RACE 1: TATT’S CLUB LIFE MEMBERS MAIDEN – 1100M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner BAWCSELLA (M. Ryan). MONSOON MASTER (C. Itzstein) and LATEST IMPULSE (B. Mathews) bumped at the start as did VEGAMAN (K. Nowland) and TRUE LOOT (R. Mills). TRUE LOOT raced greenly throughout. VEGAMAN raced wide from the 800m.

RACE 2: TATT’S CLUB COMMITTEE MAIDEN – 1400M

TRINOVA (12/1) was withdrawn by Stewards at 1.36p.m. acting on Veterinary advice when it was found to be sore in the near fore. All bets made on TRINOVA were ordered to be refunded. Deductions from winning bets were made in accordance with conditions set out in Betting Rule 19. Trainer Mr P. Graham was advised that TRINOVA would require a Veterinary Certificate of Soundness before racing again. Routine Specimens were taken from the winner VIOLENT WIND (T. Stubberfield)

OFF THE CUSH (C. Suresh) was slow into stride. Near the 350m OFF THE CUSH was momentarily held up and steadied from the heels of the tiring WOCKBRO (N. Hopwood). VITAVANN (R. Mills) raced wide from the 800m. Jockey B. Mathews reported that IN WITH A CHANCE made a respiratory noise on pulling up and may have choked down in running. Trainer Mr A. Grace advised that IN WITH A CHANCE had made a similar noise in training and as a result he had placed a tongue-tie on the gelding today. Mr Grace further stated that IN WITH A CHANCE would undergo a Veterinary examination and he would report any abnormalities to the Stewards.

RACE 3: ITT FLYGT PUMPS CLASS TWO - 1100M

Specimens were taken from the fifth placed GO ZAB GO (R. Kirkup). GO ZAB GO and DANCE WITH ANGELS (M. Ryan) bumped at the start. Near the 850m GO ZAB GO shifted in tightening MR. VAIN (H. McDougall). CLUB THUMPER (C. Itzstein) which was racing inside MR. VAIN was steadied, over reacted and lost ground. Jockey R. Kirkup was advised to allow runners to his inside more room in future. FRISCO (C. Suresh) raced wide from the 700m. MR. VAIN was blocked for a clear run from the 250m and near the 220m attempted to take a run between GO ZAB GO on its inside and KYOSHI (R. Mills) on its outside, bumping the hindquarter of KYOSHI with that gelding becoming unbalanced for a short distance. Apprentice H. McDougall (MR. VAIN) was reprimanded and advised that in future she must make sure that she has sufficient room when attempting a run. STRATEGIES (B. Mathews) lay inwards in the straight obliging the rider to stop riding and straighten the gelding.

RACE 4: SIGNATURE 600 SPRINT – 1100M

Specimens were taken from the second placed DEPARTURE LOUNGE (C. Itzstein). AT A LOOSE END (B. Mathews) and STORMY MADDIE (M. Ryan) bumped shortly after the start, with AT A LOOSE END losing ground. WELL ENDOWED (K. Nowland) bounded in the air on jumping losing ground. DEPARTURE LOUNGE over raced in the early and middle stages. ISLAND JOKER (R. Mills) was held up for a run between the 400m and the 250m. BAYWOOD (C. Suresh) made the turn into the straight wide. AT A LOOSE END lay inwards in the straight obliging the rider to stop riding and straighten the gelding. CASH IN THE BANK (T. Stubberfield) raced wide throughout.

RACE 5: FRANK TURICH MEMORIAL HANDICAP – 1300M

Specimens were taken from the fourth placed FORCE ON COURSE (C. Suresh). SECRET MENTOR (S. O’Donnell) and SALUTE THE ACE (C. Itzstein) were slow into stride. INDEMNITY (R. Kirkup) raced wide throughout. ALTONA BOY (M. Ryan) raced wide from the 800m and near the 200m shifted inwards brushing TWINFIM (B. Mathews) on several occasions. TWINFIM was impeded for a run from the 400m. FORCE ON COURSE was held up between the 400m and the 200m. NIEBIESKI (T. Stubberfield) and TRUE EXILE (N. Hopwood) brushed on several occasions over the final 50m.

