RACE 1: GO NORTHERLY HANDICAP – 1200M

NAME THAT TUNE (R. McKay) and RICE (A. Ng) bumped at the start. The saddle on DIAMOND SHALLAS (S. Gates) shifted forward shortly after the start, placing its rider at a disadvantage. DIAMOND SHALLAS had a tendency to roll outwards shortly after straightening. Near the 1000m the saddle on BRISTOL CITY (D. Tourneur) shifted forward placing its rider at an extreme disadvantage throughout the remainder of the race. HUMA HULA (T. Zanker) lay inwards over the final 300m.

RACE 2: KALBARRI YOU’LL LOVE IT MAIDEN – 1200M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner SISTER WHO (R. Mills). CREEK ROAD (C. Farrell) and INITIAL VELOCITY (J. Hustwitt) bumped on jumping. Running to the 1000m SISTER ROSY (R. Burnett) lay inwards and was crowded shortly after when MONICA LOVESKY (T. Zanker) momentarily rolled inwards causing SISTER ROSY to contact MORESBY PEARL (A. Armes). MORESBY PEARL then bumped INITIAL VELOCITY onto CREEK ROAD (C. Farrell), which bumped heavily with TOP END PRECIOUS (R. Quartermaine) causing both TOP END PRECIOUS and CREEK ROAD to be steadied and lose ground. On Inquiry Apprentice’s R. Burnett and T. Zanker were advised to exercise greater care in future. Passing the 800m MORESBY PEARL and TOP END PRECIOUS bumped. MR FLANAGAN (D. Dicks) raced wide throughout and near the 600m bumped INITIAL VELOCITY. Passing the 300m SISTER ROSY shifted inwards causing RED HOT SPECIAL (D. Tourneur) to crowd TOP END PRECIOUS, causing CIAPANO (S. Godden) to ease. On Inquiry Apprentice R. Burnett was reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

RACE 3: RON ASH FAMILY MAIDEN – 1400M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner SURPANCH (R. McKay). BOLD KINGSTON (D. Dicks) was slow into stride. Near the 600m BOLD KINGSTON and GREGAYE (R. Mills) were restrained and lost ground when SURPANCH shifted inwards. An Inquiry will be held into this incident at a time and date to be fixed.

RACE 4: GEOFF BAKER’S PAINTING SERVICE HANDICAP – 1300M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner PEAKAYE (A. Ng). Passing the 500m SPECIAL CLEARANCE (E. Dredge) had to ease, when PAGODA PRINCE (R. Quartermaine) steadied when close to the heels of CHANTESSA (A. Armes) and shifted inwards. Near the 300m SPECIAL CLEARANCE and BOOTENAL LIGHT (C. Farrell) bumped. SPECIAL CLEARANCE was blocked for a clear run over the final 150m. When questioned regarding the improved performance of PEAKAYE, Trainer Mr H. Williams advised that the mare had settled further back in the field than he had anticipated at its previous start at Geraldton on 13 October, 2002, and he had attributed the improved performance to PEAKAYE being able to race on the pace today. He also advised that PEAKAYE would be ridden in that manner, when possible, for future starts. CHANTESSA returned with lacerations to the near hock.

RACE 5: RAINBOW JUNGLE HANDICAP – 1100M

PELSAERT (D. Tourneur) dwelt on jumping and was bumped shortly after when YAN CHIN (S. Godden) shifted inwards. YAN CHIN then rolled outwards bumping DAME NOIRE (A. Ng). Passing the 900m YAN CHIN, when racing keenly, shifted inwards bumping PELSAERT, which had to steady off the heels of PERMARJEN (C. Farrell). DAME NOIRE lay outwards on straightening and bore outwards over the final 250m. Apprentice A. Ng advised that DAME NOIRE had lay out throughout running.

RACE 6: KALBARRI VISITORS CENTRE CUP – 1200M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner FIELDWORKS (A. Armes). MALWOOD (A. Ng) was fractious in the barrier prior to the start. LIKE A HORNET (J. Hustwitt) and FAMILY PRESSURE (R. Mills) bumped at the start. When questioned regarding the improved performance of FIELDWORKS, Trainer Mr D. Couper advised that the gelding had been caught racing wide for the majority of the previous start at Geraldton on 13 October, 2002 and had been better suited racing on the pace today and it was his intention to have the FIELDWORKS ridden in this manner, when possible, for future starts.

RACE 7: KALBARRI AMPOL AND FOODLAND HANDICAP – 1400M

IMPAIRE (A. Ng) jumped awkwardly. DOBS (D. Dicks) stumbled on jumping. BACKBURNER (A. Armes) pulled hard in the early and middle stages. IMPAIRE was held up on straightening until passing the 200m and near the 100m was impeded momentarily when DASHING WARRIOR (D. Tourneur) shifted inwards.
