARTIFICIAL (P. Carbery) resulting in MR. POWERHOUSE being crowded and losing ground. Jockey K. Forrester was shown a film of this incident and advised to exercise more caution when shifting ground under similar circumstances. In the straight WORD POWER changed stride on several occasions. MISS KELBRAD returned having cast its off hind plate during running.

RACE 5: OLD GOLDFIELDS CIDER FACTORY HANDICAP – 1100M

THE GAFFER (E. Dredge) was fractious in the barriers then jumped awkwardly. BAY WARRIOR (P. King) struck the near side gate on jumping losing ground. MR. KRAKAJAC (K. Nowland) threw its head on jumping then raced keenly in the early stages. OSTRAVAL (L. Camilleri) pulled in the early and middle stages.

RACE 6: BUSINESS HOUSES-DONNYBROOK CUP – 1200M

POLPAK (G. Smith) blundered badly on jumping. BRONZE HAUL (L. Camilleri) threw its head on jumping striking the rider in the face, placing him at an extreme disadvantage throughout. DAWN TROOPER (J. Hustwitt) pulled in the early and middle stages. When being questioned regarding the disappointing performance of RON BON JUNGLE, Jockey C. Harvey advised that it was his opinion that the gelding had choked down during running. Trainer Mr P. Parsons has advised his intention to apply a tongue-tie to RON BON JUNGLE prior to starting again. FIMMO’S FANTASY (P. Carbery) lay outwards throughout. POLPAK lay inwards over the final 200m and near the 50m shifted inwards crowding PAGAN KING (P. Hall) onto DAWN TROOPER. Apprentice L. Camilleri was examined by the Club’s Medical Officer and passed fit to fulfil his remaning riding engagements.

RACE 7: DONNYBROOK HARDWARE & RURAL HANDICAP – 2200M

ELANDEVER (D. Randall) slipped on jumping, losing ground. SUPERSTAD (T. Turner) pulled hard in the early and middle stages. Passing the winning post the first time HALOPAK (K. Hawkins) and SHOOTERS ALL ROUND (K. Forrester) buffeted for a short distance. Near the 500m KONTIKI SIR (J. Whiting) rolled inwards bumping SHOOTERS ALL ROUND, resulting in Jockey K. Forrester (SHOOTERS ALL ROUND) dropping his whip. Near the 450m HALOPAK rolled inwards with IT’S A LEGEND (T. Ikenushi) having to be steadied. On straightening SMILE TIME (L. Camilleri) clipped the heels of THORNY ROSE (Stephen Miller) and shifted outwards quickly bumping heavily with ELANDEVER. On Inquiry Apprentice L. Camilleri was advised to exercise more care under similar circumstances. Apprentice D. Randall (ELANDEVER) dropped his whip near the 200m. On Inquiry Jockey T. Turner (SUPERSTAD) and Apprentice T. Ikenushi (IT’S A LEGEND), were advised that when in a position to maintain a suitable pace, they would be expected to do so where possible.

RACE 8: DIRECT FUEL SUPPLIES HANDICAP – 1400M

PARIS BANK (G. Smith) and GREY PEPPER (P. King) were slow to begin. PARNELL (K. Nowland) jumped awkwardly. SYMBOL SAM (S. Parnham) raced wide throughout and near the 700m bumped with PARIS BANK. On straightening CORPORATE DIAMOND (A. Sansom) was held up for a short distance.

Passing the 100m TICK THE BOX rolled inwards causing BRAESIDE BULLET to momentarily steady. Jockey D. Tourneur (CORPORATE KATE) was advised to ensure that he rides his mounts out fully in future.

RACE 3: SLATER GARTRELL SPORTS HANDICAP – 1300M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner FORTINO BAY (R. McKay). KOMPARTI BAYLO (A. Armes) slipped on jumping, losing ground. BLOCK ‘N’ TACKLE (R. Burnett) was slow into stride. NOVA SCOTIA (K. Gladwin) raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Passing the 200m KAAPDANCE (C. Farrell) lay inwards and had to be steadied outwards off the heels of BEAU FLIPPA (R. Quartermaine).

RACE 4: SHORELINE OUTDOOR WORLD SPRINT – 1200M

FAMILY PRESSURE (A. Ng) jumped awkwardly. BACKBURNER (R. Burnett) and ROYAL CRYSTAL (D. Tourneur) bumped shortly after the start. BACKBURNER raced wide throughout. Trainer Mr H. Wade advised that FAMILY PRESSURE, which had performed poorly, would now be sent for a spell.

RACE 5: PATIENCE BULK HAULAGE HANDICAP – 1800M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner BIG BANK (C. Farrell). BIG BANK was slow into stride. Near the 100m MALWOOD (A. Ng) was impeded and had to steady when LATEST SOVEREIGN (A. Armes) shifted inwards. Jockey A. Armes was advised to make a greater effort to keep her mounts straight when shifting ground. When questioned regarding the unplaced performance of ZEDAMOSS, Jockey R. Quartermaine was at a loss to explain the run other than to say that the gelding had been under pressure from the 800m. Trainer Mr R. Cowl Jnr advised that ZEDAMOSS had not been suited to being ridden along hard in the early stages of the race. It was his intention in future to have ZEDAMOSS ridden off the pace where possible. When questioned regarding the unplaced performance of HOME DIRECT (T. Zanker), Trainer Mr T. Clancy advised that at the gelding’s previous start at Geraldton on 19 December, 2002 the gelding was able to lead unchallenged. However today HOME DIRECT had to work hard to gain a forward position, and as such was under pressure from the 800m. It was his intention to now lighten HOME DIRECT’s workload. A subsequent Veterinary examination of HOME DIRECT revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 6: J & D HALLINAN REFRIGERATION HANDICAP – 1800M

CHANTESSA (T. Zanker) reared at the start. GREGAYE (R. McKay) was slow into stride. IMPAIRE (R. Burnett) raced wide over the final 600m.

