RACE 1: GERALDTON FUEL COMPANY HANDICAP – 1200M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner RICH FIM (A. Armes). On jumping KILCORMAC (S. Godden) struck the inside of its barrier. RICH FIM pulled hard in the early and middle stages. SIDE TIPPER (J. Lemon) and RICH FIM brushed on several occasions over the final 100m.

RACE 2: REGGIE MITCHELL MEMORIAL HANDICAP – 1400M

CARRY A GUN (G. Lemos) jumped awkwardly, losing ground. Passing the 300m HOT TEXAS (R. McKay) commenced to lay outwards and near the 200m shifted outwards carrying ALWAYS READY (A. Armes) wide on the track. When questioned regarding the ride on HOT TEXAS, Jockey R. McKay stated that after travelling well in front, the gelding commenced to shift groung near the 300m despite his attempts to keep his mount straight. Jockey McKay further stated that HOT TEXAS had made the turn into the straight awkwardly, resulting in the gelding shifting further ground at that stage of the race.

RACE 3: CGU HANDICAP – 1700M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner A DUDE (G. Lemos). The whip of Jockey D. Grenfell (MONDE PRINCE) broke near the 200m.

RACE 4: ELDERS LTD JUNCTION CUP – 1800m

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner SECRET CAPER (D. Grenfell). DOBS (D. Dicks) raced wide over the final 600m.

RACE 5: CREAM TRANSPORT HANDICAP – 1200M

On pulling up Jockey G. Lemos was dislodged from DAUBERBELL when the mare shied away from the winrow. Jockey Lemos was examined by the Club’s Medical Officer and declared fit to fulfil his remaining ride. PRINCE OF LIARS (S. Godden) returned having cast its near hind plate. PRINCE OF LIARS was also found to be lame in the near fore. Trainer Mr D. Couper advised that PRINCE OF LIARS would now be sent for a spell.

RACE 6: JUNCTION HOTEL HANDICAP – 1700M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner PARNELL (S. Godden). The barrier gates of SOARING DREAM (D. Grenfell) were slow to open. SOARING DREAM raced keenly in the early stages and had to be steadied from the heels of ELLAND ISLE (J. Lemon) passing the winning post the first time. When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of PARNELL, Trainer Mr A. Bamford advised that he felt the drop in class and the apprentice’s claim had contributed to PARNELL’s improved performance today. Mr Bamford further stated that he believed PARNELL was well-suited to the track conditions as the gelding had won its only previous start at the track over the same distance. When questioned regarding the disappointing run of BEAUTELLO, Jockey D. Dicks was of the opinion that the gelding had not been suited by the track surface today.
