RACE 1: THE HAHN PREMIUM LIGHT – 1000M

CASUAL WOLF was withdrawn at 10.20 a.m. when it was reported by both Club Veterinary Surgeons that the gelding was shin sore in the off fore. Trainer Mr S. Wolfe was advised under Reg.81 that CASUAL WOLF would not be permitted to start in a race for a period of six weeks. On jumping EXTOLLING VIRTUE (L. Camilleri) and THUNDER ON LEO (N. Chapman) collided. DIAMOND DASH (P. King) commenced extremely awkwardly and shortly afterwards was further inconvenienced when FIMASIA (C. Harvey) lay inwards. Shortly after the start EXTOLLING VIRTUE bumped with ROSE OF THUNDER (P. Farrell) which lay outwards. DIAMOND DASH raced greenly throughout. Approaching the 600m CRISTOBAL (J. Whiting), when brushed by THUNDER ON LEO on its inside, veered outwards restraining away from the heels of BUSTER’S YOUSHA (T. Ikenushi). Shortly after this CRISTOBAL brushed with THUNDER ON LEO and thereafter raced wide on the track. Leaving the 600m KALA KWILA (J. Oliver) and CLICKITON (P. Harvey) bumped. RUNAMUCK JANE (K. Forrester) raced greenly throughout and approaching the 400m restrained away from EXTOLLING VIRTUE. On straightening CLICKITON and EXTOLLING VIRTUE had a tendency to lay inwards. DIAMOND DASH made the turn into the straight wide. RUNAMUCK JANE returned with a haematoma to the near fore fetlock.

RACE 2: THE EMU BITTER – 2200M

On jumping DURBRIDGE TOY (P. Harvey), HONAMI (L. Camilleri) and ROCK KICKER (D. Randall) came together. GRID (C. Harvey) commenced awkwardly and shortly afterwards threw its head on several occasions. In the middle stages ROSE OF OAKFORD (D. Staeck) raced keenly. GRID raced wide from the 1000m. Passing the 250m BARNEY BOY (P. Farrell) was held up behind ROSE OF OAKFORD. Approaching the 200m VECCHIO SCARPONE (Danny Miller), which was tiring, rolled inwards impeding ROCK KICKER, which was making ground. Leaving the 200m ROSE OF OAKFORD and GILL’S DREAM (S. McGruddy) bumped. GRID returned distressed. Trainer Mr M. Herbert was advised that GRID would require a Veterinary Certificate of Soundness before racing again. LADY AVONLEA (J. Noske) returned with blood in its mouth.

RACE 3: THE EMU DRAFT – 1200M

On jumping SILK ‘N’ STEEL (D. Randall) blundered. Shortly after the start STAR PIXIE (A. Sansom) bumped with SHE’S CAPTIVATING (L. Camilleri) and then attempted to buck. Trainer Mr D. Miller was advised that STAR PIXIE would have to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again. At the 1150m NATESA (P. Knuckey) and PRICE CONTROL (T. Ikenushi) bumped. AWESOME ANNIE (P. Harvey) made the turn into the straight wide. At the 200m SHE’S CAPTIVATING clipped the heels of SILK ‘N’ STEEL and dipped. At the 180m NATESA lay outwards onto SAPPHIRE STAR (C. Harvey) which carried LITTLE MISS MADAM (Danny Miller) outwards onto the tiring TENDER SMILE (P. King), which restrained. Over the concluding 50m NATESA continued to lay outwards as EXBURY FAIR (N. Chapman) shifted inwards with LITTLE MISS MADAM being impeded. Jockeys’ N. Chapman and P. Knuckey were warned and advised to make a greater effort to keep their mounts straight. NATESA returned having cast its near hind plate during running.