RICKITAVE raced wide throughout. Near the 900m TRIBAL JUSTICE (W. Arnold), when racing keenly, steadied away from SAMURAI STAR getting its head in the air. Passing the 800m BOTANIX (C. Dredge) and RICKITAVE bumped on several occasions. Approaching the 200m Jockey P. Black (SAMURAI STAR) dropped his whip. Leaving the 200m MONEY IS MAGIC lay inwards. At the 100m SHE’S CAPTIVATING (L. Camilleri) lay inwards brushing SAMURAI STAR.

RACE 2: THE CONNOISSEUR SUPER PREMIUM ICE CREAM – 1800M

OUR PARTISAN (66/1) was withdrawn by the Stewards at 1.35 p.m. acting on Veterinary advice. All bets made on OUR PARTISAN were refunded. Trainer Mr P. Grace was questioned in relation to the withdrawal of OUR PARTISAN. Mr Grace explained that the gelding had suffered constantly with sinusitis and was under Veterinary attention. He had observed a slight discharge in the mounting enclosure, but was confident that OUR PARTISAN was fit to take its place in the field. Trainer Mr P. Grace was fined the sum of $200 under ARR.140(a) for failing to advise the Stewards of a condition which might have affected the performance of OUR PARTISAN. Approaching the 200m EDITION (P. Harvey) bumped with the tiring HONAMI (L. Camilleri). An Inquiry was opened and adjourned into the running and riding of HONAMI. After taking evidence from Trainer Mr C. Webster and Apprentice L. Camilleri, the Inquiry was adjourned to 11 a.m. Monday, 30 December, 2002. Trainer Mr P. Grace advised the Stewards that OUR PARTISAN would now undergo a Veterinary procedure in an attempt to remedy the sinusitis.

RACE 3: CRYSTAL SLIPPER STAKES – 1200M

MACIC ACES (P. King) commenced awkwardly and then shifted outwards bumping SHE’S ENCHANTING (P. Carbery). CLAISE BROOK (S. Parnham) scrambled at the start. Shortly after the start LADY CABERNET (L. Camilleri) and OCEANIC STAR (Jason Miller) collided. Passing the 1125m ZOLINDI (D. Staeck) lay outwards bumping GOLD CHASER (K. Forrester). Passing the 800m SHE’S ENCHANTING steadied when close to the heels of OCEANIC STAR. Approaching the 500m ZOLINDI, which was racing greenly, shifted inwards impeding MAGIC ACES and shortly afterwards shifted outwards crowding OCEANIC STAR, which then bumped with BUSHRANGE (C. Harvey) on several occasions. At the 150m CLAISE BROOK lay outwards. A post race Veterinary examination of GOLD CHASER revealed no abnormalities. A post race Veterinary examination of ZOLINDI revealed the filly to have returned with lacerations to the near and off hinds. Trainer Mr L. Luciani advised that ZOLINDI would now be sent for a spell.

RACE 4: THE PETER’S TRUMPET – 1100M

Apprentice S. Parnham reported that just prior to a start FEMME had become fractious and lunged forward striking its head on the barrier. As a consequence FEMME was then slow to begin. On jumping UNCLE ROBERT (K. Forrester) and NATIVE SILVER (P. King) made contact and again near the 1000m. At the 950m UNCLE ROBERT rolled inwards brushing PRECIOUS LADY (P. Carbery) which in turn shifted inwards inconveniencing FEMME. Approaching the 700m FEMME, when racing fiercely, veered outwards across the heels of PRECIOUS LADY bumping and carrying MARKET WRAP (Jason Brown) wide on the track. JACOBA (J. Whiting) raced wide throughout. Approaching the 500m OFF THE SHELF (T. Turner), which was racing keenly, steadied away from FEMME. At the 450m UNCLE ROBERT and PRECIOUS LADY bumped. Leaving the 400m MARKET WRAP was momentarily held up behind JACOBA. At the 75m FEMME was struck over the nose by the whip of Jockey Stephen Miller (MERCURY HALO) which had shifted outwards.

RACE 5: A.J. SCAHILL STAKES – 1400M

IRISH PRIDE (S. Parnham) dipped at the start. On jumping EARLY EXPRESS (P. Harvey) shifted outwards brushing SUSPICION (L. Camilleri). Over the concluding 200m IRISH PRIDE had a tendency to lay inwards.

RACE 6: A.T.A. STAKES – 2200M

TUART’S PRIDE (N. Chapman) was fractious in the barrier prior to the start. POLISH PLEASURE (T. Turner) reared at the start. SON OF VASAC (P. Harvey) threw its head on jumping, losing ground. Passing the winning post the first time POLISH PLEASURE raced fiercely. At the 800m KING ELVIS (K. Hawkins) rolled inwards bumping FUJIAMA (D. Staeck), which then steadied away from the heels of THUNDER HAWK (Jason Brown) and shifted outwards quickly, making further contact with KING ELVIS. SON OF VASAC, which was following, was inconvenienced and shifted outwards carrying TUART’S PRIDE wide on the track. Near the 400m POLISH PLEASURE and MR. TAMBOURINEMAN (L. Camilleri) raced tightly for a short distance. At the 450m PLAY THE WHISTLE (Danny Miller) momentarily steadied when MR. TAMBOURINEMAN rolled inwards. Leaving the 400m MERLOS (J. Whiting) and THUNDER HAWK bumped. On straightening MR. TAMBOURINEMAN was held up before shifting to the outside to obtain clear running. When questioned as to the reason for PLAY THE WHISTLE losing its position near the 500m, Jockey Danny Miller explained that at that stage of the race, when the field quickened, he was unable to maintain his position and lost ground. A post race Veterinary examination of MERLOS revealed the gelding to have returned with a laceration to the off hind hock.