RACE 6: GOLDFIELDS TATTERSALL’S CLUB CUP – 2200M

IVORY LANE bled from both nostrils during running. Trainer Mr S. Mulcahy was advised that IVORY LANE would now suffer the disabilities of ARR.53A. Apprentice H. McDougall was granted permission to replace Jockey A. Yugovich on IVORY LANE as there was no other suitable rider available, however Apprentice McDougall was only able to claim 2kgs of her 3kgs allowance. Routine Specimens were taken from the winner MR. DEBERNALS (R. Kirkup). REDAREB (B. Mathews) pulled hard in the early and middle stages. DUBLORNUTHIN (S. O’Donnell) lay inwards in the straight obliging the rider to stop riding and straighten the gelding. Near the 200m RED RIPPLES (C. Suresh) shifted inwards bumping heavily with SONIC BLUE (K. Nowland) on a number of occasions. RED RIPPLES then had a tendency to lay inwards over the final 100m. On Inquiry Apprentice C. Suresh pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under ARR.137(a) for causing this interference and subsequently had his permit to ride in races suspended for a period of 12 days from midnight 3 August, 2002 until midnight 15 August, 2002. RED RIPPLES returned with abrasions to the near fore tendon.

RACE 7: CUMMINS CLASS ONE – 1400

Apprentice W. White was granted permission to replace Jockey A. Yugovich on EXCESSIVE FORCE as there was no other suitable rider available. Routine Specimens were taken from the winner SANDS OF DEE (R. Mills). CHAINSAW AL (M. Ryan) was fractious in the barriers becoming cast on the side rail and after being removed from the barrier was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Officer and declared fit to start. EVIL CONGRESS (B. Mathews) proved difficult to load. Near the 850m EVIL CONGRESS, which was over racing, steadied from the heels of COMMIT (C. Suresh). LAND SPEED STAR (K. Nowland), CHAINSAW ALL, PEACEFUL OUTCOME (C. Itzstein) and COMMIT raced wide from the 800m. HOW DO WE KNOW (S. O’Donnell) and SERVINCENT (R. Kirkup) were held up for clear runs from the 400m. Near the 200m EXCESSIVE FORCE (W. White) shifted inwards causing SERVINCENT to clip heels and blunder dislodging Jockey R. Kirkup. In this incident AL DIDNAVADAD (T. Stubberfield), EVIL CONGRESS, HOBO RITZ (H. McDougall) and COMMIT were all inconvenienced. On Inquiry Apprentice W. White pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under ARR.137(a) for causing this interference and subsequently had his permit to ride in races suspended for a period of 12 days from midnight 3 August, 2002 until midnight 15 August, 2002. When questioned regarding the improved performance of SANDS OF DEE (R. Mills), Trainer Mr K. Boase stated that the mare was having its second start for the stable today and he had removed the blinkers which enabled SANDS OF DEE to race in a forward position today. Mr Boase further stated that at Kalgoorlie on 27 July, 2002, Jockey A Yugovich had dropped his reins on a number of occasions in the straight and this had restricted his riding of SANDS OF DEE out over the concluding stages. He further stated that SANDS OF DEE had dropped back in class today and that the stable had not supported the mare.

LATE REPORT

Coolgardie Racing Club, Saturday, 27 July 2002 – Denver City Social Club-Carbine Maiden (1400m).

Trainer Mr R. Brown advised that blood samples taken from C’MON BEAU (A. Yugovich) revealed the gelding to be suffering from a lung infection, which he believes contributed to the gelding’s poor performance. Mr Brown further stated the C’MON BEAU would now undergo treatment.

Coolgardie Racing Club, Saturday, 27 July 2002 – Denver City Social Club-Carbine Maiden (1400m)

Apprentice K. Nowland was questioned regarding his apparent lack of vigour on HAY BURNER over the final 300m. Apprentice Nowland stated that HAY BURNER was racing in a forward position throughout and on straightening, when he attempted to pull the whip, it had become entangled in the colt’s mane. Apprentice Nowland acknowledged that he had not pushed HAY BURNER out with his hands in his normal vigor, however he had been concentrating on trying to free his whip. Mr Brown advised that he had not been satisfied with Apprentice Nowland’s whip technique over recent weeks, however efforts had been made to improve in this regard. Apprentice Nowland was directed to undergo daily sessions of whip use on the mechanical horse in an endeavor to improve his technique. Apprentice Nowland also pleaded guilty to a charge under ARR.140(b) for failing to report this incident and was subsequently fined the sum of $100.