RACE 4: THE HAHN PREMIUM – 1600M

Shortly after the start SHE’S A ROSE (J. Noske) was crowded between NOVERRE (L. Camilleri) on its inside and SAILING FREE (Danny Miller) on its outside. NOW’S GOOD (J. Oliver) was slow into stride. During the running of this race the breast plate on KIM LISA (R. Burnett) snapped. Approaching the 600m KIM LISA when held tight by EGO RHYTHM (P. King) on its outside, lay inwards bumping KEY FLYER (C. Harvey) and then shifted outwards obliging THUNDELERA (C. Dredge) to race wide on the track. In the straight MR. TAMBOURINEMAN (P. Harvey) had an inclination to lay inwards and at the 100m made contact with KIM LISA. THUNDELERA made the turn into the straight wide. ENTREPRENEURIAL (W. Hughes) had difficulty in obtaining a clear run in the straight. Approaching the 250m SOUND OF SARAB (P. Carbery) was held up behind BUSINESS BOOM (K. Forrester) and when taken outwards was then held tight by MR. TAMBOURINEMAN on its outside. At the 200m BUSINESS BOOM was momentarily held up behind EGO RHYTHM (P. King). Jockey Paul Harvey was questioned regarding the reason for MR. TAMBOURINEMAN racing in a rearward position and explained that the gelding had got back further in the field than anticipated due to the fast early pace. He further attributed this to the gelding’s lack of maturity at this stage of its career and advised that MR. TAMBOURINEMAN would benefit from further racing. On return to the mounting enclosure WIN TO GRIN (T. Ikenushi) baulked, dislodging Apprentice T. Ikenushi who suffered an apparent harmless fall.

RACE 5: SWAN MID LAGER COUNTRY CUP – 1400M

POLISH RAIDER (T. Ikenushi) commenced awkwardly striking the inside of its barrier and then veered inwards severely inconveniencing TOSSED (N. Chapman) which then bumped heavily with OUR DOREEN (N. Rudland) on its inside. RENNY RENOIR (P. King) dwelt at the start losing ground. At the 600m TOSSED and HEALSVILLE (C. Itzstein) buffeted. Passing the 500m DYNAMIC ELITE (Danny Miller) was constantly held up behind CHIEF EXECUTIVE (C. Farrell) which was tiring. Approaching the 400m C’MON BLUEY (P. Farrell) got its head in the air and raced ungenerously for a short distance. Trainer Mr C. Willis advised the Stewards that he would give consideration to removing the tongue-tie on C’MON BLUEY. At the 400m GILLIGAN’S GIRL (J. Whiting) shifted outwards bumping REGGEE (P. Harvey). Approaching the 200m RENNY RENOIR was blocked and inconvenienced when OUR DOREEN lay outwards. Trainer Mr J. Jachmann reported to the Stewards that he would race CHIEF EXECUTIVE in a tongue-tie in the Great Southern region at its next start.

RACE 6: SOVEREIGN SUPERIOR LAGER BELGRAVIA STAKES – 1200M

On jumping ZOOMETRIC (P. Knuckey) shifted outwards bumping UNCLE BRIAN (N. Chapman) onto PRICELESS AURA (P. Farrell). Approaching the 900m ZOOMETRIC steadied when UNCLE BRIAN on its outside lay inwards. CONSPIRATOR (K. Forrester), which was following, was inconvenienced. At the 850m GRENADIER (L. Camilleri) lay inwards making contact with THE RIGHT MONEY (J. Whiting). STAR OF VAIN (D. Staeck) raced wide from the 600m. BRAVE RHYTHM (P. Harvey) made the turn into the straight wide and at the 250m was struck over the face by the whip of Jockey A. Sansom (AMIO). At the 450m CONSPIRATOR shifted outwards bumping PRICELESS AURA on several occasions. At the 400m WOOL ZONE (T. Ikenushi) and THE RIGHT MONEY buffeted. At the 300m Jockey G. Smith (HANSHANDI) dropped his whip. Jockey P. King reported to the Stewards that near the 200m HOT SHOT BROTHER baulked and then veered outwards. ZOOMETRIC was carried outwards in this incident. At the 75m WOOL ZONE was held tight by GAMBACE (Stephen Miller) on its outside. Jockey A. Sansom reported that AMIO hung outwards throughout.