RACE 7: THE PETER’S CHOC WEDGE – 1200M

MIDAS ROSE (P. Hall) got its head over the side partition of the barrier necessitating a slight delay to the start of this race. TAGLIONI (J. Whiting) commenced extremely awkwardly and threw its head losing ground. REPERTOIRE (Jason Miller) dipped on jumping. Shortly after the start TIME IS MONEY (P. King) was buffeted between ANNAPAK (T. Ikenushi) and MIDAS ROSE. MIDAS ROSE, PRINCESS NEILLENA (Jason Brown) and DANTE’S KALISTA (A. Sansom) raced wide throughout. Leaving the 600m REPERTOIRE over raced and steadied away from DANNI’S CRYSTAL (L. Camilleri). On straightening OPAL BRIDGE (P. Carbery) was held up and bumped with NAME THAT TUNE (R. McKay) on several occasions. In the straight DANTE’S KALISTA had a tendency to lay inwards. Leaving the 200m TIME IS MONEY was blocked and unable to obtain a clear passage. TIME IS MONEY returned having cast both fore plates during running.

RACE 8: THE PETER’S GIANT SANDWICH – 1100M

At the start PULCINELLA (J. Whiting) shifted outwards brushing REGAL RAIDER (P. Carbery). LONE LOVER (S. Parnham) threw its head on jumping. At the 800m LONE LOVER steadied when close to the heels of REGAL RAIDER. Approaching the 600m FAMILY DREAMS (L. Camilleri) shifted inwards bumping REGAL RAIDER on several occasions. Approaching the 200m LONE LOVER lay inwards. Passing the 200m FAMILY DREAMS shifted outwards inconveniencing LONE LOVER which then brushed PRINCE OF CHARM. Apprentice L. Camilleri was reprimanded and advised that when his mounts shift ground he is to stop riding and straighten them in future.

Ikenushi) shifted outwards at the start bumping SCINTILLATING (S. Parnham). ROSE OF SOMERSET (J. Whiting) was slow to begin. Shortly after the start MAGNIFICENT SPEED shifted inwards bumping SCINTILLATING. Near the 900m PRETTY WITCH, when racing keenly, got its head in the air and shifted inwards crowding PRICE LIST, which brushed the running rail. PRETTY WITCH then continued to race fiercely getting its head in the air on a number of occasions. MAJOR CAVA (K. Forrester) lay outwards from the 600m. WHAT A LEGEND (A. Taylor) lay outwards over the final 250m.

RACE 2: TIMES PRINT MAIDEN – 1100M

GLASS MAKER (T. Jackman) was unruly in its preliminary and then reared on several occasions behind the barrier, breaking free of the barrier attendants. GLASS MAKER was recaptured and passed fit to start by the Club’s Veterinary Officer. MOONLINE (P. Farrell) shifted outwards at the start bumping WEST RIVER SPARK (T. Skinner). LITTLE HALO (T. Turner) shifted inwards at the start bumping CORPORATE MELDENE (P. Knuckey) and shortly after the start CORPORATE MELDENE was crowded when racing between LITTLE HALO and SECRET DASH (J. Claite). Approaching the 1000m ROSETTA MISSION (M. Giadresco) shifted inwards tightening SECRET DASH, which was restrained inwards bumping PHAROAH SMILE (D. Staeck). On Inquiry Apprentice M. Giadresco pleaded guilty to a charge under ARR.137(a) for having caused this interference and had his permit to ride in races suspended for a period of 12 days from midnight 26 December, 2002 until midnight 7 January, 2003. GREY CAT (C. Harvey) hung outwards throughout and on straightening shifted outwards quickly, having to be restrained off the heels of OUR PAL BLUEY (P. Carbery). A Veterinary inspection of GREY CAT revealed the filly to have lacerations to the inside of its mouth. Trainer Mr H. Parsons was advised that GREY CAT would have to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again. CORPORATE MELDENE lay outwards on straightening. GLASS MAKER hung outwards on straightening and then raced erratically over the final 300m. A Veterinary inspection revealed GLASS MAKER to be sore in the near fore. Trainer Miss A. Smith was advised that GLASS MAKER would require a Veterinary Certificate of Soundness before racing or trialling again and would have to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again.

RACE 3: BUNBURY HERALD HANDICAP – 1200M

SUPER CHANT (D. Staeck) was slow into stride. JOY OF THE DANCE (T. Jackman) bounded on jumping. COOL EYED (T. Turner) threw its head shortly after the start. LOM TRICE (N. Chapman) raced fiercely in the early stages. JOY OF THE DANCE pulled hard in the early stages. LOM TRICE returned having shifted the near fore plate.

RACE 4: TIMES REAL ESTATE MAIDEN – 1400M

BOORARA SPIRIT (M. Giadresco) dipped on jumping. MR. POWERHOUSE (T. Ikenushi) was slow into stride. BRAVE DEMUS (Jason Miller) shifted inwards at the start bumping CAVO DORO (T. Turner) onto CHIEFSTON (B. Mathieson). JOLLAIR (P. Carbery) commenced to pull hard passing the 1200m. Approaching the 225m CAVO DORO shifted outwards bumping BROWN RANGE (C. Harvey). BOORARA SPIRIT had a tendency to lay inwards over the final stages. Apprentice J. Pouillet (ALYSHIA’S DAY) and Trainer Mr B. Newnham were questioned over the excessive use of the whip over the final 200m when the mare was out of contention. Apprentice J. Pouillet was found guilty to a charge under ARR.137A(2)(b) and fined $100. Trainer Mr B. Newnham pleaded guilty to a charge issued under ARR.137A(3) for having issued instructions which led to a breach of ARR.137A(2)(b) and was fined $150.

RACE 5: HARVEY REPORTER HANDICAP – 2200M

DUKESVILLE (B. Mathieson) was slow to begin. THORNY ROSE (Stephen Miller) over raced in the early and middle stages, throwing its head near the 1400m. KONTIKI SIR (J. Whiting) lay inwards passing the 800m bumping I’M TOO DEADLY (P. Carbery).

