RACE 1: ROUTE 66 MAIDEN – 1600M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner UMATAKA (D. Catarino). Approaching the 1400m ROCK MY SOCKS (R. McKay) when racing keenly had to be steadied off the heels of UMATAKA, when that gelding shifted inwards. On Inquiry Jockey D. Catarino was reprimanded and advised to give runners on his inside more room in future. ASCOT EXPRESS (J. Lemon) raced wide throughout. The rider of GREGAYE, Jockey D. Tourneur reported that the gelding lay inwards over the final 800m. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GREGAYE, Jockey D. Tourneur could offer no excuses other than the gelding continually lay in over the final 800m despite his endeavours to straighten the gelding and gain a more prominent racing position. When questioned regarding the improved performance of UMATAKA, Trainer Mr R. Evans was of the opinion that the gelding had appreciated a senior rider today as opposed to its previous starts. Mr Evans also stated that UMATAKA had not raced for a period of three weeks and in that time he had been able to increase the gelding’s workload for the increase distance of today’s race, which he felt the gelding was better suited by. Trainer Mr R. Evans further stated that it was now his intention to continue racing UMATAKA over similar or increased distances for future starts.

RACE 2: GASCOYNE CONSTRUCTIONS HANDICAP – 1200M

PRIDE OF MELLAY (D. Catarino) shifted outwards at the start and bumped with GIZMO (J. Lemon). AMUSEY (T. Zanker) raced wide throughout.

RACE 3: YEAR OF THE OUTBACK HANDICAP – 1600M

This race was re-scheduled to commence at 3.15 p.m as the Racecourse Ambulance was required to leave the course. Routine Specimens were taken from the winner CROWN CHIEF (D. Dicks). BOA FORCE (T. Zanker) and SWIFT AMMO (R. McKay) were slow to begin. MONDE PRINCE (D. Grenfell) raced wide over the final 600m. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GO BUST, Jockey D. Tourneur could offer no excuses other than he felt that GO BUST had tended to race keenly in the early stages and felt this had contributed to the poor run. Trainer Mr G. Criddle was questioned regarding the performance of GO BUST and was of the opinion that the gelding was unsuited by the distance of today’s race. Mr Criddle further advised that he would now restrict GO BUST to races over a shorter distance.

RACE 4: CIVIC VIDEO HANDICAP – 1800M

This race was re-scheduled to commence at 3.45 p.m. TAN DYNASTY (D. Dicks) raced wide in the early and middle stages. Near the 600m COUNTER STRIKE (D. Tourneur) shifted outwards tightening SOARING DREAM (D. Grenfell), who had to be steadied off the heels of SECRET CAPER (D. Catarino). On Inquiry Jockey D. Tourneur was reprimanded for shifting ground when insufficiently clear. RONALDO (S. Godden) lay inwards in the straight. Trainer Mr T. Veale advised that RAREST RIVER (J. Lemon) would now be retired.

RACE 5: CARPET HOTLINE HANDICAP – 1200M

This race was re-scheduled to commence at 4.20 p.m. Routine Specimens were taken from the winner TRUE VAIN (R. McKay). PIERRE (T. Zanker) raced wide over the final 600m. The saddle on DIGGER’S REVENGE (D. Tourneur) shifted forward near the 300m placing the rider at a disadvantage until it corrected itself near the 200m. Due to the disappointing performance of HURRICANE HALO (J. Lemon), Trainer Mr D. Black advised that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.

RACE 6: GASCOYNE CLEANERS HANDICAP – 1400M

This race was re-scheduled to commence at 4.50 p.m. Routine Specimens were taken from the winner GAINLINE (D. Grenfell). BRATS (S. Godden) jumped awkwardly and then shortly afterwards dipped losing ground. DOBS (D. Dicks) and LOWER MONKTON (D. Tourneur) bumped near the 300m.
