RACE 1: THE GILT PATTEN – 2400M

ALPINE TROOPER (P. Carbery) stumbled on jumping. HEREDITARY (S. McGruddy) commenced awkwardly. Shortly after the start INDIGO KING (N. Chapman) shifted outwards bumping WATERS RISING (Stephen Miller). CASH TREASURE (K. Forrester) had a tendency to over race in the early and middle stages. Jockey S. McGruddy reported that HEREDITARY, which lay outwards at the 600m, had raced greenly throughout. At the turn into the straight ALPINE TROOPER lay inwards causing POLVERYZE (W. Hughes) to steady and shift inwards crowding LANAARA’S SON (P. King). INDIGO KING had a tendency to lay inwards in the straight. Over the concluding stages INDIGO KING and WATERS RISING bumped. HEREDITARY and ALPINE TROOPER brushed on several occasions over the final 50m. Trainer Mr R. McPherson advised that CASH TREASURE would now be sent for a spell.

RACE 2: THE VENETIAN PRINCESS – 1600M

KAZZ (T. Ikenushi) was unruly in the preliminary and was reluctant to proceed to the barrier. Trainer Mr M. Herbert was advised to rectify the mare’s behaviour or action would be taken against it. JET FLAME (J. Whiting) brushed the rear gate when being loaded, then was fractious in the barrier suffering a minor abrasion to the near side upper stifle. JET FLAME was subsequently removed and after undergoing a Veterinary examination was passed fit to start. BELLNAMI (L. Camilleri) and JET FLAME were slow into stride. Shortly after the start KAZZ shifted outwards bumping BADMINTON (P. King). KAZZ then lay outwards causing BADMINTON to be steadied from the heels of FLINTOFF (J. Shankar) and lose ground. BELLNAMI, which was following, was steadied in consequence. FLINTOFF raced wide throughout and near the 1200m bumped KAZZ. PAKASTAR (D. Randall) pulled hard in the early and middle stages. Jockey P. King reported that BADMINTON raced uncompetitively throughout, having to be ridden vigorously from the 600m in an endeavour to maintain its position and in his opinion would benefit from the addition of blinkers to its racing gear. Trainer Mr R. Price advised that he would place blinkers on BADMINTON for future starts. Approaching the 400m SUAVE LADY (W. Arnold) shifted outwards causing BURNSIDE (D. Staeck) to ease. KAZZ lay outwards at the turn into the straight obliging FLINTOFF to race wider. SUAVE LADY was momentarily held up near the 250m. KAZZ returned having cast its off fore plate during running.

RACE 3: THE YOUNG FILIPINO – 1800M

BUSINESS BOOM (K. Forrester) commenced awkwardly. At the 1700m HIGGINS GOLD (P. Knuckey), when racing keenly, bumped IRISH DANCE (D. Staeck) and then steadied from the heels of CROWNS FOR ALL (N. Chapman). Near the 1450m BUSINESS BOOM shifted inwards tightening IRISH DANCE onto CLASSIC ALLUSION (A. Sansom) which restrained. DROICHIDIN (Danny Miller) and HIGGINS GOLD, which were following, were inconvenienced. IRISH DANCE then commenced to race fiercely. On Inquiry Jockey K. King) and SALAVAT bumped. TRUE SAINT (T. Jackman) commenced awkwardly and raced wide throughout. LAY A DOLLAR DOWN (Danny Miller) lay outwards throughout. SOLDIERS ROAD (N. Chapman) was held up approaching the 200m and at the 200m steadied from the heels of TOP QUEST (A. Sansom) getting its head in the air. Passing the 200m KIM STORM bumped the tiring COLORADO RIVER (K. Gladwin). GEISHA MELODY (J. Whiting) and KIM STORM brushed over the concluding stages.