RACE 6: SOUTH WESTERN TIMES HANDICAP – 1200M

HONOUR YOUR DEBT (14/1) was withdrawn by the Stewards at 2.52 p.m. after it was established that the gelding had not arrived on course. All bets made on HONOUR YOUR DEBT were refunded. Deductions from winning bets were made in accordance with the conditions set out in Betting Rule 19. Stewards opened and adjourned an Inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the non-arrival of HONOUR YOUR DEBT. LE BOSSE (T. Turner) and PARK ‘N’ PARTY (P. King) were extremely fractious in the barrier. SULO WARRIOR (D. Randall) jumped awkwardly and dipped shortly afterwards. ALBANY BOY (Danny Miller) raced wide throughout. JUGAHTRICE (M. Roney) lay inwards in the straight.

RACE 7: WHEELS SOUTH WEST HANDICAP – 1200M

As a result of the Ambulance attendants being required to attend a patient, this race started 11 minutes after the advertised start time. Shortly after the start C’MON BLUEY (T. Ikenushi) shifted inwards carrying in JUNGLESSLY (S. Parnham) which bumped HOW CLEVER (W. Pike) onto ROBINSON STREET (J. Pouillet). HOW CLEVER pulled hard in the middle stages and near the 700m shifted inwards striking the running rail.

RACE 8: TIMES SPORT HANDICAP – 1400M

SHENADE (S. Parnham) commenced awkwardly and shifted outwards bumping STELLA BELLISSIMA (W. Hughes). ERMINIE (T. Ikenushi) shifted inwards at the start bumping FRENCH CROONER (W. Pike). Passing the 1200m FRENCH CROONER steadied off the heels of RANCHER VANN (T. Jackman) and threw its head. Apprentice S. Parnham (SHENADE) reported that the mare had been unsuited to racing between runners, having to be urged along.

LATE REPORT

Pinjarra Race Club, Wednesday 18 December, 2002. Race 9. Boxing Day At Pinjarra Park Handicap (1200m).

Stewards concluded an Inquiry into an incident approaching the 1050m where BAY WARRIOR (C. Harvey) and POWER BOMB (Jason Brown) bumped. On Inquiry it was established that BAY WARRIOR shifted inwards away from SAPPHIRE STAR (P. Harvey), which had commenced to lay inwards approaching the 1050m. BAY WARRIOR and POWER BOMB bumped on two occasions. Shortly afterwards POWER BOMB shifted out slightly as SAPPHIRE STAR continued to lay inwards, placing BAY WARRIOR in restricted room. Stewards took no action over the incident other than to advise Jockey P. Harvey that he is expected to make greater effort to straighten his mounts in similar circumstances.

FINES:

RACE 1: ATRIUM HOTEL MAIDEN – 1200M

BOLD VOLTAGE (T. Turner) was slow into stride. I’M COMING HOME (K. Forrester) jumped awkwardly. UNO BEN (C. Harvey) threw its head on jumping and raced keenly in the early stages. MAPULE (S. Parnham) threw its head on jumping. SILENTIUM (A. Sansom) over raced in the early stages. Approaching the 800m BOLD VOLTAGE had to steady momentarily when racing keenly. MR TIBBS (C. Staples) pulled hard in the middle stages. Passing the 550m UNO BEN had a tendency to lay outwards. GREY SHADOW (J. Whiting) raced wide throughout. Approaching the 250m UNO BEN steadied and was held up for a short distance. Near the 175m I’M COMING HOME eased and then shifted outwards from the heels of SILENTIUM to obtain a clear run. Jockey A. Sansom (SILENTIUM) reported that the filly raced greenly throughout.

RACE 2: HEYTESBURY STUD MAIDEN – 1200M

CRIMSON SAKURA (W. Arnold) and WILD TORQUE (L. Camilleri) bumped at the start. AUTUMN ANGEL veered outwards at the start inconveniencing POLISH EDITION (Jason Brown) with Apprentice S. Parnham becoming unbalanced momentarily. Near the 950m WILD TORQUE bumped CRIMSON SAKURA outwards onto AUTUMN ANGEL, which was held tight when PRICE LIST (J. Pouillet) rolled inwards. MISS MARCEL (P. Carbery) raced keenly in the middle stages. Approaching the 800m TED’S SPIRIT (J. Whiting), when racing keenly, steadied from the heels of PRICE TO SCORN (T. Ikenushi) as that filly rolled inwards. ROSE OF ABJAR (C. Harvey) made the turn into the straight wide. AUTUMN ANGEL raced wide throughout. Near the 300m MISS MARCEL threw its head in the air when steadied from the heels of PRICE LIST, which rolled inwards slightly. Approaching the 100m SHE’S MY DESTINY (A. Sansom) was inconvenienced when WILD TORQUE shifted inwards when under pressure in the straight. HOOLEYOSHI (T. Turner) returned having cast its near fore plate during running.

RACE 3: MANDURAH TELEGRAPH MAIDEN – 1300M

EL SAREZIN was withdrawn at 12.36 p.m. when the Stewards were advised by Trainer Mr Stanley Miller that he had injured his back while attempting to float EL SAREZIN to the course. INSTANTANEOUS (C. Staples) and LAUGHTER AND LUST (W. Arnold) bumped on jumping. Shortly after the start COSTALOT GIRL (T. Turner) shifted inwards bumping heavily with RARE SPICE (S. Parnham). At the 900m TOROLOSA (L. Camilleri) and KIRA’S VISION (C. Harvey) bumped. GO TOBY GO (T. Ikenushi) raced wide throughout. Near the 150m LAUGHTER AND LUST shifted inwards carrying ALYSHIA’S DAY (J. Pouillet) in, with RARE SPICE, which had been held up from the 200m, steadying in consequence. Jockey W. Arnold (LAUGHTER AND LUST) was shown a film of this incident and was advised to straighten his mounts more quickly in future. A post race Veterinary examination of TUCKIE (K. Forrester) revealed nothing amiss. Trainer Mr M. Seinor was advised that due to the poor performance of TUCKIE, the gelding would have to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again.