RACE 7: THE SWAN DRAUGHT WATC 150TH ANNIVERSARY CUP – 1400M

MAIN STAGE (T. Ikenushi) commenced awkwardly. ZAHEED (Danny Miller) raced wide throughout. SENATE LEASE (S. McGruddy) had a tendency to race keenly in the early and middle stages. MAIN STAGE (T. Ikenushi) raced wide at the turn into the straight. PERFECT MINX (N. Chapman) was held up at the turn into the straight. HONOR LAP (P. King) was blocked at the 300m. Near the 250m AIR OF SUPREMACY (W. Arnold) shifted outwards tightening SENATE LEASE, which was eased and became unbalanced bumping HONOR LAP on several occasions. HONOR LAP was then impeded for a short distance. PERFECT MINX, which was following, was inconvenienced and blocked for several strides. Approaching the 100m HONOR LAP, when making ground, was steadied and taken outwards to obtain a clear run. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MR. TANZANIA, Jockey J. Whiting explained that the gelding had been under pressure throughout and when asked to quicken at the 600m had not responded and had raced in a lethargic manner from thereon. A Veterinary examination of MR. TANZANIA revealed nothing amiss. Trainer Mr L. Luciani’s Stable Foreperson, Mr S. Lynch advised the Stewards that MR. TANZANIA had been working well and he had expected a forward showing. It was the intention to have a full veterinary examination on MR. TANZANIA and report any abnormalities to the Stewards, Trainer Mr L. Luciani’s Stable Foreperson Mr S. Lynch was advised that MR. TANZANIA would have to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again. Following the running of this race, Jockey P. Harvey underwent a medical check and was found to be suffering from the early onset of a virus. Subsequently Jockey P. Harvey was replaced on his remaining rides.

RACE 8: W.A. PREMIER’S CUP – 1800M

NOBLE TOUCH (D. Staeck) commenced awkwardly, shifted outwards and bumped MY GRENADIER (W. Arnold). Passing the 1600m ICE MAGIC (C. Harvey) checked when TOTALLY MAROONED (T. Ikenushi) shifted inwards. On Inquiry it was established that TOTALLY MAROONED was carried inwards by KYROS LAD (L. Camilleri) which was being held tight my GENERAL GRANT (S. McGruddy) and MARSCARA (P. Knuckey). At the 600m KYROS LAD lay inwards crowding TOTALLY MAROONED.

LAKESIDE SONG (C. Dredge) raced wide from the 600m. At the 500m TOTALLY MAROONED, when racing tight on the inside of ICE MAGIC, lay outwards making contact with ICE MAGIC. Shortly after this TOTALLY MAROONED restrained when ICE MAGIC shifted inwards slightly. In this incident TOTALLY MAROONED and ICE MAGIC bumped heavily on several occasions. At the 200m NOBLE TOUCH was blocked between ICE MAGIC and MY GRENADIER. When questioned regarding the improved performance of AUSSIE STRIKE, Trainer Mr R. Rogers advised that at its last start the gelding was not suited to the adverse weather conditions of that day. He further explained that prior to that run AUSSIE STRIKE had raced competitively. It was established that the connections had supported AUSSIE STRIKE to a lesser extent today as to its last start. MARSCARA returned with a minor abrasion to the off hind tendon. NOBLE TOUCH returned having cast its near hind plate. TOTALLY MAROONED returned with a laceration to the off knee.

RACE 9: THE TOOHEY’S EXTRA DRY – 1200M

JOSHUA’S STAR (L. Camilleri) commenced awkwardly, losing ground. Shortly after the start NO EXCUSES (T. Jackman) and ZINGARLO (T. Ikenushi) bumped. JOSHUA’S STAR over raced in the early and middle stages and approaching the 600m restrained from PAY STATION (C. Farrell) and bumped on several occasions with MAJOR DEAL on its outside. Leaving the 600m JOSHUA’S STAR continued to race keenly and lay outwards impeding MAJOR DEAL, which lost ground. On straightening ZINGARLO was blocked behind PAGO eventually getting clear inside the 200m. NO EXCUSES raced wide throughout. At the 250m CENT DANCING (P. Knuckey) was disappointed for a run between NO EXCUSES (T. Jackman) on its outside and DOUBLE JEWEL on its inside. CENT DANCING restrained, angled back to the inside and was then further blocked between DOUBLE JEWEL and MAJOR DEAL. CENT DANCING then lay inwards tightening JOSHUA’S STAR. Over the final 100m FINAL DEAL was unable to obtain a clear passage. MIXED LAD struck itself on the off hind fetlock.

RIDING CHANGES:

Race 7. Jockey W. Arnold (double engaged) replaced by Jockey L. Camilleri on FRIENDLY MANNA.
Race 8. Jockey P. Harvey (indisposed) replaced by Jockey A. Sansom on KELDAAN.
Race 9. Jockey P. Harvey (indisposed) replaced by Jockey K. Forrester on ARRIAN.

Routine Specimens were taken from all winners, and Race 7. MR. TANZANIA

Prior to the running of Race 1, all riders engaged in Race 1 were addressed by the Stewards in relation to their obligations in the use of the whip and in particular not to use the whip in an excessive manner.

LATE REPORT

Trainer Mr R. Bynder reported to the Stewards that MYSTERY LAD would now be retired.
