RACE 1: BIO-JOHN MAIDEN – 1000M

BLUEBIRD BOY (D. Oliver) was difficult to load. BOSS ALBERT (G. Smith), which was fractious in the barrier and broke threw cantering for a major part of the circuit, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Officer and declared unfit to take its place. BOSS ALBERT was withdrawn at 1.46 p.m on Veterinary advice after sustaining an injury to the near fore. Betting deductions were made in accordance with Betting Rule 19. Trainer Mr M. Nelson was advised that BOSS ALBERT would require a Veterinary Certificate of Soundness and would have to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again. CENTURIAN MISS (C. Itzstein) was slow to begin. FRENCH BEAUTY (C. Harvey) commenced awkwardly. CENTURIAN MISS lay outwards over the final 150m.

RACE 2: WALLY PETERS SPRINT – 1100M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner BOLD LEADER (J. Oliver). Passing the 800m YELMAR BOY (C. Harvey), when over racing, steadied off the heels of BLETCHLEY PRIDE (J. Hustwitt), getting its head in the air.

RACE 3: RUSSELL JOHNS MEMORIAL MAIDEN – 1200M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner TRUE ROCKET (C. Harvey). PUREIGN was fractious on entering the track dislodging its rider Apprentice W. Hughes. As Apprentice W. Hughes was unable to fulfil his riding engagments after sustaining an injury to his right leg, PUREIGN was withdrawn at 2.58 p.m. Betting deductions were made in accordance with Betting Rule 19. CHUCKA KHAN (W. White) dwelt on jumping, losing ground. CASUIST (J. Oliver) and TRUE DAWN (J. Lemon) raced keenly in the early stages, getting their heads in the air. Passing the 200m MISS MUNGRUP (C. Itzstein) shifted inwards carrying in CHUCKA KHAN. Approaching the 100m ARTIFICIAL (M. Giadresco), which was racing to the inside of CHUCKA KHAN, was carried inwards and steadied. Approaching the 50m, as MISS MUNGRUP continued to shift inwards, CHUCKA KHAN was tightened for room and bumped heavily on several occasions with SURE CAN BOY (B. Sheehy), with CHUCKA KHAN being restrained. On Inquiry Jockey C. Itzstein pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under ARR.137(a) for causing this interference and was suspended from riding in races for a period of 16 days from midnight 20 October, 2002 until midnight 6 November, 2002. Jockey N. Hopwood reported that CLASSY CORVETTE lay outwards throughout. CLASSY CORVETTE returned with a minor laceration to the off hind.

RACE 4: J & S CASTLEHOW ELECTRICAL SERVICES HANDICAP – 1100M

HOT HARMONY (J. Oliver) and ALL MY PLEASURE (C. Fox) bumped shortly after the start. SATIN SPECIAL (B. Sheehy) mis-strode approaching the 800m. Approaching the 200m ALL MY PLEASURE rolled outwards inconveniencing TRIPLE SHOT (J. Lemon), which steadied outwards to obtain clear running.

RACE 5: COUGAR HANDICAP – 1100M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner ERMINIE (G. Smith). As no other riders were available to replace the injured Apprentice W. Hughes, Apprentice M. Giadresco was given permission to ride PROTENCITY 0.5kg over his MRW of 51.0kg. RUSTI JANE (D. Oliver) and PROTENCITY bumped shortly after the start. Approaching the 750m IRISH WHISTLER (D. Skerrett) rolled inwards away from LORRADAUX (J. Hustwitt) tightening MR. JOHNSON (J. Lemon). Approaching the 200m LORRADAUX was momentarily tightened as ARCTIC NATIONS (L. Howlett) rolled inwards and MR. JOHNSON shifted outwards slightly.

RACE 6: SOUTHCOAST KIT HOMES HANDICAP – 1200M

Routine Specimens were taken from the winner HEAPS OF CLASS (D. Oliver). GUN BARREL BLUE (B. Sheehy) lay outwards throughout and hung outwards prior to straightening.

RIDING CHANGES

Race 4. Apprentice W. Hughes (injured) replaced by Apprentice C. Harvey on JOLLY JUDE.
Race 5. Apprentice W. Hughes replaced by Apprentice M. Giadresco on PROTENCITY.
Race 6. Apprentice W. Hughes replaced by Jockey G. Smith on MAESTRO’S MAGIC.