RACE 4: SHIRE OF MURRAY HANDICAP – 1400M

DALIAN (S. Parnham) dipped on jumping, got its head in the air and shifted inwards tightening FANCY LADY (W. Arnold). DALIAN then shifted outwards quickly causing KYLIE NADINE (T. Ikenushi) to strike that filly’s heels and blunder. RIDE THE EAGLE (A. Sansom) raced fiercely in the early stages then lay outwards from the 600m. STONE MAN (M. Frethey) over raced in the early and middle stages, due to the lack of early pace. DALIAN and GOLD KSAR (Jason Brown) bumped approaching the 325m. Passing the 275m KYLIE NADINE steadied outwards from the heels of STONE MAN. Following the running of this race Jockey M. Frethey was examined by the Club’s Medical Officer and found to be unfit to fulfil his riding engagements for the remainder of the meeting. Apprentice C. Harvey rider of BRONZE CITY and Apprentice S. Parnham, rider of DALIAN, were reprimanded for failing to increase the pace when in a position to do so. Jockey K. Forrester, rider of BRAVEST GIRL, was reprimanded for failing to maintain a reasonable pace when leading.

RACE 5: PEEL DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION HANDICAP – 1100M

MY EBONY’S BLEST (W. Arnold) was fractious in the barrier prior to a start. COMEBACK KID (J. Claite) brushed the outside barrier gate on jumping and then shifted outwards bumping TERROR TORIAN (K. Forrester).

RACE 6: SWAN DRAUGHT HANDICAP – 2000M

RED ADRAAN (J. Whiting) jumped awkwardly. Passing the 550m THUNDELERA (A. Sansom) baulked from the whip of POPULAR PRINCE (Jason Brown).

RACE 7: CITY OF MANDURAH CUP – 1600M

KILLADEAS (D. McLean) was slow into stride. CLASSIC ALLUSION (A. Sansom) and YULE DANCER (K. Forrester) bumped at the start. SOBALADY (C. Dredge) and BOSSE’S MATE (P. Carbery) raced wide in the early and middle stages. DANCER’S HALO (J. Whiting) raced wide from the 1200m. A post race Veterinary examination of BOSSE’S MATE revealed the gelding to be suffering from heat stress. Trainer Mr P. Oliver advised that BOSSE’S MATE would now be sent for a spell. A post race Veterinary examination of SOBALADY revealed the mare to be slightly lame in the off fore. Trainer Mr R. Bynder advised that SOBALADY would now be sent for a spell.

RACE 8: CHAFF CITY HANDICAP – 1600M

CONNED AGAIN (C. Harvey) and MIGHTY EFFORT (L. Camilleri) bumped at the start. SPARE THAT TREE (A. Sansom) over raced in the early and middle stages. COYABA (W. Hughes) and LANAARA’S SON (T. Turner) bumped passing the 600m. BRAVE ACT (K. Forrester) raced wide throughout. TRUE SAINT (D. Staeck) was held up from on straightening until the 200m, then shortly afterwards was carried outwards by MIGHTY EFFORT and steadied from the heels of FINAL AFFAIR (S. Parnham). PRINCE GEORGIOS (P. Carbery) had a tendency to lay outwards over the final 150m. When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of CLAN NOBLE, Trainer Mr B. Watkins stated that on reflection CLAN NOBLE may not have appreciated racing so soon after its first up run at its previous start at Bunbury on 4 December, 2002 and had benefited from having a longer spacing before today’s race. Mr Watkins further stated that CLAN NOBLE had been suited by the early pace today. It was established that the connections had only supported the gelding in a token manner. In addition Mr Watkins advised that he would space CLAN NOBLE’s future starts two weeks apart where possible.

RACE 9: PEEL REGION TOURISM ASSOCIATION HANDICAP – 1400M

THE BROWN HORSE (J. Whiting) and STRAIGHT MONEY (K. Forrester) were slow away. Leaving the 250m MERRY MONARCH (K. Hawkins) and TAXA (P. Carbery) bumped. Over the final 50m CHIPPENAWAY (A. Sansom) shifted away from THE BROWN HORSE and inconvenienced MY LOVELY LADY (T. Turner).

RACE 1: THE BANK WEST LITE – 1000M

YOUR CHOICE (L. Camilleri) was unruly in the mounting enclosure and when entering the track for its preliminary. WITHOUT A NAME (C. Staples) dipped on jumping. At the start KYMCZAR (Danny Miller) and PARIS RAIDER (P. Black) bumped. KYMCZAR then shifted inwards making contact with FEMME (S. Parnham). WASPISH (D. Staeck) commenced awkwardly. Shortly after the start GALLOPING GOURMET (J. Whiting) and MEGA ME (P. Harvey) bumped. PARIS RAIDER raced wide throughout and had a tendency to lay inwards in the straight. FEARNOUGHT (Jason Brown) raced keenly in the middle stages. KYMCZAR and STEEL PRINCE (P. Carbery) brushed near the 700m. KYMCZAR lay outwards from the 600m and near the 200m shifted outwards inconveniencing MEGA ME. Trainer Mr M. Pateman advised the Stewards that the recent performances of AMIO (Stephen Miller) had been disappointing and today he had removed the blinkers and instructed its rider to settle back off the pace in an attempt to improve the competitiveness of the gelding. Following the disappointing performance it was now his intention to send AMIO for a spell.