Farrell) was slow to begin. Near the 1000m KEYARBA (J. Oliver) shifted inwards slightly bumping BIG DAM onto URASTAT (J. Whiting) which made contact with CREW LEADER (P. Harvey). CREW LEADER then shifted inwards causing NUNCIO to be tightened and bump heavily with MONSOON MASTER. MONSOON MASTER then became unbalanced cannoning into NUNCIO, causing that gelding to check. Passing the 600m WENTWORTH brushed the running rail. NUNCIO, which was following, was inconvenienced. SPIRIT OF ZAB (P. Carbery) hung inwards throughout placing its rider at a disadvantage. A post race Veterinary examination of SPIRIT OF ZAB revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr C. Wilson was advised to rectify the gelding’s racing manner. SALVESON (C. Harvey) raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages and lay outwards at the turn into the straight. DANNI’S CRYSTAL was unable to secure a clear passage in the straight. Passing the 200m CREW LEADER lay inwards and then had to be taken outwards across the heels of BIG DAM to obtain a clear run. MONSOON MASTER returned having cast its near fore plate during running.

RACE 6: THE LUCKY JIM – 1500M

HE FOR HIDEY (W. Arnold) and GOLDVIA (J. Whiting) bumped on jumping. SURNAME (P. Harvey) commenced awkwardly losing ground. For this reason SURNAME was unable to be ridden in a forward position as was consistent with previous starts. AIKO (P. Knuckey) raced ungenerously in the early stages getting its head in the air near the 1300m. HE FOR HIDEY raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Near the 1000m DANCE SUPREME (P. King), when racing greenly, shifted outwards bumping AIKO, causing GOLDVIA to race wider. SPICE MISS (A. Sansom) raced wide from the 600m. Approaching the 500m TWICE (D. Staeck) and HE FOR HIDEY bumped. SURNAME was blocked for the entire length of the straight. Approaching the 200m AIKO rolled inwards, momentarily crowding RHYTHMO (P. Farrell). At the 150m HE FOR HIDEY and GOLDVIA bumped. Shortly after this DANCE SUPREME shifted outwards quickly, tightening MEGADRAW (P. Carbery) which bumped GOLDVIA outwards onto HE FOR HIDEY. HE FOR HIDEY then shifted outwards causing FROZEN ASSETS (N. Chapman) to be restrained. Over the concluding stages GOLDEN PROSPECT (C. Harvey) shifted inwards holding TWICE tight, with that filly bumping JAUNTY LAD (J. Hustwitt). Apprentice C. Harvey was shown a film of this incident and advised to make every endeavour to straighten his mounts more quickly in future. Jockey J. Noske was questioned regarding his riding of VICTORY SIGN. Jockey Noske advised that he was instructed to ride VICTORY SIGN back in the field in an endeavour to allow it to settle. He also stated that VICTORY SIGN had not travelled comfortably and had to be ridden along to maintain contact with the field. He further stated that VICTORY SIGN was racing in restricted room near the 450m and for this reason was taken inwards across the heels of SURNAME and lost ground. He further explained that VICTORY SIGN, when making ground near the 200m, was steadied and taken outwards and then when continuing to make ground was unable to obtain a clear run over the final 150m. Trainer Miss Lane stated that VICTORY SIGN was immature and would be ridden back in the field over an increased distance at its next start. HE FOR HIDEY returned mildly lame in the near fore and the near hind and also cast its off fore plate during running. Trainer Mr C. Webster advised that HE FOR HIDEY would now be sent for a spell. Forrester) was held up from the turn into the straight until approaching the 50m. SKY ROMA (J. Hustwitt) was blocked over the final 100m and approaching the 75m was steadied and taken outwards to avoid the heels of the tiring PIENODZE. Trainer Mr D. Barker was questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of ICE WINE and stated that the gelding had raced more truly today as compared to its previous starts where it had raced greenly. Mr Barker also believed that the increase in distance had contributed to the improved performance of ICE WINE today. SURVALL returned with an abrasion to the near hind. A post race Veterinary examination of the poorly performed DIAMOND SOLITAIRE revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr R. Price was of the opinion that DIAMOND SOLITAIRE may have choked down during running and would effect a gear change for future starts.