RACE 2: THE BANK WEST FREEB ACOUNT – 1800M

An objection lodged by Jockey J. Claite rider of the fourth placed KEY FLYER against KIM LISA (S. McGruddy) being declared the winner, and the second placed CENT DANCING (T. Turner) alleging interference over the final 200m were dismissed. Approaching the 1200m CASUIST (C. Harvey) steadied when held tight by LORD SPICE (J. Noske). At the 650m EBONY HALO (C. Staples) rolled outwards inconveniencing GAMBEI (P. Harvey) which was racing wide on the track. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of TAPDOG, Jockey Stephen Miller stated that he had been instructed to be positioned just off the pace, but after commencing well he had settled back behind GAMBEI and had elected to follow that mare into the race. From the 1000m TAPDOG was under sufferance and only battled on in the straight. The only explanation he could offer was that the travelling may have affected the gelding. Trainer Mr C. Lauritsen advised that TAPDOG may have been suited better to racing in a more forward position however he was disappointed with its performance. It was established that the connections had supported TAPDOG. Trainer Mr C. Lauritsen advised that he would observe how TAPDOG recovered and report any anomalies to the Stewards. Approaching the 200m KEY FLYER was disappointed for a run between CHRISTOPHER MAC (K. Hawkins) on its inside and CENT DANCING on its outside. Shortly after this, KEY FLYER was further inconvenienced when CENT DANCING lay outwards. Over the concluding 75m KIM LISA shifted outwards inconveniencing CHRISTOPHER MAC and near the 50m caused KEY FLYER to restrain. On Inquiry Jockey S. McGruddy pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under ARR.137(a) for causing this interference and was suspended from riding in races for a period of 12 days from midnight 21 December, 2002 until midnight 2 January, 2003. When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of KIM LISA, Trainer Mr M. Burnett advised that at its last start the mare had only finished three lengths behind the winner. He then elected to remove the blinkers in an endeavour to make KIM LISA race more competitively.

RACE 3: THE BANK WEST NEIGHBOURHOOD BANKS – 1100M

BLETCHLEY’S HERO (A. Taylor) commenced awkwardly. BAY OF MINE (W. Pike) was slow to begin. METAL GLOW (P. Knuckey) commenced awkwardly losing ground. POLITONIC (L. Camilleri) raced wide throughout. Near the 250m VOLATORE (J. Whiting) was impeded and shortly after this steadied and shifted outwards bumping POLITONIC. Approaching the 125m VOLATORE and REAL STORM (K. Forrester) bumped. When questioned regarding the performance of METAL GLOW, Jockey P. Knuckey explained that in his opinion the gelding had resented the nose band which it was racing in for the first time today. Trainer Mr K. Shanks explained that METAL GLOW was a difficult horse to prepare and it was now his intention to remove the nose band from the gelding. Mr K. Shanks was advised that METAL GLOW would have to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again.

RACE 4: SIR ERNEST LEE-STEERE CLASSIC – 1400M

MYSTIC GLOW (K. Forrester) was slow to begin. ZOOMETRIC (P. Knuckey) commenced awkwardly and then shifted outwards bumping heavily with MAPPERHOLIC (Stephen Miller). Shortly after the start JAG TALK (J. Whiting) and RISCA FLIGHT (C. Harvey) bumped. Approximately 50m after the start VERY AUSPICIOUS (N. Chapman) lay outwards onto VOIX DE SOIE (T. Ikenushi), which bumped VIRELAY (T. Turner), causing that filly to restrain. T’SHOMBIE (S. McGruddy) raced wide throughout. At the 1300m KENNEDY (A. Sansom) steadied and was held tight by RUSSIAN SPIRIT (L. Camilleri). Approaching the 1200m MT. BARKER (S. Parnham) shifted outwards away from RUSSIAN SPIRIT. T’SHOMBIE which was following was inconvenienced. At the 200m CARIBBEAN ROYALE (P. King) restrained when held up behind MT. BARKER and shortly afterwards was inconvenienced when VIRELAY lay outwards. Jockey P. King, when questioned, advised that CARIBBEAN ROYALE had not travelled well at any stage of the race. Trainer Mr T. Andrews stated that CARIBBEAN ROYALE was not suited by the manner in which the race was run and in his opinion would now be better suited by racing over increased distances in future. At the 175m RISCA FLIGHT veered outwards across the heels of MAPPERHOLIC and shortly afterwards lay inwards.

RACE 5: THE BANK WEST TROPHY (A WELTER) – 1100M

On jumping MODEM (P. Harvey) and ZOLOTO (A. Sansom) bumped. ZABASET (Danny Miller) threw its head on jumping. Passing the 800m BENVARO (C. Staples) shifted inwards crowding ISLAND LIGHT (J. Claite) onto JUMALLIQUE (S. Parnham) which steadied. ANOTHER KITE (C. Harvey), which was following, restrained in consequence. Jockey C. Staples (BENVARO) was shown a film of this incident and was reprimanded and advised to make a greater effort to afford runners on his inside more room. After this incident JUMALLIQUE commenced to race fiercely restraining away from the heels of BENVARO and shifted outwards carrying ISLAND LIGHT wide. At the 500m ZOLOTO shifted outwards making contact with FRED WHO (J. Noske) on several occasions. At the turn into the straight ANOTHER KITE, when angling outwards, raced tightly with JUMALLIQUE for a short distance. Leaving the 400m MODEM was held up. Passing the 200m GRAND CAVALIER (L. Camilleri) had a tendency to lay inwards. BENVARO returned with lacerations to the off hind and near hock. TOLLESHUNT (W. Hughes) returned with a slightly elevated heart rate. ISLAND LIGHT struck itself during running and returned with lacerations to the inside near hind.

RACE 6: STARSTRUCK CLASSIC – 1500M

ROYAL MINX (D. Staeck) was slow to begin. Shortly after the start MY CHARISMA (C. Dredge) raced ungenerously. Near the 1350m TWILIGHT SPY (P. Knuckey) shifted inwards tightening DEDICATED MISS (Jason Miller) onto MISS TORPAGO (A. Sansom), which checked. MISS TORPAGO then struck the hindquarters of HIDE THE HALO (J. Noske). On Inquiry Jockey P. Knuckey was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under ARR.137(a) for causing this interference and was suspended from riding in races for a period of 13 days from midnight 22 December, 2002 until midnight 4 January, 2003. SHE’S CAPTIVATING (L. Camilleri) and NATIONAL SILK (T. Turner), which were following, were inconvenienced. At the 1250m HIDE THE HALO was held tight by TWILIGHT SPY and thereafter raced keenly getting its head in the air. MISS TORPAGO, which was following, raced keenly getting its head in the air. Approaching the 1200m TWILIGHT SPY shifted outwards inconveniencing DEDICATED MISS. MY CHARISMA made the turn into the straight wide. SHE’S CAPTIVATING raced wide on straightening. Approaching the 400m SHE’S CAPTIVATING shifted outwards onto ROYAL MINX, carrying MY CHARISMA wide. TWILIGHT SPY returned with a laceration to the off hind and having cast its near hind plate during running. DEDICATED MISS returned having cast its near hind plate and SHE’S CAPTIVATING returned having cast its off hind plate during running.

RACE 7: C.B. COX STAKES – 2400M

Trainer Mr G. Daly reported to the Stewards that on arriving on course HONOR LAP (P. King) was found to be in season. Approaching the 2200m MOONRISE (P. Carbery) steadied when close to the heels of BOLD MIRAGE (T. Turner). Approaching the 2000m ZERO POINT (P. Harvey) raced keenly. Approaching the winning post the first time FINITO (D. Staeck), when close to the heels of SO CANNY (C. Harvey), bumped with OUR ANNABEL (S. McGruddy) on several occasions. Passing the 700m SO CANNY, when going forward, shifted outwards carrying FINITO wide on the track. At the 500m MOONRISE lay outwards crowding SO CANNY onto the hindquarters of FINITO. Passing the 100m EXIT LANE (J. Noske) was impeded for a short distance.

RACE 8: THE BANK WEST AGRIONE PACKAGE – 1400M

ROYAL OMEN (A. Sansom) threw its head on jumping. CHANIHI (J. Whiting) shifted outwards at the start bumping RED RIPPLES (C. Harvey) onto POLIWHIRL (Jason Brown). CHANIHI (J. Whiting) raced wide throughout. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CROWN WITNESS Jockey P. Harvey stated that the gelding had travelled comfortably throughout, however when ridden vigourously in the straight, failed to respond. A post race Veterinary examination of CROWN WITNESS revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mrs C. Stelmach advised that she would race CROWN WITNESS in the provincial area at its next race start. ROYAL OMEN returned having cast both fore plates during running. A post race Veterinary examination of CHANIHI revealed the mare to have returned with a laceration to the right hip area. When questioned regarding apparent improved performance of INZAGHI (S. McGruddy), Trainer Mr Z. Stamenkovic advised that it had been 21 days since the gelding’s last start and he had in that time "freshened up" INZAGHI. He also believed that being able to lead unchallenged enhanced INZAGHI’s chances today. It was established that the stable has supported the gelding in the usual token fashion.

Specimens were taken from the second placed MUSTANG TOMMY (J. Hustwitt). MUEZZIN (M. Parsons) was slow into stride and raced wide throughout.

RACE 2: MATTHEWS ENTERPRISES HANDICAP – 1000M

Jockey B. Mathews was granted permission to ride DANDAGIN DREAM 1 kg overweight, as there was no senior rider available. Jockey M. Parsons was granted permission to ride GOLD SNEAK 1 kg overweight as there was no senior rider available. MESSENGER MAN (R. Hanson) was extremely fractious in the barrier and became cast under the rear gate. MESSENGER MAN (7/1) was withdrawn at 3.10pm acting on Veterinary advice. All bets made on MESSENGER MAN were refunded. Deductions from winning bets were made in accordance with the conditions set out in Betting Rule 19. Trainer Mr C. White was advised that MESSENGER MAN would have to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards and would require a Veterinary Certificate of Soundness prior to racing or trialling again. Routine Specimens were taken from the winner ON THE AIR (J. Hustwitt). Jockey N. Hopwood rider of the fourth placed MOTOR MICK returned to scale in excess of 0.5 kgs under her declared weight. After calling for the bridle Jockey N. Hopwood was able to make the correct weight. GOAL SNEAK (M. Parsons) and ROYAL RINGO (W. Pike) were slow into stride. ALWAYS READY (J. Miller) jumped out at the start bumping MOTOR MICK. GOAL SNEAK lay inwards in the straight. Passing the 200m DANDAGIN DREAM shifted out abruptly bumping GOAL SNEAK. ALWAYS READY was impeded for a run between the 200m and 100m when racing tight between GOAL SNEAK and ROYAL RINGO.

RACE 3: SOUTH EAST PETROLEUM MAIDEN - 1200M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner QUEEN OF ISCA (R. Kirkup). Jockey R. Hanson rider of the fourth placed RAGUALO requested to view the Stewards patrol film prior to correct weight being declared. SYDNEY SIDE (M. Parsons) was slow into stride. Near the 700m WEST RIVER RULER (J. Miller) shifted out bumping the hindquarters of FAMILY PARK (W. Pike). QUEEN OF ISCA shifted outwards on straightening carrying UNTOLD WEALTH (J. Hustwitt) wider on the track. QUEEN OF ISCA lay inwards in the straight obliging the rider to stop riding and straighten. LITTLE FELLA (B. Mathews) lay out throughout. Passing the 250m QUEEN OF ISCA was accidentally struck over the nose by the whip of Jockey A. Yugovich (SOLO COMMAND). Jockey A. Yugovich was advised that he must modify his whip action in future. SOLO COMMAND lay inwards in the straight bumping RAGUALO. Jockey A. Yugovich was advised that he must make a greater attempt to keep his mounts straight in future.

RACE 4: ROB DUTTON SUPER SREADING HANDICAP – 1400M

Jockey B. Mathews was granted permission to ride ISLAND VIEW 1 kg overweight, as there was no senior rider available. Jockey M. Parsons was granted permission to ride SANDSTONES 1 kg overweight as there was no senior rider available. Routine Specimens were taken from the winner ISLAND VIEW (B. Mathews). BARRA GOLD (R. Hanson) jumped out at the start bumping MAGIC OF JANE (R. Kirkup), which lost ground. SANDSTONES jumped out at the start bumping BELTONIA (J. Hustwitt), which got its head in the air and over raced for some distance. JOHN’S COMMAND (N. Hopwood) over raced in the early and middle stages. Near the 380m SANDSTONES (M. Parsons) shifted out to avoid the heels of the tiring BARRA GOLD carrying SOFT NATIONS (A. Yugovich) wider on the track. ISLAND VIEW returned to the enclosure with mild abrasions to the near hind fetlock and cannon.

RACE 6: RODGER GOSS TRANSPORT HANDICAP – 1600M

Specimens were taken from the third placed JIMMY’S BROTHER (R. Hanson). TRUE AMBER (B. Mathews) over raced in the early stages resulting in the saddle slipping forward placing the rider at a disadvantage throughout. Passing the 1500m BAY REWARD (J. Miller) steadied from the heels of MR. GUILTY (A. Yugovich). BAY REWARD raced wide from the 800m. Passing the 400m JIMMY’S BROTHER shifted out in attempt to go forward carrying TRUE AMBER and BAY REWARD wider on the track. TRUE AMBER returned to the enclosure with mild abrasions to the near hind hock.

RACE 1: WARATAH HANDICAP – 1200M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner COMMANCHE (G. Cortes). VAIN FLIGHT (P. Knuckey) raced fiercely in the early stages, getting its head in the air near the 900m and shortly afterwards rolled inwards causing BLOCK ‘N’ TACKLE (R. Burnett) to ease. Passing the 200m RED HOT SPECIAL (D. Tourneur) rolled outwards bumping TAWAN (P. Carbery) onto the hindquarters of VAIN FLIGHT, causing VAIN FLIGHT to shift inwards checking TAWAN, which lost ground. On Inquiry it was established that VAIN FLIGHT and TAWAN had been racing tight and brushed prior to RED HOT SPECIAL rolling outwards, which caused the interference to TAWAN.

RACE 2: CSBP MAIDEN – 1100M

ROBYN’S JEWEL (15/1) could not be loaded and was subsequently withdrawn by the Stewards at 1.15 p.m. All bets made on ROBYN’S JEWEL were refunded. Deductions from winning bets were made in accordance with the conditions set out in Betting Rule 19. Trainer Mr R. Martin was advised that ROBYN’S JEWEL would have to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again. LADY SYLPHIDE (A. Ng) and SIMSTAR BAY (D. Tourneur) were slow into stride. GREYSTOKE REVENGE (C. Harvey) had difficulty in obtaining a clear run in the straight. LADY SYLPHIDE was held up near the 125m when angled outwards for clear running. Near the 25m GABOR (P. Knuckey) had to steady when YAN CHIN lay inwards momentarily.

RACE 3: CYCLONE BETTER FARMS MAIDEN – 1400M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner KAAPDANCE (C. Farrell). FORTINO BAY (D. Tourneur) was fractious in the barrier and on jumping threw its head in the air, losing ground. Apprentice A. Ng (MONICA LOVESKY) lost his near side iron for a short distance on jumpng. When questioned on the improved performance of KAAPDANCE, Trainer Mr R. Dowling advised that KAAPDANCE had raced back in the field at recent runs and had attributed today’s improved performance to KAAPDANCE racing in a more forward position. It was his intention to have KAAPDANCE ridden in a similar manner when possible for future starts.

RACE 4: BRODAL OPTIONS BONUS HANDICAP – 1800M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner DANCER’S HALO (R. Quartermaine). DIGGER’S REVENGE (D. Tourneur) jumped awkwardly and raced fiercely in the early and middle stages. RICE (A. Ng) and HALCYON CHIEF (A. Armes) raced wide for the majority of the event. IMPAIRE (J. Hustwitt) lay inwards over the final 150m.

RACE 5: THE LOGRAN-B POWER HANDICAP – 1600M

OSIRIA (R. Burnett) jumped awkwardly. TOP END PRECIOUS (R. Quartermaine) and OL’ THUNDER (C. Harvey) bumped on jumping. OSIRIA raced wide throughout. TOP END PRECIOUS raced wide from the 600m.

RACE 6: WESFARMERS LANDMARK HANDICAP – 1800M

Routine specimens were taken from the winner HOME DIRECT (T. Zanker). ZEDAMOSS (R. Quartermaine) proved difficult to load. HOME DIRECT dipped on jumping. LATEST SOVEREIGN (A. Armes) lay inwards passing the 100m, causing ZEDAMOSS (R. Quartermaine) to be impeded near the 50m. When questioned regarding the improved performance of HOME DIRECT, Trainer Mr T. Clancy advised that the gelding was better suited racing up in distance over the 1800m and had also attributed the improved performance to HOME DIRECT wearing blinkers for the first time.

RACE 7: NUFARM SPRINT – 1300M

Passing the 1000m TAMMARMAN (M. Molloy), when racing keenly, had to steady when close to the heels of MY TRUE CHOICE (C. Harvey). PAIGLOW (P. Carbery) over raced in the early and middle stages. STAR OF ANGEL (P. Knuckey) bore outwards over the final 150m and near the 50m bumped TAMMARMAN. Jockey P. Knuckey (STAR OF ANGEL) was advised to make a greater effort to keep his mount straight when shifting ground.

RACE 8: O’MEARA LIVESTOCK COUNTRY CHALLENGE HEAT – 1200M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner BINNU BOY (R. McKay). CYCLONE BEN (R. Quartermaine) and POWER RULER (C. Harvey) bumped heavily on jumping. COLORADO RIVER (G. Cortes) threw its head at the start. CLASSIC PIECE (S. McGruddy) raced keenly in the early and middle stages. PELSAERT (D. Tourneur) had a tendency to lay outwards on straightening and then bore outwards over the final 150m.
